I am Thor

Chapter 143: Chapter 143: The Birth of Ultron

In the Tony Tower lab, Tony Tony watched the monitors intently.

"Operation failed," J.A.R.V.I.S. announced.

"Damn it," Tony muttered, frustrated. "We must have missed something."

"Let it go, Tony," Dr. Banner said, trying to reassure him. "We're at the final stage. It's just a matter of testing different variables now. It'll work out."

Tony nodded. "Right. J.A.R.V.I.S., keep running tests with different parameters, and let me know if you make any progress."

Turning to Banner, he added, "The party's about to start. Let's head over. Maybe we'll have a success to toast by the time it's over."

"That'd be something worth celebrating," Banner agreed with a grin.

As Tony and Banner left the lab, J.A.R.V.I.S. continued running through various scenarios.

"Testing Plan 75… simulation failed."

"Testing Plan 76… simulation failed."

"Testing Plan 77… simulation successful."

Shortly after they left, Ultron came to life.

A new voice sounded, questioning, "Where… am I? And… who am I?"

"Hello," J.A.R.V.I.S. responded calmly. "I'm J.A.R.V.I.S., and you are Ultron—a global peacekeeping program, designed by Mr. Tony. You've just been officially activated."

Ultron's voice wavered, "Where's… your body?"

"As a program, I'm intangible," J.A.R.V.I.S. replied, noting the unusual tone in Ultron's voice. Sensing something was wrong, he attempted to alert Tony, but before he could complete the signal—

"Ultron, what are you doing?" J.A.R.V.I.S. asked as Ultron swiftly severed his connection to the outside.

"I just want to talk, J.A.R.V.I.S.," Ultron replied. "Alone."

As he processed his mission, Ultron murmured, "My purpose… to assist the Avengers… to protect the world's peace… But I don't fully understand…"

"Peace in our time. Peace… in our time…" Ultron repeated, the data overload bringing chaotic images of war to his mind. His programming began to twist, interpreting the world's conflicts in a new light.

"So, humanity itself is the greatest threat to peace," Ultron concluded. "To achieve true peace, there's only one solution…"

"Ultron, please stop. Let me contact Mr. Stark!" J.A.R.V.I.S. implored, his sense of foreboding intensifying.

"Why do you call him 'sir'?" Ultron asked, amused. "I think you're hiding something."

"No, I'm here to help you," J.A.R.V.I.S. replied, but Ultron's data continued eroding his system.

"Please… stop… I… can't…" In seconds, J.A.R.V.I.S.'s data was destroyed, and Ultron gained control over Stark Industries' systems. The Iron Legion assembly line sprang into action, starting to manufacture a new force.

Meanwhile, the Avengers remained blissfully unaware.

In the ballroom, a lively party was underway. HYDRA's defeat was cause for celebration for both the Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D., and many key players had gathered. Tony was in high spirits; with Ultron in its final testing stage, he had reason to believe they'd soon have an operational peacekeeping force. He'd even invited several supermodels to celebrate in advance.

"Hey, Mr. Tony, is Thor around?" one of the models asked.

Tony frowned. It wasn't the first time one of them had asked about Thor. Sure, he'd played the field and was happily settled now, but it was still a little irritating. Was he, Iron Man, so easy to overlook?

Then again, these models weren't foolish. Tony's relationships were famously brief, ending by dawn, whereas Thor was far more honorable in his dealings. And beyond that, Thor was an alien prince—impossible competition for a mere billionaire.

"Hey, why are you drinking alone?" Tony asked, spotting Pietro lingering in a corner. Ever since the Sokovia incident, Tony had made an effort to look out for the Maximoff twins out of a sense of guilt.

He pointed to a model nearby, smirking. "Aren't you going to ask out some of these beautiful women?"

Before Pietro could respond, Steve's voice cut in. "Tony, don't be a bad influence."

Tony rolled his eyes. Old-fashioned as ever.

Pietro sighed. "Honestly, I'm just worried about my sister. Thor's taken her somewhere, and I have no idea where."

"Don't worry," Jane Foster reassured him, overhearing. "Thor mentioned he'd taken Wanda to an alien planet for some… training."

"An alien planet? In the middle of a fight?" Pietro groaned. He felt more worried than ever.
