In Trevor's Heart

Chapter 3: Chapter 3

Trevor woke up annoyed. More with himself than anyone.

He'd barely slept because something... someone, was on his mind.

Sure, she'd been on his mind for a while, but not to the extent of him dreaming about her. It was crazy what was happening to him. It's not like he's going to see her again.

He sighed as he walked into his bathroom, brushed his teeth and then spent a few minutes under the shower, scrubbing as the water cascaded down his body. Letting his thoughts wonder.

Maybe he should've asked for her number when he had the chance. Just to check up on her.

He remembered what happened last night and immediately felt himself getting angry. How dare that lowlife call her ugly? Her? That beautiful woman who held his heart in her palms so many times?

It'd taken a lot from him not to chase after him that day and break his jaw. But he was more concerned for Tina.

He laughed to himself as he turned off the shower. If this was his own way of trying to let her go, then it wasn't going to work out at all.

"Hopefully, we won't meet again," he muttered as he stepped out the shower, wrapped in a towel.

It wasn't a really genuine wish, but he knew that if he didn't see her again, he'd be able to cope in a way. He really didn't want to get too used to her, missing her and all.

Yeah, he didn't need it.

Tina didn't know how to cook. And that was why she either always ate out or just ordered. Or she got people to cook for her.

One of those people was Lamont. Her assistant, who was also her friend. Who she was extremely mad at.

"Hi, boss!"

"You didn't come to the wedding, neither did you text me or call," she said, mouth filled with bread.

She was sat in her hotel room with her hair in disarray. There's toast, eggs and a few other things that she'd ordered that she couldn't remember the names of were on her bed.

They smelled and looked good though, that was all that mattered.

"Oh. Yeah. I'm so sorry about that," her assistant apologized. "I sent a gift to your cousin though."

Andrew and Lamont had met a few times. They weren't exactly friends, but they had each other's contact and that was because of that one time that they had to rush Tina to the hospital. It seemed to make sense that the closest people to her would have each other's contacts.

"That still doesn't make you for it. I was all alone at that wedding and people just kept trying to talk to me," she groaned.

Lamont sounded amused. "I don't know why you're so mad anyway. I'm taking care of some business for you and then I'm coming to see you tomorrow."

"You better."

Andrew was the one who booked the hotel for them. It was supposed to be for a few days or a week if they wanted and Tina had every intention of enjoying herself to the fullest. Just that she needed someone to tell her how her business was doing while she did that.

After talking for a few more minutes, she ended the call, kept the plates aside and fell to her bed, belly full as she was unable to move.

The food and call was able to get her mind off of him for just a moment.

Hopefully, the fatigue that was taking over her would continue with the job.

The day went by quickly and soon Trevor was back home from work. Owning a restaurant wasn't as easy as he'd envisioned in the beginning, but at least he loved what he was doing.

Just when he was about to relax on his bed, he got a call. Without bothering to look at the ID, he answered, "Hello."

"You sound weird."

"I just came back from work, what do you think?" he answered.

"Oh, rude."

Trevor rolled his eyes. He'd sent his friend a message that he'd be late home because of work and he was calling him now?

"Okay, I'm sorry," Mike apologized. "I just called to tell you I won't be around."

"For how long?"

"A few days. I'm going to see Suzie."

"Oh."

Suzie was Mike's girlfriend whom he was planning on proposing to soon. She lived quite far away and always said she had no interest in moving away from her base.

Mike was quite willing to stay with her, but Trevor didn't know what to think about that. They'd lived near each other for the longest time and he wasn't sure if he was willing to let his best friend go just like that.

Moving away wasn't a bad thing though, but Trevor didn't fancy the idea of being alone. His parents lived in another state and his brother moved to another country. He and Mike had moved to this city to get work and really good health care, and more but now things were changing.

"Trev? Are you listening?"

"Yes, I am," Trevor responded softly. "Have a great time with Suzie and call me if you need anything and there's anything I can do, okay?"

"Alright, man. Thanks. See you when I get back."

"Sure. Bye."

"Bye, and good night."

Trevor no longer felt exhausted. He just felt sad. And lonely. Something he'd never thought much about for a while.

Maybe he should consider his parents advice to start dating again. And just forget about Tina.

He went to wash his face and looked himself in the mirror, assessing his figure. He wasn't bad looking. He was quite handsome from the comments women always made when they were around him, despite the little scar he had on his lip; his smile made up for that. His eyes were brown and his skin had always looked good. He'd always smelled great. Tina had always said that...

Yeah, he really needed to start dating again.

"I can do this," he whispered as he stared at himself.

He reached out to touch his overgrown black hair. "I should open a dating profile," he said after a thought.

He wasn't interested in going outside and meeting people. Though he'd never done that, starting online made lots of sense.
