Chapter 54: New Day Part 2

************************

Japan, Ozunu Orphanage: Forest

As the golden lightning arced through the soul space hitting Lucian, Lucian's body began to convulse in the real world. Then a black vein spread across his skin, snaking across his limbs and chest.

Satomi, her instincts screaming, hurriedly knelt beside him, her hand reaching for his.

Deaton, his brow furrowed before he began to assess his condition.

Noshiko frowned, while her gaze was fixed on Lucian. 'This shouldn't happen with an Alpha's bite. He should have died or awakened his kitsune blood,' she thought, casting a fleeting glance at Kim Yoo-ri before shaking her head, swallowing her pride and walking towards the woman.

"What do you know about Lucian?" Noshiko asked, knowing possibly that Kim Yoo-ri, who was close to Areum, might possess more information than they did.

Kim Yoo-ri frowned not because of Noshiko's question but because she couldn't think of anything to say about Lucian. The only words that came to mind were strong, ninja, killer, assassin.

She thought for a moment, organizing her thoughts, before finally speaking.

"Lucian was a poor...kid." she said, her voice laced with a hint of pity, thinking of how heartless Areum had been to him.

Noshiko looked at her, disappointment evident in her expression. 'Shouldn't have expected anything from her. Everyone here knows that about Lucian,' she thought, about to ask another question, when Kim Yoo-ri's voice interrupted her.

"What is that?" Kim Yoo-ri exclaimed her eyes widened in shock.

Noshiko followed her gaze, turning and finally saw Lucian.

Black energy pulsed from his chest then a white light emerged, followed by a green glow that spread across his body.

Finally, a golden wisp of energy, emanating from his chest, slowly spreads, covering his entire body. 'Kitsune,' Noshiko thought, sensing the familiar power of the white energy.

"Have you ever seen anything like this?" Satomi asked Deaton, her voice tinged with concern as she didn't know how to help Lucian.

"No, there's nothing even remotely similar recorded in the Druids' books." Deaton said, kneeling beside the Golden Sphere.

He took a deep breath, then placed his palm on the golden sphere, examining it.

Satomi's face etched with worry she couldn't help but look at Noshiko hoping for guidance as Noshiko was the oldest and most knowledgeable in their group.

Noshiko saw the hope in Satomi's eyes and she thought deeply, trying to recall anything that might be helpful.

Finally Noshiko shook her head, unable to find any answers.

"Is this supposed to happen?" Mika asked, her voice trembling with anxiety.

She couldn't help but ask Raizo, who stood beside her, while looking at the golden sphere. 'I was expecting a violent werewolf to appear. Why did it become a golden egg?' she thought, a pang of disappointment twisting in her gut as the supernatural world continued to defy her expectations.

Raizo, knowing nothing more about the supernatural than Mika so he simply shook his head, then turned to the group of supernatural beings, seeking answers.

Seeing their expressions of confusion and fear, Noshiko knew she had to say something. She sighed, shaking her head slowly. "This isn't supposed to happen. We don't know anything about his condition." she admitted, her voice heavy with worry. 'It should have been a gamble, and now it's become a miracle if he survives,' she thought, realizing that the unknown was sometimes more terrifying than what they already knew.

"Maybe we do know." Deaton said, slowly withdrawing his palm from the golden sphere.

"I thought this golden sphere was solid, designed to protect him, but it's not," he explained, his voice drawing everyone's attention.

"Then what is it? If it's not a protective shield?" Kim Yoo-ri asked, eager to understand the situation.

Deaton looked at them before continuing, "Werewolves like Satomi and Talia are different, making the Alpha bite different. Sometimes when an Alpha bites a person, they don't necessarily become a werewolf," he said slowly, ensuring everyone understood.

Noshiko nodded, absorbing the possibility.

"So are you telling me this happened because he's going to transform into another creature?" Satomi asked, her gaze fixed on the golden sphere.

Deaton nodded in response, his eyes locked on the shifting energies.

"Then do you know what creature he's going to be?" Noshiko asked, curiosity overriding her worry.

Deaton shook his head. "No, there are recordings of Alpha bites creating Kanimas, Werecoyotes, even Werejaguars." he said, gesturing towards the golden sphere. "But this isn't anything that's ever happened before. Whatever is happening here is like a cocoon, turning him into something entirely new." His voice was laced with wonder and curiosity.

"Then does that mean this golden sphere is more fragile than it looks?" Satomi asked, finally standing upright, her hands resting on her hips as she reached for her daggers.

"Yes, like a caterpillar, Lucian is very vulnerable until he emerges from his cocoon." Deaton said, meeting Satomi's gaze, understanding what she was thinking.

"Then nothing can happen to the boy while he changes." Satomi said, turning to face the sphere, ready to defend it until Lucian emerged.

Noshiko sighed, walking toward Deaton. "How long do you think it will take?" she asked, as they stood vigil around the golden sphere.

"If we're being optimistic, I'll say a day." Deaton whispered, his gaze never leaving the sphere. "If not, then maybe two or four weeks, or even longer. That's how long it takes for a caterpillar to transform into a butterfly."

Noshiko frowned hearing this but she tightened her grip on her katana, prepared for whatever might come.

They waited, surrounding the golden sphere, scanning the horizon for any signs of danger.

Finally, growing tired of the inactivity, Talia laid down on the ground, her gaze fixed on the sphere. 'What would the boy transform into?' she thought, her curiosity piqued. She had witnessed Lucian's monstrous fighting prowess, and she couldn't imagine how powerful he would become.

Then she saw a silver sheen spreading from the bottom of the golden sphere.

She stood up, alert, and howled, alerting the others.

Satomi turned towards Talia, who shook her wolf head, pointing at the golden sphere.

Satomi looked, and finally saw the silver spreading from the golden sphere. They all observed it, their expressions a mixture of curiosity and anxiety.

"What is it?" Kim Yoo-ri asked, reaching out to touch the silver surface.

"When a cocoon is about to hatch, it changes color." Deaton said, recalling the details of a butterfly cocoon. He compared the process to the sphere before them.

"So we just have to wait until this golden sphere becomes fully silver?" Noshiko asked, a sigh of relief escaping her lips.

"Hopefully." Deaton shrugged. They were simply guessing based on caterpillars while Lucian was, after all, a human bitten by an Alpha.

They waited, watching the golden sphere slowly transition to silver, their anticipation growing with each passing moment.

Finally, as the sun began to rise, the silver sphere crumbled, sparkling into dust that flew around them.

Lucian emerged when his figure was revealed, everyone's eyes widened in shock.

"What the fuck." Mika blurted out, while her jaw dropped.

SOUL SPACE

Lucian broke free from the silver sphere. His golden soul body had transformed, now become full silver and with a bit of gold. His ears were more pointed, a testament to his evolving nature.

Lucian felt the changes within him a shift he knew instinctively.

He looked down in surprise, 'Finally,' he thought, observing his more complete body. He stood, walking toward the open trunk out of the Golden Tree, his heart brimming with excitement.

He was eager to share the good news with Cortana but he didn't see her waiting for him outside the Golden Tree.

"Cortana!" he shouted, circling the tree, calling out for her. "Don't joke around like this! Cortana." he said, his voice laced with a playful urgency, but he still couldn't find her. He began to run, assuming she was just hiding from him.

"Cortana, come on, I'm not kidding." Lucian called out. Yet, every time he circled the tree, he saw nothing.

"Please, Cortana, come out." he pleaded, his voice trembling with worry as his heart ached with a growing sense of sadness.

"Cortana, please, where are you?" His voice turned to a desperate whisper, a plea lost in the silence of the soul space.

"Please, come back." Lucian knelt, feeling a gaping hole in his being. "No, please." His cries echoed through the soul space a raw expression of his anguish, as he felt himself being pulled away, out of the soul space and back into the real world.

He wasn't happy. He wasn't happy about the changes he had undergone. He wasn't happy that he was waking up because the only one he wanted to share his joy with was gone.

"No, I don't want to!" He shouted, his cry filled with despair and anguish, as he vanished, his voice fading into nothingness.

A gulp echoed through the group, as Noshiko turned towards Kim Yoo-ri the source of the sound. Yet, she didn't speak, her gaze fixed on Lucian.

"What is he? Is this even possible?" Kim Yoo-ri whispered, her voice filled with shock.

They all stared at Lucian, who stood naked, his body taller than expected for a nine-year-old, with flawless muscles and features that seemed unreal.

They focused on his pointed ears and then his flawless face.

"Did he become an elf?" Mika said slowly, her eyes still fixed on Lucian. 'No actors from a movie look as handsome as him,' she thought, comparing Lucian to the actors who portrayed elves in films.

She was right. Elves were blessed with beautiful bodies and faces, a natural beauty that no actor could replicate.

"No, I felt him like me." Noshiko said slowly, her voice barely a whisper.

Noshiko understood, knowing that Lucian's mother was a Kitsune. She looked at his face and body. 'Although Kitsunes are more handsome and beautiful than mortal men, what is this?' she thought, confused. Lucian was more handsome and beautiful than every kitsune she saw even his mother.

Deaton, observing Lucian's pointed ears, thought, 'He certainly looks like one,' agreeing with Mika's assessment but knowing that Noshiko was more likely right.

"Why isn't he waking up?" Kim Yoo-ri asked, turning, her hand pressed against her chest, as if to steady her heart. 'What the hell,' she thought, stunned by the sudden transformation.

Deaton frowned but turned to Satomi, who was beaming with relief that Lucian was okay. "Maybe he just needs a little push."

Satomi, understanding what he meant, smiled. Her Iris turned red, as she roared at Lucian her voice echoing through the forest.

"RAWWWRR!"

Lucian sat up, his irises now silver, his pupils black but when he heard Satomi's roar, his pupils transformed, glowing a bright golden yellow.

"NO!" Lucian yelled, his first words after waking.

He looked at the sky, saw the sun, a new day, new changes, new possibilities. But his heart was breaking. This new day meant a new day without Cortana.
