Chapter 10: New Year New me
Lakeside, Illinois January 18th 1991
"It's no problem Charlie of course I can be at your school's career day. Yes, yes I'll be on time. O? Your mother and Neal will be there as well. Doesn't Neal have patients to talk and ro- *cough* I mean listen too? No? OK I understand then I'll see you then. Goodbye Charlie"
I then hang up the phone and think about the upcoming talk. It was during this career day that Charlie declares to his class that I am Santa Claus. Which would make me proud except it became a problem as Laura and Neal and even the school principal share their concerns that Charlie is confused.
In the film Scott simply brushed off the issue stating that is was nothing more than a little boy's imagination and that they were over reacting. However, Laura and Neal grew more concern as time passed and Scott's physical transformation only added to their concerns.
Now I knew from the film that Scott's transformation can't be stopped. Every time he tried to shave his beard grew back, and despite not being mentioned in the film I guessing that even dieting wouldn't even stop the weight gain.
So I'm going to have to get creative on how to avoid the scrutiny.

"Now Charlie, I know you want to share with your whole class that I am Santa, but I would prefer to keep it a secret"
"Why Dad?"
"Have you ever heard the phrase seeing is believing?"
"Yes"
"well for some people they take the statement literally. Thus if you go up to your class and say I am Santa most people won't believe because I don't look like Santa. I think it would be best to avoid that confusion and simply say that I am a toy maker"
"But Dad I know your Santa and the kids will see it too"
"Thanks Charlie, but I just don't feel ready yet to be called Santa so lets hold off for now ok?"
"OK"
"Thank you Charlie" As I finish my conversation with Charlie we go inside his school and I think to myself that I just suppressed one headache, but more are yet to come.
