After a moment's thought, Saku Kamigawa made his choice. "Sure, that sounds fine."

Coming back to the couple's restaurant a month from now did sound a bit intimate, but realistically, it wasn't a big deal.

Originally, the plan was to have dinner here today; it was just postponed by a month. Nothing else changed.

Most importantly, today they'd visited as a "pretend couple," but a month from now, they'd be there as ordinary friends.

No intimate photos would be necessary, and it'd add an excuse to meet up again.

Looking at it that way, there was no reason to refuse.

"Great, then we're all set!" Ikuyo Kita beamed, delighted at his answer.

"All set," Saku replied with a small smile.

The two of them stepped back inside the restaurant to make a reservation for a month later.

"So, where should we eat tonight then?" Saku asked, curious about her new plan for the evening.

Ikuyo's suggestion was unexpected. "How about… nowhere? Let's call it a day."

"Call it a day? Why? It's barely evening!" Saku blinked, surprised.

"I'd like to save tonight's dinner for the couple's restaurant next month." Ikuyo laughed softly, adding, "Just like you wanted to save your request for later, I'd like to save tonight's dinner for later too."

With the way things had gone, she could have picked a different restaurant to continue their "date," but it didn't feel right. It would leave things feeling incomplete.

Dinner at the couple's restaurant was part of the original plan, and switching to another place would lose that significance.

By saving it for later, it felt like their date wasn't quite over yet—it was simply on hold, left for them to look forward to.

"Is that alright, Saku-senpai?"

"Sure."

Looking at her bright, expectant expression, Saku couldn't bring himself to refuse.

After walking Ikuyo to the train station, she waved and said goodbye with a smile, "Thanks for today, Saku-senpai! I had an amazing time!"

"Me too. See you soon."

He waved back, watching her until she disappeared from view, then finally turned and walked away.

After grabbing a quick dinner at a nearby restaurant, Saku headed back home.

As he mulled over the events of the day, his phone buzzed with a few new messages.

Chihaya Anon: Good evening!

Chihaya Anon: Are you and Ikuyo done with your "couple act" for the day?

Chihaya Anon: Did her classmates believe it?

Why is she asking me instead of Ikuyo? Saku wondered.

He had a sneaking suspicion about what this might mean.

Could she actually be interested in him? A little jealous, perhaps?

But, of course, that was just speculation.

Without any solid evidence, he couldn't assume she liked him. Otherwise, he'd be more of a clown than any galgame hero.

Saku Kamigawa: Yeah, we're done.

Saku Kamigawa: Her friends couldn't make it, so it was just the two of us playing around all day.

Saku Kamigawa: We took some "couple" photos to show her friends and make it believable.

…They couldn't make it?

Lying back on her sofa, Chihaya Anon immediately locked onto that detail.

Were her friends really unable to come?

Or could it be that she'd made up the story about them all along?

The more she thought about it, the more suspicious it seemed.

What were those "couple photos" even for if it was just the two of them hanging out the whole day?

If her friends weren't there, wasn't the "pretend couple" thing totally unnecessary?

Thinking about it, Chisato sat up straight and started typing quickly.

Chihaya Anon: "Couple photos"?

Chihaya Anon: What kind of photos? Just hearing that sounds pretty cozy.

Saku Kamigawa: They're "couple photos" in name only—there's nothing intimate about them.

Saku Kamigawa: We didn't even touch.

The fact that they'd spent almost the whole day without any real physical contact was probably the day's best part, in his opinion.

Of course, there'd been the occasional accidental contact while gaming, but nothing worth noting.

Chihaya Anon: No contact?

Chihaya Anon: So you two didn't even hold hands?

Reading his reply, she felt significantly better.

If they hadn't even touched, then maybe it was no big deal.

She could overlook Ikuyo's "sneaky behavior" just this once.

Saku Kamigawa: Nope.

Honest as always, Saku told the truth.

Chihaya Anon: That's actually pretty reasonable, since you were just pretending.

Chihaya Anon: Without her friends around, there was no reason to hold hands or anything.

Alright, if Ikuyo was that considerate, she could let today's little trick slide.

But she hoped Ikuyo wouldn't pull a stunt like this again anytime soon.

Saku Kamigawa: Exactly.

While they were chatting, Ikuyo, who had just gotten home, was also texting in her friend group.

Friend A: Little Ikuyo, did you spend the whole day on a date with your boyfriend?

Ikuyo Kita: Pretty much!

Friend B: So jealous—we were stuck training with the club all day.

Ikuyo Kita: Poor you! That sounds exhausting.

Friend A: So…what does this guy look like, anyway? Is he really as good-looking as you say?

Friend B: Yeah, come on! Send us a photo! We're dying of curiosity.

Ikuyo Kita: Fine, but you both have to promise not to share it.

Friend A: Promise!

Once they'd sworn to keep it private, Ikuyo sent them the picture of her and Saku holding the dolphin plushie.

To anyone who looked at that photo, they would appear to be a genuine couple.
