Chapter 39
Two days later, Pei Xing and Shi Yi departed for Nanzhou with a greeting card written by Mr. Lu. As they were about to leave, Mr. Lu and the two elderly members of the Lu family came to bid them farewell with great enthusiasm. Mr. Lu, in particular, was excited, continually praising Pei Xing as a genius and presenting a jade pendant to Shi Yi.
Shi Yi found their behavior somewhat peculiar. He asked Pei Xing what had transpired during their conversation on the way, and Pei Xing’s solemn expression raised concerns.
“What’s wrong? Is something amiss?” Shi Yi in Pei Xing’s arms, worried about his grave countenance.
“It’s nothing,” Pei Xing said, touching Shi Yi’s face. “We might have to face another battle.”
Shi Yi was taken aback. “Weren’t we always fighting? And my fourth brother is also engaged in a battle far away in Xizhou.” The thought of Pei Xing enlisting in the army made him anxious.
He remembered the peculiar attitude of the Lu family, and as he connected the dots, he began to suspect that Pei Xing might have made some promises to them.
“Did you make a promise to the Lu family?” Shi Yi asked anxiously, grabbing his collar. “If you have to go, then I’ll go with you. You can’t leave me behind.”
Pei Xing hadn’t expected Shi Yi to react this way. He was deeply moved and kissed Shi Yi passionately.
“I’m not going anywhere. I will stay with you forever.”
Shi Yi, who had been worried, finally found some solace in Pei Xing’s words. He accepted the passionate kiss with confidence.
Only when they both gasped for air did Pei Xing speak. “I won’t break my promise.”
Shi Yi was relieved, and his eyes were moist as he said, “You’d better keep your word.”
Pei Xing held him tightly and assured him, “I will stay with you for the rest of my life.”
Their closeness had ignited their passion. They kissed deeply and fervently, their hearts burning with love.
It was only when they were both breathless that Pei Xing gently placed Shi Yi on the small bed. The setting sun bathed the room in a warm glow, creating a beautiful atmosphere.
.
Their journey from Zhongzhou to Nanzhou would take about five to six days by boat. This time, they had chosen a larger passenger cabin that offered the luxury of hot water. Pei Xing bought several taels of hot water, which could be used for bathing and other purposes, and he made arrangements for daily replenishment.
The next morning, Pei Xing and Shi Yi took a luxurious hot bath, indulging in the warm water. Afterward, they had a simple meal of dry provisions.
Shi Yi wore a red shirt, barefoot, with silver bells adorning his left ankle. The red thread paired with his fair; jade-like skin was a striking contrast. The tinkling of the bells as he moved his feet made it impossible to resist being captivated. Pei Xing reached out to caress Shi Yi’s ankle, gently kissing his flushed face and softly laughing.
“It looks lovely on you. You should wear it all the time.”
Shi Yi blushed at the thought of yesterday’s passionate encounter, and even now, his ears were still ringing with the sound of the bells. Muttering under his breath, he couldn’t help but say, “You truly are an old pervert.”
Pei Xing’s gaze remained gentle as he held the slender, soft waist of the person in his arms and caressed it.
Shi Yi’s body was indeed much softer than in his previous life, and their relationship felt more harmonious now. In their previous life, Shi Yi had suffered due to his disability. Their first time was too tragic, because Pei Xing didn’t have any experience, he asked for it endlessly, which ended up hurting Shi Yi and the man even fainted from the pain. It took him half a month to recover.
In this life, their physical circumstances had changed, making Shi Yi more sensitive and appreciative of their intimacy, which brought him joy and gratitude.
Shi Yi’s waist felt sore as Pei Xing continued to rub it, and he scolded with mild annoyance, slapping Pei Xing’s hand. “Stop touching it. Remove your hand.”
However, Pei Xing held him closer and replied warmly, “I’ll massage it for you, and it’ll feel better. Just relax, don’t move.” Shi Yi sighed but acquiesced, lying in Pei Xing’s embrace.
.
After five days of travel by boat, they finally reached Nanzhou. The climate in Nanzhou was noticeably hotter than in Zhongzhou, prompting them to change into lighter clothing.
Shi Yi wore a thin red wide-sleeved shirt with his hair braided and tied behind his head. His attire, combined with his remarkable appearance, drew attention. The tinkling sound of the bells attached to his left ankle only added to his charm. Passersby couldn’t help but cast curious glances at the shuanger, but the presence of Pei Xing deterred them from getting too close.
Ignoring the appraising glances from onlookers, Pei Xing held Shi Yi protectively and led him to the Bai Mansion. They presented Mr. Lu’s greeting card and were soon escorted to the hall.
After a while, however, no one came to greet them. Shi Yi grew impatient, fearing something might have happened to Shi Mo. He was about to go look for someone when Pei Xing restrained him, indicating he should wait calmly.
They waited for nearly half an hour before an elegantly dressed and cheerful woman approached. Although she smiled, her words were somewhat insincere.
“I’ve been so busy in the backyard that I’m utterly exhausted. Initially, I couldn’t fathom why someone claiming to be a relative of the young child who was sold to us three years ago, came to visit. I thought you might be a swindler. However, upon reading Mr. Lu’s greeting card, I realized you’re a student of Mr. Lu. How uncouth of me. You and Jingxiao are family, and I shouldn’t have kept you waiting.”
“It’s no trouble; we just took a break after the journey,” Pei Xing replied, glancing at Shi Yi. “The primary reason for our visit is to meet the eldest brother on behalf of my wife. We kindly ask madam to have Shi Mo join us for a meeting.”
The woman cast a fleeting look of disgust at Shi Yi and then replied with a smile, “What a coincidence, you’re late. Just a few days ago, Jingxiao took the shuanger to the north for a business trip. It may take ten to fifteen days before they return.”
