Chapter 6 Mount crimson

The journey had been long, and the group was beginning to feel the strain of traversing an unforgiving landscape. The dense forest behind them gave way to rocky terrain, the air growing colder with each step forward. Small talk among the group filled the silence as they pressed on, their breaths forming faint clouds in the crisp air.

"So, Jasper," Leon began, breaking the silence, "how are you finding this charming little planet so far? Loving the scenic views of beasts trying to eat you alive?"

Jasper smirked faintly. "Oh, it's wonderful. Truly. Who needs a cozy bed or basic safety when you've got constant danger and strange moons?"

Alex laughed, his voice lightening the mood. "Hey, at least you've got us to guide you. Imagine trying to survive out here alone. You'd probably have ended up as dinner for a purple howler!"

Jessica rolled her eyes. "Alex, you're not exactly the poster child for survival skills yourself. If it weren't for us keeping you in check, you'd have gotten us all killed by now."

"Harsh," Alex retorted with mock offense, nudging her playfully.

Natasha, walking silently beside Jasper, glanced over at him. "You're adapting quickly, though," she said softly. "Not many people would handle their first day here as well as you have."

"Thanks," Jasper replied, surprised by the warmth in her tone. "Though I'm not sure if it's adaptability or sheer luck keeping me alive."

"Or both," Mr. John chimed in from the back, his hands tucked in his pockets. "Doesn't matter. You're still breathing, or whatever."

Natasha suppressed a smile, the corner of her lips twitching upward.

The conversation faded as the terrain began to change. The rocky ground turned a deep crimson, and the temperature seemed to rise, a faint heat emanating from the earth itself. The group stopped as they reached the base of a massive mountain. Its peaks seemed to scrape the green-tinged sky, and its slopes glowed faintly with an unnatural red light.

Leon turned to address the group, his expression uncharacteristically serious. "This is Mount Crimson," he announced.

"Whoa," Alex muttered, craning his neck to take in the massive structure.

"It's not just a mountain," Leon continued, ignoring Alex's awe. "This place was formed thousands of years ago when a red meteor struck this planet. The impact was catastrophic, killing countless creatures that lived here. Their souls were absorbed by the meteor's remnants, which eventually became this mountain."

Jasper frowned. "So, the mountain's… alive?"

"Not exactly," Leon replied. "But the energy from those souls lingers, saturating this place. It's why the beasts here are so powerful. They're drawn to the mountain's energy, feeding off it. That's what makes this place so dangerous."

Jessica's brow furrowed. "If it's so dangerous, why are we crossing it? Surely there's another way."

"There is," Leon admitted. "But it would take weeks, and time isn't on our side. This is the fastest route to Phoenix Town."

Natasha gazed up at the glowing peaks, her expression unreadable. "So, we just need to be careful, right?"

"Exactly," Leon said, his tone firm. "Stay alert, stay close, and above all, stay quiet. Loud noises could attract the creatures living here, and trust me, we don't want that."

Alex, as usual, couldn't resist breaking the tension. "What kind of creatures? Big scary ones? Or little guys that hide in the shadows?"

Leon shot him a warning look. "You'll find out soon enough if you keep talking."

"Or whatever," Mr. John muttered, his tone flat as he adjusted his backpack.

The group began their ascent, the path narrow and treacherous. The rocks beneath their feet were warm to the touch, and faint wisps of golden light occasionally rose from the ground, vanishing into the air.

"This place feels… alive," Jasper remarked, his voice low.

"It kind of is," Natasha replied. "It's like the mountain is breathing."

Jessica nodded. "And we're walking straight into its lungs. Great."

For a while, the group moved in tense silence, the only sounds the crunch of rocks beneath their boots and the occasional gust of wind. But the quiet was too much for Alex.

"This is incredible!" he exclaimed, his voice echoing across the slopes. "I mean, look at this place! It's like we're walking through a storybook or something!"

Jessica grabbed his arm, her eyes wide with panic. "Alex! Keep your voice down!"

But the damage was done.

A deep rumble shook the ground, followed by a guttural roar that made the air vibrate. The group froze, their eyes darting toward the source of the sound.

From above, a massive crimson dragon descended, its two heads snarling as flames flickered from its mouths. Its molten scales glowed like fresh lava, and its red eyes burned with fury as it fixed its gaze on the intruders.

Leon stepped forward, his voice steady. "Stay calm and stay together. Don't panic."

The dragon roared again, each head unleashing a stream of fire that scorched the ground near them. The group scattered, diving for cover behind boulders and ledges.

Leon clenched his fists, his eyes narrowing as he focused his ivon energy. "Get behind me!" he shouted.

The group obeyed, retreating as Leon stepped forward. Flames began to swirl around his hand, growing brighter and hotter until they formed a massive orb of red and gold energy. The heat was intense, distorting the air around him.

"Scorching Sunblast!" Leon roared, thrusting his hand forward.

The orb shot toward the dragon, striking one of its heads with devastating force. The head exploded in a shower of golden light, and the dragon screeched in agony. The energy began to spread, consuming the creature's massive body.

The dragon's remaining head thrashed wildly, but it was no match for the overwhelming power of Leon's attack. Within moments, the entire creature disintegrated into golden particles, which rose into the air and were absorbed by the mountain

Leon lowered his hand, breathing heavily. The group emerged from their hiding places, shaken but unharmed.

"That was… intense," Jasper said, his voice filled with awe.

Leon smirked faintly. "That's why I said to stay quiet."

Alex looked down, guilt written all over his face. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to—"

Jessica sighed, placing a hand on his shoulder. "Just be more careful next time. This isn't a game."

Natasha gazed at the spot where the dragon had been, her expression thoughtful. "That was no ordinary creature," she said quietly.

"It wasn't," Leon agreed. "The energy here attracts the strongest beasts. This is just the beginning."

Mr. John shrugged, his tone as indifferent as ever. "Or whatever."

Leon gestured for the group to follow. "We still have a long way to go. Let's move."

As they continued their ascent, the haunting glow of Mount Crimson cast eerie shadows around them, a constant reminder of the dangers that lay ahead.
