I Will Become Hokage in One Piece

Chapter 42: Hakoku

Chapter 42: Hakoku

The battle between Brogy and Dorry concluded, once again ending in a draw. Lying on the ground, they gazed at the expansive starry sky. Dorry asked, "Brogy, how much longer do you think we'll keep fighting?"

"A hundred years? After all these years, we always end up like this. The future will be no different. Kababa, Dorry, you truly are my best friend!"

"Gyagaga, of course!"

The two giants lay on the ground, engaging in conversation. Meanwhile, Rodney and Crocus dragged a Tyrannosaurus rex,Triceratops and Ankylosaurus to the shore to provide Laboon with dinner.

Dorry shifted his gaze towards them and suddenly proposed, "Brogy, what if..."

Being lifelong friends, Broki could discern Dorry's thoughts just by looking at him. "Well, let's do it like this, Brother Rodney."

Rodney turned around and asked, "Is there something I can help you with?"

"We have a favor to ask of you."

"What is it? Please tell me."

"We'd like you to help us go to Elbaf and check on things. If it's possible, it would put our minds at ease."

"If I happen to pass by one day, I will." Rodney didn't make a firm commitment to go to Elbaf, but he agreed in principle.

"In that case, please accept our gratitude. As a token of appreciation, we'll give you a gift." Brogy stated.

"Uh, your gifts might be too big for me, so let's forget about it."

Dorry smiled and clarified, "No, it's not a physical object. Currently, we don't have any valuable items to offer. Instead, we can provide you with Eternal Pose to Elbaf. However, we can teach you the combat skills associated with them."

"The giant's fighting skills? Could it be..."

"I'm not sure if you'll be able to learn the technique we giants call it Giant Combat. After all, no one outside the giant race has ever mastered it." Brogy and Dorry stood up and proclaimed, "The giant's technique, Hakoku!"

(TL/N: Meaning Warrior Nation)

(By default, Big Mom's Spear of Elbaf is a giant's skill)

"Hakoku?" Rodney's eyes brightened.

Big Mom's ability was tremendously destructive, although it was likely specific to the Rocks Pirates. Giants regarded her as an enemy, so it was improbable for non-Rocks pirates to learn it.

"The key question is, can I learn it by myself?" Rodney inquired. The physical disparity between giants and humans was significant. Mastering Hakoku was no easy task, and even among giants, not everyone could accomplish it.

"Perhaps." Dorry stood up and announced, "I'll modify Hakoku to make it easier for you to learn. Then, when you eventually go to Elbaf, you can relearn it."

"I understand. Please teach me, masters."

"Let's go, let's go! Look here, Rodney! First, I'll demonstrate the complete version of Hakoku!" Brogy stood up and brandished the axe in his hand.

He declared, "The most crucial aspect is the weapon you wield. Using only your body for this technique will strain you considerably. It demands excellent weapons. Our weapons have been used in battle for a hundred years. After executing this move, they're likely to break."

He raised the axe and brought it down forcefully towards the empty sea.

"Hakoku!"

The axe unleashed a colossal spiral shockwave, compressing its mighty force into a sharp spear that appeared capable of piercing through anything. It created a large cavity in the sea until the force dissipated and the hole was swallowed by the water.

Click!

This strike also shattered the aged weapon in his hand, signifying the end of its lifespan.

Rodney's Sharingan recorded Brogy's action in his mind, and he used task points to obtain a standard fixed blade from the Kumogakure marketplace.

Imitating Brogy's action, he gathered a substantial amount of chakra on his arms and the blade.

"Hakoku!"

Boom!

The spiral blade energy compressed into a spear but dissipated in the air before traveling far.

'Hmm?'

"Not bad, actually quite good! Your talent for learning is remarkable! You're an excellent fighter!" Dorry exclaimed upon witnessing this.

Even after studying Hakoku for a long time, they couldn't produce such sword energy when they first used the technique.

Brogy chimed in, "Absolutely! You're a natural-born fighter! With time, you'll undoubtedly master it!"

Dorry added, "Brogy just performed the full version of Hakoku. Now I'll teach you the simplified version. Although it may seem unnecessary, it will assist you in mastering the technique."

He stood up and swung the large sword in his hand.

"Hakoku!"

This strike was considerably weaker than the one Brogy used earlier, but its power was not to be underestimated. The weapon in his hand also displayed cracks, indicating that repeated use of this attack would eventually break it.

Using Hakoku puts significant strain on even giant weapons. This is one of the reasons why they rarely employ this technique.

Dorry and Brogy proceeded to teach Rodney the nuances of Hakoku, enlightening him about various aspects he hadn't previously understood.

When using the simplified version, the success rate increased substantially, and the destructive power remained impressive. The attack range extended up to 40 meters in front of him.

As for executing the genuine Hakoku... that may be beyond his capability.

"Hakoku!"

The spiral blade energy pierced through a large tree in front of him, displaying its tremendous power.

Click!

Cracks appeared on the straight blade in his hand, and it subsequently shattered, leaving only the handle.

The immense power of Hakoku significantly shortened the lifespan of weapons. To use a blade, Rodney would need to learn the concept of Haki. Until then, he would have to either frequently change weapons or find a high-quality one.

"Oh, if only I had taken the Sandai Kitetsu from Loguetown. Then I wouldn't be left weaponless." Shaking his head, he suddenly remembered that Ryuma, the Sword God of Wano Country, had his body dug up by Moria, revealing a large, sharp sword in his possession.

He recalled that the sword had excellent quality.

With this in mind, he said to Crocus, who was beside him, "Old man, I have a favor to ask of you."

"Oh? What is it?" Crocus, who was tending to Brogy and Dorry's wounds, turned around and inquired.

"I noticed that Moria had a remarkable sword in the hands of his zombies. I'd like you to ask your friend to bring it to Sabaody Archipelago, where I'll collect it."

"Oh? You're interested in that sword? Alright, I'll inform the deputy captain. When the time comes, you can retrieve it from him as a token of gratitude for finding a friend for Laboon." Crocus hadn't initially planned a specific gift for Rodney, but now he had found one.

However, he would assess the quality of the sword first. If it didn't meet his expectations, he would prepare an alternative gift.

"Well, I apologize for the trouble, old man."

Crocus waved his hand and resumed his duties.

Brogy and Dorry had been enduring both old and new injuries daily. Their physical wounds were extensive, a testament to the strength of giants. Without their exceptional physical resilience, most people would have perished long ago.

"It's best not to engage in combat for a few days. It wouldn't be beneficial to your health. Listen to the doctor!" Crocus advised.

Brogy laughed, saying, "Come on, that won't do, doctor. Our battles happen every day, and as long as the volcano erupts in the middle, it signifies the start of our fight."

"You should take a day to rest, for the sake of your health."

"Haha, doctor, that wouldn't be us."

The responses from the two giants left Crocus feeling helpless. It was similar to when crew members aboard the ship were forbidden from drinking, but they desired it nonetheless.

No matter how much he tried to deter them, he couldn't prevent it.

"Forget it, no fighting tonight."

Crocus waved his hand, jumped off Dorry's shoulder, and decided to rest.

Elderly individuals shouldn't stay awake all night; it's not beneficial for their health.

"It's time for us to rest as well." Brogy and Dorry lay down on the spot and drifted off to sleep.

Boom boom boom!

Their snoring resembled thunder, resonating loudly.

The noise was too disruptive for Rodney to sleep, so he decided to forgo sleep altogether. Finding a spot, he used his Shadow Clone technique to continue learning Hakoku and the Rokushiki. As for resting?

That could wait until tomorrow; after all, he had a restful night's sleep ahead of him.
