Chapter 271: Taking a Small Advantage
Chapter 271: Taking a Small Advantage
Lin Fengmian retorted angrily, “You’re the ghost! I’m a human!”
He recognized the man in front of him, and an inexplicable feeling of familiarity arose.
Wasn’t that… the Dumb Bear? No, Guan Chengtian?
Guan Chengtian patted his chest and said in his deep, gravelly voice, “Brother, your looks are terrifying!”
Lin Fengmian never imagined that he’d be called ugly by this guy. He couldn’t help but laugh bitterly.
Truly, karma always comes full circle.
“Brother, you’re not much better than me. Why do you cover your face?”
Guan Chengtian removed the black cloth covering his face, revealing a sheepish, knowing smile that only men could understand. There was a mixture of pride and embarrassment on his face.
“Well, I just… you know, had a thing with Senior Sister Zhang Xier…”
Seeing this burly man with his shy expression made Lin Fengmian shudder involuntarily.
“Alright, I get it. But what’s with the face cover?”
Awkwardly scratching his head, Guan Chengtian explained, “Senior Sister Zhang likes a bit of, uh, spice. She told me to cover my face – it is more exciting that way.”
Lin Fengmian looked at his face and instinctively covered his own with his hand.
I got it. Without the mask, she couldn’t bring herself to do it.
Senior Sister Zhang Xier was truly exceptional. She could even handle this.
I salute you, a true warrior among women.
Wait, but it’s not like I’m in a position to judge him right now.
Ahem. A man as exceptional as me never relies on appearances!
My physique is much better than his, not to mention… more capable in every way. How could we even be compared?
Guan Chengtian seemed to have decided that Lin Fengmian was one of his kind, greeting him warmly with a wide grin.
“Brother, are you from Green Leek Peak as well? Why haven’t I seen you before?”
Feeling slightly uneasy at his overly familiar tone, Lin Fengmian chuckled softly. “You could say that.”
“Which house do you live in? Let’s hang out more often. From now on, I’ll have your back in Green Leek Peak!” Guan Chengtian offered enthusiastically.
Seeing his earnestness, Lin Fengmian couldn’t help but feel a trace of pity.
“No need. I don’t live on Green Leek Peak anymore.”
With that, he stepped onto his Windleaf Sword and soared into the sky, leaving behind a stunned Guan Chengtian.
“An inner sect senior! I finally saw an inner sect senior! Who said that there were no men in the inner sect? Nonsense!”
Guan Chengtian waved excitedly. “Senior Brother, come back to Green Leek Peak sometime! Tell us about life in the inner sect!”
Lin Fengmian chuckled slightly. “If there’s a chance, I will!”
If neither of us dies, that is.
He glanced back at Guan Chengtian, who was still waving enthusiastically. His heart felt a tangle of emotions.
It seemed Green Leek Peak had a leek starting to notice something was off. Trying to pull Guan Chengtian into their schemes… not the brightest idea.
Perhaps Guan Chengtian might follow in his footsteps and become the longest-surviving male disciple of the Joyful Union Sect.
But what kind of fate awaited him?
Seeing Guan Chengtian again, Lin Fengmian no longer felt the previous hatred or desire to eliminate him.
There was no deep-seated grudge between them; this guy was just a simple-minded fool.
But most importantly, Lin Fengmian saw a reflection of himself in Guan Chengtian. That was what made them kindred spirits.
No matter how close he was to Chen Qingyan and the others, he never forgot that he was merely a cauldron.
Man is the knife, I am the meat.
Until the day he replaced Jun Wuxie, he would remain nothing more than a lamb waiting for slaughter.
If the plan failed, the only thing he could expect was death – or being sent to the so-called Jade Dragon Peak.
Lin Fengmian flew cautiously toward the inner sect on his Windleaf Sword, careful not to attract the attention of the Joyful Union Sect’s senior sisters.
If some undiscerning senior sister dragged him off for dual cultivation, it would be quite a disaster.
Now, every step he took within the Joyful Union Sect left him on edge. He even considered taking a page from Xie Gui’s book and fashioning himself a chastity belt.
Fortunately, the journey back to Skyview Peak was uneventful. Once there, he entered a secluded chamber and cultivated quietly until nightfall.
That evening, he took out the jade pendant once again and repeatedly called for a response. But just like before, there was no response.
By now, he had grown numb to the lack of reaction. Gazing at the faint light of dawn, he let out a soft sigh.
Just then, the Double Fish Pendant suddenly lit up, and a familiar darkness enveloped him, pulling him in.
When Lin Fengmian opened his eyes, the long-awaited sight of Luo Xue greeted him.
As before, she stood by the riverside, exuding the elegance of an otherworldly immortal.
When she noticed his arrival, Luo Xue looked slightly embarrassed, brushing her hair aside as she awkwardly muttered, “What’s with the urgency?”
Overcome with emotion, Lin Fengmian rushed forward and hugged her tightly. “Luo Xue, are you okay?”
Startled, Luo Xue became visibly uncomfortable. “What are you doing? Let go!”
Hearing her protest only made Lin Fengmian tighten his embrace. His hand shot out to grasp hers, seizing the Zhenyuan Sword she held.
“No way! If I let go, you’ll send me back with a single stroke. That would be too unfair!”
Luo Xue didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. “Let go! If I wanted to cut you down, I could do it whether you’re holding onto me or not. What good is this?”
“It’s good for taking advantage of you,” Lin Fengmian replied honestly.
Momentarily stunned, Luo Xue quickly realized what he meant. Her face turned red as her anger flared up. “Get lost!”
Her aura surged, sending Lin Fengmian flying. Yet, he landed gracefully and unscathed.
“Hah, not bad. Already at the third layer of the Foundation Establishment Realm? Had some lucky encounters, huh?” Luo Xue remarked in surprise.
Only then did Lin Fengmian realize that their actual strength levels were synchronized within this space – each reflecting their respective realities.
A thought crossed his mind: if he ever grew stronger than Luo Xue, could he wrestle the Zhenyuan Sword from her and decide when and where to go?
But as he looked at her, the sheer difficulty of such a task dawned on him. It seemed to be an insurmountable challenge.
Of course, Lin Fengmian couldn’t reveal the truth about absorbing Wang Yanran’s essence; otherwise, Luo Xue would be even less inclined to let him cross over.
Instead, he deflected, carefully choosing his words. “Uh, nothing special. I just got force-fed by the Joyful Union Sect.”
Fearing that she might press further, he changed the topic with mock indignation, “Luo Xue, don’t try to divert attention! We agreed to face the Heaven Soaring Sword Saint together, yet you sent me away without a word. Is this what you call loyalty?”
His accusatory tone startled Luo Xue.
But after a moment’s thought, she remembered that her strength far outweighed his. What was there to fear?
She glared back defiantly and raised the Zhenyuan Sword. “So what? Do you have a problem with that?”
“No problem!”
Lin Fengmian’s righteous indignation instantly fizzled out, and his momentum deflated. After all, strength prevailed.
He awkwardly changed the subject again. “Luo Xue, why did you call me? Is something wrong with you? Or… did you just miss me?”
Luo Xue hadn’t expected him to guess so accurately and was momentarily flustered.
Her expression turned unnatural as she admitted, “Yesterday morning, my Thousand Illusions Technique broke. I can’t use it anymore to disguise myself as you.”
Lin Fengmian’s face remained blank for a moment before his mouth twitched. Unable to hold it in, he burst out laughing.
“Marvelous! Absolutely marvelous!”
