Chapter 46 - II
Liu Fang was walking in the yard. He moved faster than Jing Xingzhi and opened the door.
The man who knocked on the door was from the neighbor’s house. The roots of his ears were red, and it was unclear what was going on.
He looked at the young couple, one near and one far away, and said to them, “Xingzhi, from now on, the leftovers from your family will be fine if you give them to my dog Wangcai, but the rest, don’t give them to Wangcai. That stupid dog is full!”
Jing Xingzhi, at the kitchen door, asked a little confused, “What leftovers? Is Wangcai okay?”
“It’s the chicken wings from lunch!” The man explained, and then Wangcai calmed down and left after nothing happened.
Everyone left, and Liu Fang didn’t close the courtyard door. It seemed like he was frozen.
Jing Xingzhi was also stunned, feeling like he had heard something he shouldn’t have.
No wonder Liu Fang ate so much at dinner…
It turned out Liu Fang didn’t eat at all at noon, and all the food was given to the dog next door!
Jing Xingzhi figured it out and said helplessly behind Liu Fang, “You have to eat even if I’m not around. What if you’re hungry?”
In front of Jing Xingzhi, where he couldn’t see, Liu Fang blushed and said in a low voice:
“When I get angry… I forget to eat.”
Liu Fang forgot about it now. When he was feeding chicken wings to the dog next door, his stomach growled. He went for a run in the morning, which was just enough exercise. He was hungry, but he felt full when he was angry.
Listening to Liu Fang’s weak voice with a bit of embarrassment, Jing Xingzhi thought of what he kept saying about finishing the chicken wings, and couldn’t help but laugh.
Jing Xingzhi said, “As for the chicken wings… I’ve finished what I made for lunch!”
“Ahhh! Don’t follow me, it’s embarrassing!”
Liu Fang was so embarrassed by the laughter that he turned around and ran towards Jing Xingzhi.
Jing Xingzhi didn’t want to stay there and be tickled, so he ran into the kitchen with a smile.
Liu Fang followed him into the kitchen reluctantly, held him down, and playfully tickled him, making Jing Xingzhi’s face sore from laughter.
After teasing the person who had teased him, Liu Fang thought, to round it off, it would be like pressing him against the wall!
There was a quarrel for a while, and Jing Xingzhi slept on Liu Fang’s bed that night.
.
This led to Liu Fang woken up by Jing Xingzhi early the next morning, “I’m leaving. I’ll bring you back some spicy rabbit heads.”
“Yeah, be careful on the road,” Liu Fang replied. Suffering from insomnia the night before, he was still half-asleep, reaching under the pillow to grab a handful of money prepared the night before and giving it to Jing Xingzhi.
Jing Xingzhi shook his head, looking at the golden melon seeds, golden peanuts, and golden leaves in his hand. ——Liu Fang really treats him like a child, giving him cute pocket money.
But looking at cute things more often would be nice. Jing Xingzhi took a small golden peanut, examined it a few more times, and made a couple of playful gestures on Liu Fang’s fair face before standing up.
When Jing Xingzhi left, Liu Fang, awakened by Jing Xingzhi’s antics, opened his eyes.
Still groggy from sleep, he fully woke up when he saw Jing Xingzhi making playful gestures on his face with a golden peanut through the slit of his eye.
Peanut, peanut, even mentioning that he was pregnant, he suspected that Jing Xingzhi was making trouble again! Who can sleep in such an environment?
.
Jing Xingzhi walked out of the academy and encountered several students asking for leave. After inquiring, he found out they were seeing off Zhu Da or Zhang Kaiwei.
Coincidentally, the two adversaries were leaving on the same day.
When asked by students, Jing Xingzhi jokingly said he was sending relatives there, suggesting they might run into each other.
Arriving near the pier, Jing Xingzhi got out of the carriage first, then found a willow tree to sit under, waiting for the fish to appear.
In front of the pier, two large ships stood side by side, allowing small boats to pass only from both sides. However, judging by the flags on the bows, no one dared to object. After all, ordinary people valued their lives, and they could simply step aside.
Jing Xingzhi observed the two ships, considering the need to look to the side later to avoid accidentally injuring outsiders.
Around noon, Zhang Tong and the Zhu family appeared on the dock.
Students who had met Jing Xingzhi during their journey began to send them off.
Jing Xingzhi listened to the Zhu family members crying for a while, and finally, they all boarded the boat.
A quarter past noon.
Ning Yongyuan boarded the boat wearing the same outfit as when he arrived, his face dark, not waiting for Zhang Kaiwei.
Zhang Kaiwei conversed with the students, then caught up and joined them on the boat.
Stepping onto the boat, Zhang Kaiwei felt an unexplained panic, as if a cool wind swept over him.
Despite the unsettling feeling, he lifted his gaze, squinting at the glaring sun in fear. A momentary illusion, he thought, rubbing his hands, and proceeded to his room.
On the other boat, Zhu Da, inside the cabin, also sensed an unexplained chill. After a brief contemplation, he opted to head to the deck to soak in the sun.
Shortly after, Zhu Da and Zhang Kaiwei crossed paths on their respective boats.
No room for two tigers on one mountain, they collided without exchanging glances, each sneering inwardly.
Zhu Da mocked, “Hey, Brother Zhang is leaving today too! If you’d told me earlier, I would’ve rescheduled. With you here, no mishaps will occur! Who will I argue with if the boat capsizes!”
Zhu Da still harbored resentment toward Zhang Kaiwei’s plotting against him.
Zhang Kaiwei smiled, “It’s none of my business if the boat capsizes.” He thought, “I wish your boat would capsize, even better if it does.”
Jing Xingzhi overheard the conversation from afar, noting no nearby boats. Concealing his right thumb in his sleeve, he cut his right index finger, and a drop of blood landed in the water.
A sudden “clang” echoed.
A calm wave surged, diverting Zhu Da’s boat off course.
Unluckily, as Zhu Da argued with Zhang Kaiwei, he was shaken up and tumbled directly into the water!
