Chapter 18: Unexpected rewards

The morning sun illuminated the city of Pentos, casting long shadows over the magistrates' empty estates. The air was filled with murmurs of the gods' fury, and the people of Pentos went about their day with a mix of fear and relief. Meanwhile, Alex and Daenerys prepared for the next step in their plan.

A Conversation of Reassurance

In the safe confines of their rented rooms, Daenerys sat on the edge of the bed, clutching one of the dragon eggs. Her excitement was palpable, but her nerves were just as evident.

"Soon we'll have control of Pentos," Alex said, leaning against the wall.

Daenerys looked up, her violet eyes wide. "I've never ruled before, Alex. What if I fail? What if I let my people down?"

Alex moved closer, placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "Don't overthink it. Ruling is about learning. You'll make mistakes, but that's part of growing as a leader. I'll be here to guide you every step of the way. Together, we'll make sure your journey to reclaim the Iron Throne is unstoppable."

Her lips curved into a small, grateful smile. "Thank you. I don't know what I would do without you."

Alex nodded. "You'll do great, Daenerys. Trust me."

Unknown to Alex, there was a small blush on Daenerys cheeks. Feeling something changed inside her a little even Unknown to herself.

As Alex had anticipated, the puppet prince wasted no time seizing the magistrates' estates and assets. Gold, jewels, fine silks, and other treasures were hauled into the prince's palace. The once-wealthy estates were now bare, their riches concentrated in the hands of the prince, whose ego grew with every passing moment.

The prince paraded his newfound wealth before his court, boasting about how the gods had favored him by ridding Pentos of the corrupt magistrates. Unbeknownst to him, his days were numbered.

An Unexpected Reward.

Later that day, as Alex checked his system interface, a notification appeared:

System Notification

Reward Received: 2000 Credits for eliminating Viserys Targaryen.

Reward Received: 1000 Credits for eliminating Illyrio Mopatis.

Alex raised an eyebrow. "Well, that's unexpected," he muttered.

He opened the system panel. "Why so many credits for them?"

The system responded in its usual calm tone:

"The credits awarded for killing Viserys Targaryen and Illyrio Mopatis are tied to their importance within this world's narrative. Characters of significant influence or impact in the Game of Thrones timeline yield higher rewards. Eliminating such individuals creates ripples in the timeline, justifying greater compensation."

Alex smirked. "So, the more important they are, the bigger the reward. Interesting."

The system continued,

"Your quest to take control of Pentos remains incomplete as the puppet prince still rules. Eliminating him will finalize your objective."

Alex clenched his fists. "Not for long."

That night, Alex sat with his armed soldiers, Victor and Mark, along with Raven and Leon. He outlined his strategy.

"The prince thinks he's untouchable now that he has all the magistrates' wealth," Alex began. "But he's just a fat pig waiting for the slaughter. Once he's taken the assets, we'll strike. I want this done cleanly and quickly. No unnecessary chaos."

Victor smirked. "You've got it, boss. When do we move?"

"Tomorrow night," Alex replied. "By then, he'll have everything consolidated. Once he's gone, Daenerys will step in, and Pentos will have new leadership."

Leon nodded. "And the people? How will they react?"

"They already hate him," Alex said. "When they see Daenerys, a Targaryen, stepping in to lead them, they'll welcome her with open arms. Especially after the gods supposedly rid them of their corrupt rulers."

Alex waited till Prince collected all the assets from magistrates, so he doesn't have to worry about manage those assets. And a financial team can manage them by that time.

As the team dispersed to prepare, Alex stayed behind, staring out the window at the city below.

Daenerys approached him quietly. "You're always so calm, even when so much is happening."

Alex glanced at her. "It's not about being calm. It's about staying focused. Tomorrow is a big day for both of us."

She nodded, her determination growing. "I'll be ready."

Alex turned back to the city, a small smile playing on his lips. "Good. Because once the prince is gone, there's no turning back."

The pieces were in place, and the final step toward taking control of Pentos was just a day away.
