Chapter 6: Explanation
"You are an anomaly Axel."
An anomaly?
"Usually otherworlders arrived in a new world through realm assimilation are called Otherworlders. But your case is very peculiar."
How so?
I prompted her to explain further.
"Well, you can see a realm assimilation as a simple merge between two worlds, which will cause casualties to both worlds, but nothing like that had happened in your case."
I nodded my head in understanding. So I got summoned without any of those conditions met. An anomaly indeed.
"Any other-"
"No, I am pretty sure there is no other way to summon a human from another world." She interrupted, clearing my doubts.
"Also, the moment I touched your face, I am now able to read every single one of your thoughts, all the thoughts you ever had. So you don't need to hide your skepticism of me in your thoughts." Livia said, snapping her fingers, putting all her things inside her spatial dimension.
Or at least that's what I think that magic is called.
"I am not hiding them. I simply don't think much." Outside the window, I saw a man snatching a pouch from an elderly woman.
"Aren't you sad that you are stuck in an unknown world?" She asked me, clearly knowing me.
A guard chased after the thief in question.
"Sorry sorry, I mean, even if I know the answer, I should still make some small talk you know."
Suddenly he was restrained using some form of magic. Some yellow coloured thread like things binded him.
The thief started cursing at the three girls that stood in front of him.
"What is this mana? Lyvia."
"Mana can be anything… wait, let me get an appropriate analogy from your world."
Those children were around my age. Three girls, in some kind of uniform with blue jacket and skirt.
"Nothing huh… nothing completely resemble Mana in your world. Well electromagnetic waves come close. Waves or energy fields, yea, that's the closest thing resembling mana in the world you are from. Though there are only a few similarities."
Electromagnetic waves huh?
"Yup, just like how those waves are everywhere, mana is also everywhere in the atmosphere. The intensity of mana also changes just like those different types of waves. Not only that, mana can also interact with matter. Again, just like waves."
"But the major difference here is, We can control it."
I heard some sloshing sound. I turned around to look at her playing with a water ball.
A sphere of water, made out of thin air.
"Mana can morph anything you desire into something else."
Instantly the ball of water turned into a ball of lava.
"Its shape can be manipulated"
She turned it into a stone sphere.
"It can be extracted."
The stone sphere crumbled into trillions of dust particles, emitting a blue hue, which concentrated into a tiny sphere, less than a millimetre in diameter.
"It can be absorbed."
It entered her body through the palm of her hand.
"It can be radiated."
A blue hue surrounded her.
"It can cut anything."
She raised her hand, and imitated a motion of cutting something. Suddenly the bed was sliced into two pieces.
"It can repair anything."
The same blue hue glued the bed together. Restoring it to its original state.
"Imagination is the end of mana. Anything that can be imagined with detailed precision, can be produced if you have enough mana."
The blue Aura she emitted increased in intensity, causing the wind to swirl around her.
Suddenly it vanished. She had a gun in her hand. A whole pistol manifested in her hand.
Swiftly she shot at me. My body felt like it was wrapped in some unknown force.
The bullet stopped right in front of my eyes.
"Anything can be stopped." The bullet crumbled, so did the gun.
"Mana is the fundamental rule of this world. Fundamental element of nature. It is the string in your string theory.
Nobody knows why and how. Just like how the concept of dark matter puzzles the scientists in your world, mana puzzles us.
But most of us innately know how to manipulate it, how to conquer it,... To a certain extent."
Axel saw everything in astonishment. Truly magical... A world full of mysteries. His curious side kicked in. But he suppressed his urges. He needed to ensure his survival first.
"Tell me more about the otherworlders." He asked, wanting to know more about his situation.
"Hmm… as you might have guessed , they receive sort of an ability from god knows where. Mostly, the skills are low levels waiting for development. In fact, from the books I've heard, it seems the powers they receive are over powered for this world."
Axel picked the dust particles with his index finger and examined them.
"So... The fact that I can understand your language is one of them?" He asked.
Lyvia hummed, bobbing her head up and down.
"Exactly. Three things are always guaranteed when a realm assimilation happened. Otherworlders gain the ability to understand any language in this world. You must have seen an empty void when you arrived right?" Livia asked curiously.
Axel nodded his head.
"That's the sign that you have successfully being given a unique Ability of your own."
Axel remember the ability he selected before coming to this world. So according to Livia, he wasn't exactly a unique existence. There are other people with system and different abilities. For some unknown reason he was a bit excited. It was the same sensation when he fought the Minotaur.
He couldn't explain it. It was something new.
"So what are you going to do now?" Livia asked.
"I can't ask for your help, can I?" Axel asked, knowing the reply.
"Yup. I have all your memories. It might take a while to completely look into them, but whatever knowledge you have, it's mine. You can't offer me anything from your world to gain my favours."
Once again Axel sighed. He didn't even have the right to be angry, nor was he in the first place. At least, Lyvia wasn't hostile, but he still needs to find what her end goal is.
"Not all people are as powerful as you are they." Axel, even though he questioned, he made it sound like statement.
"Who knows." Lyvia giggled, without answering.
He looked straight into her eyes, hoping to discern any lies she might say.
"*Chuckles* You are very gifted Axel. Well consider me as an exception. I won't interfere with your life more than you let me. I won't use your other worldly knowledge to earn money or anything for that matter. I don't care about those. But in exchange, I will closely watch you. You asked me what I want right? I want entertainment." She closed her book,
standing up to face Axel.
"And I believe monitoring you will be entertaining." She locked eyes with him.
"W-"
Why me, Axel wanted to ask, but she placed a finger on his lips.
"Listen well, wonderboy." She whispered.
"I will give you a starting point. I will take you to a place where you can get your identity. From there on, you are on your own. You can stay in this hotel for a week for free, I won't pay any more than that. Deal?"
Axel didn't reply. He knew she held secrets, and this absurd amount of power she held was unknown to anyone. But at the same time he can't use that as a leverage.
She was able to peek into his innermost memories, how long will it take for her to wipe them out?
"Good choice. And from today on, we are friends, no I will be your bigger sister." She smiled brightly hugging the shit out of Axel.
She was taller than him. That made his face sandwich between her blossoms.
He couldn't retaliate, her hug felt like a bear hugging. Well it was comfy enough. A bigger sister huh? He liked the sound of it.
Weirdly enough, Axel liked her a little. It feels like she purely does what she wants and loves.
She doesn't think about the consequences of her words and actions. She was completely free. A free bird soaring through the vast sky. The freest bird he had ever encountered. The opposite of him.
No, rather than saying he likes her, it was correct to say he liked this world.
This freedom she is experiencing was possible only in this world, where the power you can attain seems incalculable. This world has simpler rules.
"A bigger sister who doesn't want to help his brother." He commented, earning laughter from Lyvia.
"Fine, I will help you awaken your ability. Even though watching struggle would be fun, it wouldn't be that enjoyable if you only played with normal people."
