I Was Sold to My Mortal Enemy (Double Transmigrations)

Chapter 33

Six years ago, the original owner had been practicing martial arts in the mountains behind the temple when a sudden thunderstorm struck, rendering him unconscious.

When he awoke, he found himself in the body of the original owner, gaining access to all of the previous owner’s memories as he passed through.

These memories were incredibly vivid, recounting every moment of the original owner’s life from the age of three onward. This included the feelings he harbored for both Xie Yu and Pei Zhengchen.

“You were always with me when I was a child,” Pei Zhengchen recalled, “I taught you martial arts step by step, so I couldn’t make a mistake.”

Pei Zhengchen had immediately recognized him upon seeing him yesterday and engaged in combat as a test of his retained martial skills.

Three years ago, Xie Yu had sent a letter confirming that he was still alive. Tears welled up in his eyes, and he spent the whole night in excitement.

As time passed, his emotions subsided, and he realized that his younger brother did not wish to acknowledge him. Understanding that there was resentment, he refrained from pressing the matter further and instructed Xiao Yu to take good care of him.

While others labeled his second brother as foolish, only he knew that his brother was a unique prodigy, born with extraordinary abilities, a body of steel, and photographic memory. His younger brother could learn complex martial arts and inner skills with just one glance.

“It was my fault that I couldn’t locate you in time,” Pei Zhengchen admitted, “You have every right to feel resentful. But don’t worry this time. Since you’ve worshipped with him, he is a member of our Pei family. Our Pei family members are not the one who suffer humiliation in vain.”

Pei Zhengchen regarded the taller Pei Xing with pride.

Twelve years ago, the Pei family had been falsely accused of rebellion, leading to the execution of the entire family. In order to preserve the Pei family’s bloodline, his father’s loyal followers had fled from the imperial city with them, but eventually succumbed to their injuries during their escape.

Pei Xing had been seriously wounded, with soldiers hot on their trail. To facilitate Pei Xing’s getaway, his “foolish” second brother had diverted the pursuers while he fell into the Zibo River.

Later, because of his mother’s manipulation, the Pei family was rehabilitated and he was saved then taken into the palace.

During this period, his mother grieved every night, believing that his “foolish” second brother was dead, and felt responsible.

His mother had been in love with His Majesty since childhood. The two had a deep love for each other but his mother married his father by accident.

One year after his father died in the war, his mother was taken to the palace and elevated to the position of imperial concubine in the palace.

At the time, Pei Xing was just over a year old and had also been taken to the palace, where His Majesty acknowledged him as his godson. Two years later, Xiao Yu was born by his mother.

.

Pei Xing understood what was on his mind, and that the original owner had indeed harbored resentment, as Pei Zhengchen said.

The original owner remembered the way back but did not immediately return because his eldest brother had not visited him. This had upset the original owner, who chose to live at Xiangshan Temple and study martial arts under the guidance of the teacher who saved him.

Pei Zhengchen recounted various details of his life and then inquired about when and how he had returned to normal.

Pei Xing gazed at him and replied without emotion, “Six years ago, I was struck by lightning.”

Pei Zhengchen: “…”

If he had known that being struck by lightning could lead to a return to normal, he would have opted for that during his childhood. A small attempt wouldn’t have rendered his stupid brother as “foolish” for so many years.

Xie Yu burst into laughter but received two icy glares. He quickly suppressed his laughter and suggested, “How about you chat first while I go see Qin Yue?”

The other two continued to ignore him, and after Pei Zhengchen inquired about his experiences over the years, he suddenly broached another topic.

“I can’t stay here for long. In about five days, I’ll be returning to Xizhou. Would you like to come with me?”

Pei Xing did not respond immediately, understanding the implications of the invitation. He pondered what he wanted to do.

Pei Zhengchen patted Pei Xing’s shoulder and commended him, saying, “You possess extraordinary powers and better martial arts skills than I do. It would be a shame not to join the army. Besides, you can bring your young wife along.”

Pei Xing replied, “I haven’t informed him about all of this yet.”

He had no desire to become entangled in the conflicts of the Dayu Dynasty. Meeting Shi Yi was a stroke of good luck in this life, and he only desired to find a peaceful corner to live with him.

Pei Zhengchen recognized his reluctance and didn’t push the matter, saying, “There’s no rush. I’ll return to the capital after the Chinese New Year, and then we can go back to recognize your wife into Pei family’s genealogy.”

He had come on a secret mission and couldn’t stay for an extended period. Xizhou had just settled down, and there was a need for individuals to maintain order.

.

That evening after dinner, Pei Xing recounted the life story of his original self to Shi Yi.

Sitting in Pei Xing’s arms, Shi Yi gazed at him with a curious expression, a small smile playing on his lips. He commented, “With your face, I can’t even imagine what you would look like when you were foolish. Did you have a crooked mouth and stupid eyes?” He burst into laughter.

Pei Xing’s face darkened, and he pinched Shi Yi’s waist, saying, “That’s nonsense.”

Shi Yi let out a soft sigh and rubbed his aching waist. Suddenly, he remembered something and slapped his head, saying, “I forgot about my brother, I mean, my brother is only fourteen and also joined the army in Xizhou. Do you think I can ask your eldest brother to deliver a letter or something?”

“Why are you bringing this up now?” Pei Xing asked, touching the still-bruised area on his chin.

“I forgot amidst all the recent chaos,” Shi Yi admitted with remorse.

In his heart, he sympathized with the original owner and thought of Xiao Liu. Fortunately, Aunt Hong had taken him to Zhongzhou, or he might have suffered the same fate this time.

“I also have an older brother who sold himself three years ago to afford medicine. When I returned, I asked the village chief of He Village, and he said that someone from the Bai family in the south had purchased him.”

“When this matter is resolved, I’ll take you to Nanzhou to look for him,” Pei Xing promised. He recognized the Bai family in the south but knew that they couldn’t leave the area at the moment.

.

Their respite was short-lived as Prince Chengyang personally led soldiers to Huanyue Tower and surrounded it.

The Prince of Chengyang County had a fragile lineage, with only one daughter, Liu Ling, for most of his life. She was his sole heir, and with her seriously injured and in peril, he was driven by a burning desire for vengeance against the wrongdoer.

A group of soldiers quickly advanced toward Bihaiyuan. Hearing the commotion, Pei Xing and Shi Yi swiftly emerged from their room to investigate.

As they stepped out, a cold, menacing blade was thrust at them.

Reacting swiftly, Pei Xing seized Shi Yi around the waist, evaded the attack by ducking to the side, and simultaneously used his foot to send the assailant tumbling ten feet away.

After a moment, Pei Xing, Shi Yi, Xie Yu, and Qin Yue stood in the courtyard.

Shi Yi regarded Xie Yu and Qin Yue with a curious expression, wondering why they were present and where Zhou Yan and Song Ning had gone.

Little did he know that Xie Yu found his curious look rather cute and raised an eyebrow in response. In his eyes, his “silly second brother” possessed good eyesight and, at the very least, the wife’s appearance was first class.
