Chapter 41: Glory of a Warrior
Chapter 41: Glory of a Warrior
"By the way, I'm a human named Brogy! What's your name?" Brogy's voice boomed in Rodney's ear like a drum.
"You can call me Rodney. How are you?" Rodney replied.
"Hey Gabababa, humans, are you and your crew here to store magnetism on this island?" Brogy asked.
Brogy, one of the captains of the Giant Warrior Pirates a hundred years ago, was known as the "Red Ogre." He was close friends with Dorry, the Blue Ogre. However, they had an argument over a trivial matter of who could hunt larger prey. They decided to settle it with a duel, which turned into a century-long battle, each ending in a draw.
Fighting for a hundred years over such a small matter was quite wasteful, considering the giants' lifespan is three times that of humans. A hundred years was merely one-third of their lives. Nevertheless, their friendship remained strong despite their continuous attempts to defeat each other and seek glory.
Rodney shook his head and said, "I came here to hunt and brought the Eternal Pose."
"Well, you're in luck. If it were a Log Pose, you would have to spend a year here to fully charge its magnetic power," Broki remarked.
The Little Garden was a harsh place. If someone used a Log Pose to land on the island, it would take a year to charge the magnetic power completely. Although it posed no threat to Rodney, it was a nightmare for pirates lacking strength.
The volcano erupted regularly, like three meals a day. Top predators like Tyrannosaurus rex roamed the island, and the intense heat could be unbearable. The average person would not survive here for more than a year.
Furthermore, Brogy and Dorry used the volcano's eruptions as signals to engage in several daily battles. If an unlucky person got caught in their fights, they would easily meet their demise.
"That's..."
Rodney suddenly noticed another giant sitting near where he had landed. The giant held a wine barrel, as tall as half a person, like a wine glass in the hands of an ordinary individual, and he drank it down in one gulp, finishing a barrel of wine.
Upon seeing the giant, Brogy exclaimed, "Dorry?"
"Brogy? Gyagagaga, are you here to drink as well?" The bearded giant was none other than Dorry, the opponent with whom Brogy had been fighting for a hundred years.
They generally fought only when the volcano erupted and did not engage in combat at other times.
"That's right, I was invited by Rodney! I heard there's good wine here!" Brogy greeted Dorry with a wave.
"Gyagaga, let's drink together. Alcohol is only enjoyable when shared with friends," Dorry laughed and finished another barrel of wine.
Crocus, who had encountered Dorry while collecting firewood, smiled and said, "I met Dorry and thought since he's a member of the Giant Warrior Pirates, I should invite him over."
Crocus was relatively old and knew about the Giant Warrior Pirates, even though the crew had disappeared by the time he entered the sea.
Brogy sat down and began dismembering the brontosaurus leader. He rolled a tree trunk to the fire and turned it into a skewer for roasting the meat. He skewered the pieces of meat and placed them on the makeshift grill.
Taking the wine barrel handed to him by Dorry, Brogy removed the lid and drank it in one gulp.
"Let our mind be at ease, the long-awaited spirit!" Brogy exclaimed with a hearty laugh.
Sitting and chatting with Dorry, Broki expressed, "It's been a long time since I drank with friends."
"Cheers!"
Crocus and Rodney raised their wine glasses. They were not giants, so drinking from the barrel would be too troublesome.
The brontosaurus meat soon finished roasting, and they enjoyed their hearty meal and heavy drinking. Dorry asked Crocus, "You mentioned you knew about the Giant Warrior Pirates. How are my partners doing now?"
"They disbanded," Kulocas replied.
"Disbanded? That's impossible! Even if we left, Jorul and Jarul would continue sailing with the pirate group," Dorry said.
"They were disbanded when I first entered the sea decades ago. I heard it from another giant," Crocus explained.
"How could this happen? Jarul and the others should have survived," the Giant Warrior Pirates had four captains in total: Brogy, Dorry, Jarul, and Jorul.
Brogy and Dorry fought on this island for a hundred years due to their bet, but even if they had left, they believed the other two captains would continue the pirate group.
Crocus continued, "Many years ago, the Giant Warrior Pirates were captured alive by the Marines after losing two powerful captains. They were saved from execution by the nun Carmel. Since then, the Giant Warriro Pirates disappeared from the sea, and sightings of giants became rare."
"What?! I never expected that..." Brogy slapped his head and blamed himself.
Dorry said thankfully, "Fortunately, there was that nun."
At this moment, Rodney spoke up, "It's better not to thank that woman."
Dorry and Brogy looked at Rodney, while Crocus was surprised and asked, "Did you encounter her again?"
"Yes, it was all part of a conspiracy," Rodney explained. "It was a scheme between Carmel and the Marines to bring Carmel to Elbaf and eliminate the animosity between Elbaf and the Marines. This allowed the Marines to gain access to giant weapons."
That was the collaboration between Carmel and the Marines.
"What? Is that true?" Crocus was unaware of this secret and was greatly surprised.
"Despicable Marines!"
"How dare they deceive our people!"
They were more inclined to trust their friend than a nun they had never met.
Rodney turned to Crocus and asked, "Have you heard of someone named 'Mountain Witch' in the underground world?"
"You mean Holy Mother?" Crocus pondered for a moment and replied, "I heard she's involved in human trafficking."
"Yes, she is known as the 'Holy Mother' in Elbaf, but in reality, she is a human trafficker. The children she adopted were sold to the CP, and she even adopted BIG MOM, one of the Four Emperors." Rodney didn't mention the fact that Carmel was a Soul Soul Fruit user since revealing too much could be problematic.
That's enough; what's the harm in a few spoilers?
Spoilers are cool for a while and always leave you wanting more!
Besides, there are no pirate hunters around here.
"BIG MOM? That monster," Crocus recalled encountering a woman from the Rocks Pirates, who was considered formidable among the monster-filled crew when they teamed up with Garp. Now she was one of the Four Emperors, on the same level as Shanks.
"Did she abduct and sell children from our Giant Clan?"
"Not exactly, but the Marines now has a giant army, and several lotteries have been won,"
Rodney revealed.
(TL/N: "Several lotteries have been won" means that the Marines has managed to recruit several giants to join their forces through the selection process of a lottery system.)
Suddenly, Dorry stood up and declared, "Let's keep fighting, Brogy!"
Brogy also rose to his feet, saying, "Yes, that's right. Let's keep fighting. Only the living can return. I want to revive the Giant Warrior Pirates!"
"Let's do it!"
After their declarations, the two engaged in a fierce battle with their swords and axes. The storm created by their clash was so intense that it blinded onlookers. Kulocas stood firmly, protecting his wine from the wind.
With his back against the storm, Rodney's feet seemed glued to the ground.
"Goodness, why did they start fighting over a disagreement?"
Rodney couldn't even turn his head. Were these giants? It was truly terrifying to witness such energy erupting from the aftermath of their battle alone.
But BIG MOM was even more fearsome. When she was just five years old, she nearly killed Jorul, the captain of the Giant Warrior Pirates. She possessed a monstrous physique.
"This is what giants are like, but monsters abound in the sea. Rodney, you still have a long way to go!" Crocus calmly savored his wine as he spoke.
"I don't care if they fight or not. No matter how long they fight, it will always end in a draw. Unless there's outside interference or they slip up and cause an accident. Their lives will continue this way. It feels like they're wasting their lives," Rodney expressed.
The strength of Brogy and Dorry was genuine. Even the textures of their clothes and weapons were similar, leaving no room for accidents. Unless someone intervenes or they accidentally cause a mishap, resulting in the other's demise.
"That's how giants are. They fight for glory. The reason they started fighting doesn't matter," Crocus added.
"Yes, it doesn't matter. They'll fight to the death for it! For the glory of warriors!"
