Chapter 1292: Accumula Town
Seeing the heavily injured Escavalier, the two Pidovelet out startled cries before flying over, their faces full of worry as they examined Escavalier's injuries.
At that moment, Escavalier slowly opened its eyes. Upon seeing a human standing in front of it, it immediately became defensive and tried to stand up. However, its severe injuries caused it to collapse back down.
Yuga released Chimecho and said to the Pidove, "Don't worry. With me here, Escavalier will be fine."
As he spoke, Yuga activated his special ability and, together with Chimecho's Heal Pulse, began treating Escavalier.
Initially, Escavalier was extremely resistant to Yuga's touch. But as it felt its injuries rapidly healing, it quickly quieted down.
Leavanny was still waiting for it to rescue her, so it needed to recover as quickly as possible.
Under the combined effects of Yuga's special ability and Chimecho's Heal Pulse, Escavalier's injuries soon became no longer life-threatening. Sincerely, it expressed its gratitude to both Yuga and Chimecho.
At first, Escavalier had assumed that Yuga was in cahoots with the human who had injured it and taken Leavanny away. But now, it was clear that wasn't the case.
Once Yuga saw that Escavalier was out of danger, he asked, "What happened here? How did you get hurt?" Although he asked, Yuga already had a rough idea of the answer in his mind.
Escavalier then began to explain the reason for its injuries.
After Leavanny had brought back the injured squad leader, she carefully tended to him every day.
Although Leavanny didn't know any healing moves, she was highly skilled in the use of medicinal herbs, adept at using them to treat wounds and detoxify poisons. Thanks to her care, the squad leader quickly regained his mobility.
Leavanny, being naturally kind and pure-hearted, had no concept of the dangers of human malice. She never expected that the squad leader would covet her skills in herbal medicine and develop the intent to abduct her.
Pokémon with healing abilities are incredibly rare and often play a crucial role for Trainers, even saving lives in critical moments.
If the squad leader had had a healing Pokémon by his side during his confrontation with the League, he wouldn't have been left behind in the forest by Granbull.
Although Leavanny didn't know healing moves, her proficiency in herbal medicine was nearly as effective as healing abilities.
The squad leader thought that having Leavanny by his side would significantly reduce the risks he faced during future missions.
However, Leavanny enjoyed her current life and didn't want to go with the squad leader, leaving him with no choice but to resort to force.
The Pokémon that had been injured by the League and were under the squad leader's care had nearly all recovered thanks to Leavanny's treatment. Leavanny never imagined that she would be repaid with such betrayal.
When Escavalier returned after going out to forage and saw Leavanny being captured in a Poké Ball, it was immediately enraged and charged at the squad leader, ready to fight to the death.
But Escavalier's strength was no match for the squad leader's, and not only did it fail to rescue Leavanny, but it was also severely injured by the opponent's Pokémon.
After hearing Escavalier's story, Yuga couldn't help but sigh. It was a classic tale of "The Farmer and the Snake."
"Do you know which direction that person ran off in? I can help you rescue Leavanny," Yuga asked.
Hearing this, Escavalier glanced at the Chimecho by Yuga's side. Its intuition told it that this Chimecho was very powerful, and it immediately came up with a plan.
It knew that even if it chased after the person, it wouldn't be able to defeat them. But with the help of this human, things might turn out differently.
Escavalier immediately offered to lead Yuga to the culprit. When it came to familiarity with this forest, it claimed to be the best, with no other Pokémon daring to call themselves second.
Yuga was pleased to hear this and promised to help Escavalier retrieve Leavanny.
As a token of gratitude to the two Pidove for their assistance, Yuga took out several berries and gave them to the Pidove, then sent them home.
After bidding farewell to the Pidove, Yuga released his Absol, mounted it, and followed Escavalier's lead in pursuit of the culprit.
The squad leader, whose injuries hadn't completely healed, wasn't moving very fast. If not for his urgency to report back to his superiors about the mission, he might have stayed in the forest to recover for a few more days.
The squad leader was riding a Zebstrika, but one of its legs was crippled. This was due to the injuries it sustained in its battle against Yuga's Pokémon. Because it wasn't treated in time, even Leavanny couldn't fully heal it, and now the leg was permanently disabled.
Yuga who had catching up commanded Absol to leap forward, blocking the squad leader's path.
"What are you doing here?!" the squad leader exclaimed. His face turned pale at the sight of Yuga, his tone shifting from questioning to panicked disbelief.
Yuga didn't bother answering. The truth was that Granbull had been reluctant to bring Yuga here to find this person in the first place. Yuga decided it was better not to make things more awkward for Granbull, especially since he still needed to bring Granbull back later.
Seeing Escavalier by Yuga's side, the squad leader immediately realized it was the one who led Yuga here. Regret filled his heart for not finishing off Escavalier earlier.
Originally, he had spared Escavalier's life, thinking it might convince Leavanny to obey him without taking things to the extreme. He never expected this decision would come back to haunt him.
Ignoring the squad leader's shifting expressions, Yuga said coldly, "Just surrender. Don't force me to take action."
But there was no way the squad leader would give up without a fight. He knew he had no chance against Yuga, but he still had to try. If he was captured, his fate would be sealed.
"Zebstrika, use Agility!" the squad leader shouted, urging the crippled Zebstrika to flee. He wasn't foolish enough to face Yuga head-on—that would be suicidal.
"Zebstrika!"
Zebstrika neighed loudly and started running. However, due to its disability, its speed was far slower than that of a normal Zebstrika.
"Absol, use Stone Edge!" Yuga commanded.
At his order, sharp stones shot out from Absol and exploded under Zebstrika's feet, sending both it and the squad leader flying.
Even after the explosion, the squad leader didn't give up. He scrambled to his feet, helped Zebstrika back up, and mounted it again.
"Run! Hurry, run!" he yelled desperately.
Zebstrika, equally panicked, tried to run again. But with its already crippled leg and the additional injuries from Absol's attack, it couldn't move quickly at all.
Seeing this, Yuga gave another command: "Absol, use Stone Edge again!"
Swoosh swoosh swoosh!
A barrage of sharp stones shot toward the squad leader and Zebstrika. However, Yuga underestimated the overwhelming power of his Champion-level Absol against the severely weakened squad leader and his Zebstrika.
Zebstrika was blasted into the air once more, and the squad leader was thrown from its back, sent flying in a different direction.
Fate dealt the squad leader an unfortunate hand. As he landed, he was impaled by a sharp stone blade jutting out of the ground. The blade pierced straight through his chest.
A sickening squelch sounded as a spray of blood splattered into the air.
Witnessing this scene, Yuga's heart skipped a beat. He still had questions for the squad leader—this wasn't supposed to end like this.
Riding on Absol, Yuga rushed over and released Chimecho to heal the injured squad leader.
Not far away, Escavalier, observing the battle, finally breathed a sigh of relief. The squad leader's defeat meant that Leavanny could return safely.
"Huff... Huff..."
The squad leader coughed up large amounts of blood, which gushed from his mouth in torrents, while the wound on his chest continued to bleed profusely.
With a face full of resentment, the squad leader glared at Yuga. The fiery rage in his eyes seemed capable of incinerating Yuga into ashes.
Yuga, however, was completely indifferent to the glare.
The stone blade had pierced straight through the squad leader's heart. While Chimecho had immediately stopped the bleeding, the man was still on the brink of death. Without delay, Yuga summoned Gengar.
"Gengar, use Hypnosis on him! I have questions to ask."
"Gengar~"
Gengar responded with a nod, casting Hypnosis to swiftly take control of the squad leader's consciousness. Already on the verge of death, the squad leader's mind was in a state of confusion, allowing the Hypnosis to work with exceptional ease.
Yuga's first question was, of course, about the location of Team Plasma's breeding base for Brutish Emperor Pokémon. Though he wasn't certain the squad leader knew, he had to ask—what if he did?
If Yuga could locate the base, it would be a major windfall for him.
"Accumula... Town..."
The squad leader only managed to utter those words before he died.
Accumula Town? Where in Accumula Town? Why say half of it and stop? How infuriating!
Even so, learning about Accumula Town was better than getting nothing at all.
Initially, Yuga had planned to return to Verdanturf Town, but now, with this unexpected development, he decided to make a detour to Accumula Town. He couldn't leave the mystery unresolved.
Didn't Granbull mention having some memory of the environment near the breeding facility? There was a chance Yuga could find it!
After reaching this conclusion, Yuga found a spot to bury the squad leader's body. Though the man wasn't a good person, it was an accidental death caused by Yuga, so he left the body intact to grant some dignity in death.
From the squad leader's possessions, Yuga not only retrieved the Pokéball containing Leavanny but also found several other Pokéballs holding his original Pokémon.
However, many of these Pokémon were severely crippled due to the lack of timely medical treatment. Their combat capabilities were significantly diminished, yet their owner hadn't abandoned them.
Yuga decided to sell them to Licia's artificial breeding facility. Although they were disabled, their ability to reproduce remained unaffected.
At Licia's facility, Yuga could profit, and these disabled Pokémon would have a secure future. Though they would lose their freedom, they would live comfortably with guaranteed food and shelter.
The squad leader's Pokémon were well-bred, so they would likely fetch a good price.
After handling the squad leader's remains, Yuga turned to Escavalier and Leavanny, who had just been released. The two Pokémon were still tightly hugging each other, celebrating their reunion.
"Would you two like to come with me?" Yuga asked after some thought.
Although their combat strength wasn't impressive, Leavanny's skill with medicine seemed extraordinary. Otherwise, the squad leader wouldn't have been so determined to capture it, and Yuga was quite tempted by the idea.
Moreover, Leavanny reminded Yuga of the Audino he once encountered.
Hearing Yuga's invitation, Escavalier hesitated. From its observations, Yuga seemed like a decent person, powerful and reliable. Following him was bound to be a good decision.
Actually, it had long wanted to stop letting Leavanny exhaust itself every day, running around to help the other Pokémon in the forest. Sometimes it even encountered danger. However, Leavanny enjoyed this kind of life and found happiness in it, no matter how much Escavalier tried to persuade it otherwise. In the end, it could only helplessly accompany Leavanny, protecting it.
When Leavanny heard Yuga's proposal, it immediately refused. It expressed that it loved its current way of life and had no intention of leaving the forest to be with a human.
Upon hearing Leavanny's decision, Escavalier's expression was one of "as expected." It had already guessed that Leavanny would make such a choice. Since Leavanny had chosen to stay, Escavalier naturally had to remain as well—after all, Leavanny was its dearest treasure.
"Alright then, I respect your decision," Yuga said to Leavanny and Escavalier with a smile.
Seeing that Leavanny declined, Yuga didn't push further. He had merely asked on a whim, so it was fine whether they agreed or not.
Yuga checked the time; it was a little past 9 a.m. He hadn't slept all night, and now that everything had settled down, a wave of fatigue suddenly hit him.
At the invitation of Escavalier and Leavanny, Yuga went to their home, where he set up a tent and took a nap.
Escavalier and Leavanny lived in the largest tree in the forest. The hollowed-out center of the tree trunk provided a spacious area, large enough for Yuga to pitch his tent.
After waking up, Yuga shared a meal with the two Pokémon before bidding them farewell and leaving.
Once he left the forest, Yuga rode on Dragonite and flew in the direction of Accumula Town.
Yuga had never been to Accumula Town and didn't know much about it. Before heading there, he used his resources to look up some information about the place.
Accumula Town is located in the southeastern part of the Unova region, neither too far nor too close to Lacunosa Town. It is most famous for its undulating terrain, featuring many unique landscapes.
Because of its environment, the area around Accumula Town hasn't been extensively developed by humans, allowing various wild Pokémon to thrive.
Although the town is not heavily developed, it is the most populous small town in the entire Unova region.
By the time Yuga arrived at Accumula Town, it was the next day. Upon reaching the town, he finally understood what the information meant by "unique terrain."
The area surrounding Accumula Town was filled with steep cliffs and rugged escarpments. If one didn't enter the town from the front, it was almost impossible to get in from other directions.
Fortunately, Yuga arrived on Dragonite, so the terrain didn't pose a challenge for him.
Looking down from above, Yuga could see all sorts of Pokémon active in the forest. What amazed him the most were the Sawsbuck climbing along the cliffs.
Even though these Sawsbuck didn't have claws or hands, they could skillfully traverse the cliffs and escarpments, enjoying the delicious fruits growing in those treacherous locations.
Flying over the forest, Yuga entered Accumula Town and stayed at the Pokémon Center. After a simple meal, he took Granbull out for a stroll around town.
Due to its challenging terrain, Accumula Town was not particularly large. While wandering around, Yuga deliberately inquired about the town's Day Care and any unique places in the area.
Since it was associated with Team Plasma, Yuga figured the breeding facility wouldn't necessarily be in plain sight.
After exploring for most of the day, Yuga still hadn't found any leads. He decided to take a break by sitting at the fountain in the center of the town, eating and resting with Granbull.
"Make way! Make way! Move aside quickly!"
Suddenly, a shout came from the distance. Yuga saw a figure charging toward him, and he instinctively stepped aside.
Splash!
The figure fell into the pool of water behind him.
