Kurapik's POV

It was late morning. The warm rays of the brightly shining sun almost completely illuminated the ward of the Yorkshin City Central City Hospital. The atmosphere in the ward was quite ordinary. White walls and ceiling, pots of flowers on the windowsill, a couple of bedside tables, and the hospital beds themselves, one of which had recently been tucked in and tidied up, indicating that the patient who was lying on that bed had already recovered and was about to leave the hospital. That patient was Kurapika, who was still in the ward but was preparing to leave. Dressed in his usual clothes he looked at himself in the wall mirror.

The first and most obvious change after his recovery was his eye, or rather the absence of it. There was now a solid patch over his left eye, covering quite a bit of his face. However, the scar left by Diavolo still peeked out from under it, reaching to the corner of his mouth.

As for the rest of his appearance, he looked like he had aged a couple of years. It was understandable, because he had been under a lot of stress.

However, such changes in appearance didn't bother Kurapika much. On the contrary. He smirked ironically as he looked at himself in the mirror.

'Gee... What a sight... I look like I've been through a lot in life. That's true to a certain extent, though. I find it kind of funny, though. I look a little more grown-up now. Okay, well, it's time to leave this hospital.'

Leaving the ward, Kurapika went down to the ground floor and walked out of the hospital. Finally, after so long of being confined in the hospital, he was outside and was free to go wherever he wanted. And it was natural that after such a long time of eating hospital food he would want to go to a cafe and have a proper meal. But he's got other things to do there, too.

After almost ten minutes of walking around town he came to a cafe. Once inside he sat down at a table and ordered some soup and pasta. Of course he would have liked something tastier and more expensive, but he didn't have much money with him, and in any case it was still tastier than the hospital food.

When the food arrived he began to eat slowly, thinking about it.

'It's funny... It seems like it's only been two months since I've been in the hospital, and Risotto and the others have stepped in... But in that time, I've had time to do a lot of thinking, and rethink my life. I've realised I've made enough mistakes. The result I have now, it's all because of my thirst for revenge. Yes, that's right... Because of my thirst for revenge, I couldn't stop in time and think rationally enough, and that's why I lost. It's only now, after everything that's happened, that I'm really starting to understand the meaning behind Risotto's words. 'You can't tell your victim that you're going to kill them... For when those words come to your mind... Our victim is already dead and doesn't care anymore!' Those were his words. I understand them now. Because when you say those words, you worry. You stop thinking rationally and you doom yourself to defeat. You can't say those words until your target is dead. Just like you can't rejoice in victory until you've won. That's the truth of those words. Quite simple, but very important and not understood by everyone.'

Suddenly Kurapika set aside his spoon and rolled up his sleeves. He began to look at the scars that were left where his arms had been sewn back on.

'Interesting... My eye and my hands... Now because I lost my eye I can feel how it affected my strength. It has diminished. A big influence on my strength is my eyes. Always when my eyes turn red my power increases and also the ability to use 'Emperor's Time' appears. I can still use it, but much weaker now. Also somehow the temporary loss of my hands affected this. Maybe back then, when King Crimson chopped off my arms, his blows were charged with some kind of Nan. Or maybe it's a feature of The Stand. Hmm, The Stands... Formaggio and Prosciutto have managed to tell me enough about it. It's a strange and complicated thing indeed. But why did I hear about it so recently? Why hadn't I heard about it before? Maybe it's because there are very few Stand users and they keep their abilities secret? Hell knows... But that's the kind of power I'd like to have. It's just a pity that it's unlikely to happen someday, because as far as I know it can't be learnt. You either have it from birth, or you get it some time after birth, or you get it from the arrow that Risotto and the others went hunting for. I'll be joining them soon enough, though.'

Kurapika resumed eating the food he had almost finished, and as he did so he heard the sound of the cafe door opening. Looking towards the door Kurapika saw someone he had been waiting for a long time.

- Yo Kurapika! - Said Formaggio, who had a smile on his face when he saw Kurapika, 'Sorry I'm a little late. Happy recovery. - He sat down at Kurapika's table.

- Thank you. So, what's up? How's the search for another copy of the game going?

- It's almost done. We just have to wait to hear from Prosciutto. He'll let us know when we can start. What about you? You don't look your best. But it's better than it was a couple of months ago.

- It is what it is. But I'm used to that look. There's something fun about it, too, isn't there?

- Maybe. But in any case, I want to tell you that you're worthy of respect. Not everyone has the courage to pick up a fork.

- What?

- What? Never mind. Forget it. I thought you knew that joke. It's quite famous. I guess I was wrong.

- That's okay. It's okay to make mistakes, right? You're only human, after all.

- ... А?..

- It's Aida Mitsuo, man! How can you not know that?! Such a great line. I read it while I was in the hospital.

- Oh... Yeah... Aida Mitsuo... That's cool. That's a really good line.

Suddenly, a voice came from outside:

- 'You're settling in nicely, I see.

Turning their heads, they saw Prosciutto standing beside them.

- Hello, Prosciutto! Long time no see. - Kurapika greeted him cheerfully.

- You're here for a reason, aren't you? - Formaggio asked Prosciutto.

- Well... Actually, I'm really happy to see Kurapika healthy again. However, you've made a good point. Still, the main reason why I came to you is to tell you some important news. In short, everything is ready to enter the game.

- Greed Island?! - Kurapika cheered up, 'Can't we finally enter the game?! When can we start?

- Right now. The console with the game is at our house right now.

- So we're going right now.

- What? Now? - Formaggio was a little surprised. You just got out of the hospital.

- It doesn't matter. As far as I'm concerned, this case is incredibly important to you and Risotto. In which case, I'm not gonna sit around here!

- Wow! That's a good attitude! All right, let's go to our house and get in the game.

After another fifteen minutes of walking, they arrived home and entered Melone's flat. Next to the first console, a second console was already standing next to it and ready to be played.

Kurapika, Formaggio, Prosciutto and Pesci stood around this console occasionally glancing at each other and preparing themselves mentally.

- Are you sure about this? - Prosciutto turned to Kurapika, 'We have no idea what's in there or what we're going to encounter. Besides, you said you've lost your strength, which is definitely not a good thing. I'm gonna ask you again: Are you sure about this?

- Absolutely. I may be weaker in terms of Nan's strength, but not spiritually. All the things that have happened to me... It's not a pleasant experience, and it's not something anyone would wish for. But through it all, I've been able to grow spiritually. As a man, and most importantly, as a man. Whatever dangers await me, I will face them head on and overcome them. And most importantly, it's you... First of all, it's because of you that I've been able to grow so much. You're the ones who showed me what life is like. So now I just have to come with you and fight alongside you. And besides, we're a team.

- That's a good point,' said Prosciutto with a smile, 'Good spirit, and good words. In that case, let's not pull our balls over the cat and get in the damn game!
