In Trevor's Heart

Chapter 4: Chapter 4

The day was boring. Tina wanted to have some fun, even though it was a rare case. Basically, she needed a particular someone to scream at her in excitement or something.

"But then at the same time I really like the silence," she mumbled as she got into the pool, dressed in her bathing suit.

All she'd done was eaten, watched movies and slept. It was better when she was working because right now, she felt like she was wasting precious time.

But she didn't want to waste her cousin's money by leaving. This hotel was expensive and Andrew spent his money on her comfort for good reasons. All work was going to ruin her and he needed her alive to see his first kid, he said.

So she was going to do it for him. It was just a few days.

She was in the pool all alone, sipping her drink, watching to see if anyone was coming. She didn't want to socialize, so if she saw anyone, she's sure to jump right out and go back to her room.

Sometimes she wondered how she did so well at work if she always avoided people.

She heard her phone ring and reached out to pick it up.

"Hey."

"I'm almost at the hotel, did you miss me?"

Tina groaned as she rolled her eyes. "Who cares if you come?"

She refused to tell him that she had a relieved smile on her face. She wasn't going to show any weakness.

"It's alright, you don't have to admit anything yet. By the way, I've got some good news!"

"Tell me when you come. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm trying to enjoy my pool time."

"But you-"

She smiled in satisfaction as she cut him off. For some reason, it felt nice doing that.

Lamont was a man in his thirties who almost always had a smile on his face. He was a blond and blue eyed handsome man who had the ability to capture the attention of anyone, not just with his face, but with his personality too.

That was how he captured Tina, and that was why she in turn, used him to capture the attention of prospective clients and more.

He was both a long-time friend of hers and an important person in regards to the success of her business.

Sure, she was great on her own. But when they teamed up, it was remarkable.

"You look relaxed. I like that," he said with a smile.

They were down at the restaurant about to order food. It'd been announced that someone special was going to be in charge of making their dinner. They didn't really care about that and never took the time to listen to his name before going into a deep discussion.

"Well, it's not really by choice."

Lamont grinned. "It's good either way." He picked up a glass of juice to drink from the table and continued, "There's not too much work at the winery. Everything is going well and our clients are quite satisfied. One or two have a bit more ideas for the company, but that's something you could discuss with them later."

Tina didn't like when others had ideas on how her business had to be run, but she never complained. It was good to have input once in a while.

"That's okay, I guess. As long as it's nothing too bad."

"Don't worry about it."

Tina owned a winery. It wasn't what anyone expected her to go into, but she did anyway. It wasn't the most successful business or anything, but with years of effort and support, things started picking up and now they were almost known in the entire country.

One day, she wanted them to be known in the whole world. But she'd keep that plan for later.

"Where's our food?" Lamont grumbled after a bit.

"Didn't they say something about some chef who's going to..." Tina trailed off the moment she saw who was in front of her.

"Good evening. My name is Chef Trevor Samuels and I..." He almost choked as he recognized her. But Trevor caught himself together and pretended like they were total strangers. He tried.

Lamont whistled. "No one mentioned how hot the chef would be," he said unashamedly.

Trevor raised a brow. "Uh... Thanks?"

"You're welcome," Lamont said with a bright smile.

He looked at Lamont and how close he acted with Tina suspiciously. He knew he didn't have the right to feel any kind of way, but he couldn't help himself.

He'd just never seen any man that wasn't family be that close to Tina.

"Hello," he said to Tina, trying his best to be professional.

"Hi," she croaked.

"This is your order, which I personally prepared tonight."

The waiter behind him placed the plates on their table as he explained how he made the food and how it was surely to their liking.

Lamont didn't seem bothered by his explanations. Instead, he seemed to be very interested in him. His face, his body and... It looked like wanted to start asking him questions, but he didn't. It was probably because Tina nudged him with her shoulders.

Trevor was curious to know what else the man wanted to say though.

"I hope you like the food then," he said, not knowing what else to say to the two.

Tina offered him a smile. "Sure."

"You don't want to join us?"

Trevor looked at the one who asked the question in surprise. Was he really asking him to join them in eating?

"Uh... I came here to work. Not eat," he said. "Have a nice time."

As he walked away from them, thoughts jumbled, Tina and Lamont began talking talking. With the latter receiving an earful from his boss.

"What? He's hot. I'd like to get to know him better."

Tina frowned at him, uncomfortable with his interest in Trevor. "What if he's not interested?"

"Well, I wouldn't exactly know that now that he's gone, right?" Lamont answered cheekily.

The thought of Trevor being interested in her assistant or anyone wasn't something she'd be excited by. The more she thought about it t, the more she understood that did not like that and it took a lot from her not to say it to her assistant.

"Do you like him?" he asked, digging into his pasta. "Because I wouldn't fault you for that. You haven't been with anyone for a while." He paused. "Have you ever been with anyone since we've been friends though?"

Tina sighed. "Let's just eat, Lamont."

"You're just trying to avoid the topic of dating," he accused.

She didn't deny it, but she said, "I'm not interested in dating anyone. Or being in a relationship."

"But you're interested in our Chef Samuels, right? I think you should've taken the opportunity to shoot your shot."

"I don't think he'd be interested in dating me, Lamont," she said in protest.

"And why wouldn't he be?" he asked, curious as he stared at her.

She looked away from him as she answered, "I just know."

And she knew it all too well.
