Lightning Doesn't Strike Twice!

Chapter 9: Chapter 9

Chapter 9

It was Beck telling me to get better soon and that she tried to stop by earlier and I was sleeping. I will come by after school. Alright, I hung up the phone.

I thought I had seen Evan or someone who looked similar, like him at least.

A lot of people changed from elementary to high school look at me so maybe that's why I couldn't quite put my finger on him.

Becky came to see me while I was in the hospital.

At the time a nurse was aiding my wounds.

Hello Beck, how do you feel? Ha, you talking about me, Are you okay? Yes, they said, today might be my last day here in the hospital. It depends on if I have healed enough from a couple of rib breaks and blood loss.

After physical therapy started I have almost made a full recovery.

Miss. Moon "my last name", take it easy for a bit more, you're looking pretty good, the nurse aide as she left the room.

Now that we are alone glancing at the shut door. For real; how are feeling any better? I saw her raising an eyebrow.

As already answered that question.

I feel like I can now safely ask you if the nurse left we are alone. I thought you were being tough

Do you even remember how you got your injuries at least? If you are trying to get me to open up. What's going on Beck, it's no sweat. And yes, I remember the boar Soulless and the fight I had with it.

I know it may be hard to talk about. I figured you needed to talk to someone about it. I am still missing something. So ask way I will try to fill in the blanks.

Okay, so what was that thing you said, a Soulless?

Yes, that is correct. They have no emotions left they lost their way. They are the primal instincts of our spiritual animal selves.

When someone dies If that someone stays in limbo for too long they get attacked by demons they could be turned into a soulless. Or turned by another soulless removing their soul tie can turn them to. Bad people turn when they die automatically because they're damned by their ways.

I am a waymaker. I can see spirits and my job is to stop soulless from harming or possessing the people living. I can see spirits and I have a sixth sense anytime they enter our realm.

So Kaysi You help people here on earth?

Yes, I sure do.

Wow, that's great I never knew. So how do you become a waymaker?

Well, some are born being a seer of spirits, and some of those people are trained as waymakers.

I have trained for quite some time. Although I just unlocked and gained my full-born sword ability to be able to attack. Before I just watched from the sidelines and used some protection and repel techniques.

Also, that was technically the first battle I was actually in and I wasn't very prepared.

Oh, Kaysi that wasn't a very smart idea on your part. I know but it was all I could do to help. I couldn't just stand back and watch. Plus if I didn't you wouldn't be here. That is true.

(Beck's backpack began to move.)

While you too are talking it would have been nice if you got me out of here.

Baby! Why are you in Beck's backpack? Because I wanted to see you and talk with you also. Animals were not allowed in the hospital.

Oh, boy I haven't even got out of the hospital and you are going to yell at me? Yes and no she, chuckled.

I need to tell you what you did was dumb and was respectfully brilliant.

What me and Beck said in unison…?

It takes a skilled Waymaker to form the sword with your spirit energy.

Really? Okay, so what do we learn next?

Kaysi, "You can't be serious Beck said". Are you looking to kill yourself?

Given the right tools, I did fight and take down that boar so why not? It was a lower leveled soulless but you barely knew how to hold the sword's form let alone use its powers.

The sword you have is called a crane. It is made for you to carry it in its lower form known as a feather. That way it is a small inconspicuous shape that is concealed, easy to carry, and ready for quick use when needed.

In resting mode, it is called a resting crane and still can be used but not strongly. It is normally used on weaker enemies. When you learn your sword's true power it will become stronger turning into a soaring crane when called out.

So there is a feather, then a resting crane is a second and the soaring crane is it fully awakened form.

Yes Beck that's right. Oh, I get it now.

Now to move on to the address the other elephant in the room.

Beck, what did you see that day? Oh yeah, you don't have to worry about me. I won't be telling anyone like I said I already said, it was a pack of wild boars.

I need to point out also the fact that you could see the monsters too.

Although you do not have a guardian like me? An animal like you?

Yes, that's correct.

No, I don't have any animals I used to have a pet cat.

"Okay well" cough, I am more than a common house pet. I am a full-blown angel Placed into an animal vessel to hide my identity while I train her.

But Beck, you need to know your friendship with her puts you at risk.

Kaysi, you must choose to put her in danger or not. You can keep her as a friend or you can't see each other ever again from here on out.

I am sorry but Kaysi can't be given a choice like that. It is unfair to give anyone a choice like that.

Even though we have known each other only for 3 years aka since middle school. I know she would just end our relationship. Making herself miserable just to protect me.

If that is the case then are willing to grow your strength and knowledge to save yourself if the time should come. At the most protect yourself and don't get in harm's way. Because you could get her into danger for having to babysit you as well.

That was a bit harsh.

Well, my job to protect mankind and is to help and grow her abilities.

Well, baby said, I have never heard of anyone having to deal with the two-waymakers in training, so this may take some time.

Let's see you can see spirits so you could still equip yourself to protect yourself but I am not sure you're about your fighting skills.

As you have seen Kaysi was not supposed to get hers for another 2 years.

Oh, I am a year older and I am okay with whatever it takes.

I am getting discharged later today, so would you like to go get an ice cream?

Kaysi, I think we should get you home in one piece and rest. That being said I will save your offer for a rainy day. Ha.

After getting home I guess, I was still a little restless because I went straight to sleep right after Beck left.

The next day Micah was talking about my hospital stay. I had to make something up on the spot I didn't realize how long I was really in there. True-fully I was not ready for people and to have to answer any questions they asked.

By lunch time other people got to talking. I don't think that this many people knew me or worried about me. It was heartwarming even if it was for a moment.

I was expecting any thanks from anyone.

The story went I saved Beck from a pack of wild boars. I got the wound from pushing her out of the way. For now, I could hold on to this moment that people cared for me.

I may ask myself why I am fighting for a living and need encouragement.

I did get bullied a lot growing up so this was a nice change of pace.

A week later things died down and it was the next semester. Micah and I had a gym together. So we decided that day we would go to lunch together from here on out too.

When we caught up to Beck we told her the plan.

We all agreed to go to the outside lunch tables together to eat and hang out. School lunch sucked of course sometimes they served some cheap canned meat stuff with pasta mixed in a bitter vinaigrette.

Beck would almost always bring her lunch her mom would have packed for her.

I started talking to our little group now we are in high school. My mom is starting to let up some of her holds allowing me to venture out more.

So.. I thought Christmas was around the corner and I still needed to get presents for everyone. Maybe do white elephant a secret exchange.

How about you? Well, I only have a few items Beck said cheerfully.

Kaysi, you still haven't got anything? You sure are good at saving things to the last minute, aren't you?

I know, I like to save up and get ideas from everyone first. Mmmm…Fair enough. Micah, How about you?

I had so much to do this month, so I have already got everything and even wrapped them and placed them under the tree. Wow Micah, way to go. Look at you, being an overachiever.

Well Kaysi, I figured we could at least go to the mall then since Micah is all caught up. We get some ice cream my treat and we can get any of our remaining gifts.

That sounds great Kaysi, I will check with my mom.

I have some more work to do at home so I will have to catch you guys later.

Okay, see you later Micah.

Beck, "Is it just me" or Micah has been dodging us lately. Nah she just has been busier than normal.

Yeah, you're probably right I am just overthinking it too much.

Going to the mall I enjoyed looking at the decorations, the tall trees with lights everywhere, and the large ornaments. Each year they choose a color theme for the decor. This year is gold and metallic red. The lights draped across the beams of the ceiling.

There were Christmas trees at every intersection of the mall.

The best part is the holiday cheer of all the employees. Some wore little Xmas headbands, ugly sweaters, and large-spirited smiles. Some of them wore full costumes like Santa's elf or Christmas pajamas.

Some shoppers are dressed the same way with there Christmas cheer.

They even had carolers placed in the mall and floated from store to store giving Christmas cheer with their singing.

And the cherry on top of all this fiesta is Santa Claus in the middle of it all sitting in his big chair.

I even talked Beck into a photo with Santa.

When we got done we walked to my house.

It was close enough and she could get a ride back when my brother older would take her after he got off work.

As we turned to corner past the pack by my house It began to snow hard.

Beck, don't you think it's pretty how the lights make the snow sparkle?

(POW!!!)
