Chapter 16: Human History 1
Back in his room, Kieran walked out of the shower and the small box he had retrieved from the MPO earlier came into his field of vision.
'I totally forgot about this.'
He thought silently.
"I wonder who would send a parcel to me."
He muttered to himself, while picking up the package.
He didn't pay much attention to the package earlier. Inspecting the small box in his hand, he noticed a writing on a paper attached to it.
"After we cleared out all the rubble, we came across the contents inside the box. It was kept in hidden compartment in the ground."
"The compartment was damaged due to the rubble, if not we would have never found this. This parcel seems to be specifically to you since your name was engraved on it. Don't worry, we didn't take a look inside."
Staring at the writing which was straight to the point just like the detective who Kieran assumed to have written it, a small smile appeared on his face without him noticing.
Tearing the top of the box open, because it felt like it was easier than having to go out to get a knife, the contents inside were exposed.
There was a single item sitting in the box. Taking it out to get a better look at it, Kieran instantly knew why the detective said they hadn't taken a look inside.
The box was sealed very tightly, even the gaps between the joints weren't visible. Like the detective said in the piece of paper, the words, "For Kieran", were engraved roughly on the metal casing which was around the size of a thick book.
Shaking the box, a little to see if could get an idea of what was inside, Kieran wondered how he was going to open it up.
'This is a waste of time.'
He reasoned, dropping the box on the table at the corner of the room, finding his way back to his bed to get some sleep.
....
MONDAY, 7:20 AM
A week passed by in a flash, nothing new had happened since he got the mail which he still had no idea how to open and he went about each day as usual and he spent more time in the library, totally absorbed in the amount of information laying dead there.
The place was mostly empty. At the end of the week, he had a chat with Leora and she reminded him of the things to look out for, acting like a real big sister. She even took his contact id becoming the first person he had ever shared contact info with.
Walking back from the mountain top where they had their daily drills, Kieran walked to the first class of the week. Now that their free week had ended, they were sent a schedule for their classes. The first class was in the same location as the one they had before with the instructor named Selena.
The instructors in charge of the morning drills had been lenient, they didn't want them arriving at their first proper class with broken bones and swollen faces.
Thinking of that, Kieran was reminded of his days in his school at Crane city and how frequently he got cracked bones and swollen face. Shaking his head to disperse those thoughts, he stepped into the class that was already half-filled, he took a seat in the corner at the far end of the class.
A few minutes later, when the class was completely filled, the instructor who was going to be taking them stepped in and the person just happened to be one they were familiar with, Instructor Selena.
She stood at a height of 5'6'' with long black hair which she had tied into a ponytail, her green eyes sparkling like gemstones. She was dressed in the usual soldier uniform but even that couldn't conceal her nice body shape as she walked to the front of the class.
Before she could commence the class, a kid with bright red hair and an arrogant expression that showed that he didn't want to be here walked in garnering the attention of the whole class and the instructor.
"Late on your first day I see. Identify yourself!"
Instructor Selena ordered in a frigid tone wiping of the arrogant expression of Richards face.
...….
He didn't want to be here. After he got here a week ago, Richard had gone through a series of tests and apart from that, he did nothing besides frequenting the gym which was an habit he had gotten from the training that had been drilled into his body. He couldn't get rid of it even if he wanted to.
All he could think of was the face of the boy who placed him in his current predicament, Kieran.
Words weren't capable of expressing the hate and rage he felt towards him, the only relief he felt was when he hit his punching bag while imagining his face on it, but that didn't do much.
The odds that he would ever cross paths with that low life was abysmal, their path in life was totally different, too far apart.
A week had passed and he now had to join the recruits in their classes, making his way to the first class, he was aware that he was late, but only by a few minutes, who would care?
'I just hope time runs faster during this class.'
Richard thought while stepping in to meet a fully seated class staring at him.
'Hmm, what's with them?'
wondered Richard as he felt the stiff atmosphere.
"Late on your first day I see. Identify yourself!"
A cold voice that sent shivers down his spine came from his side.
Turning towards the source of the voice, he saw the instructor staring at him, it felt like she could take his life at any moment, for the first time he felt fear from someone other than his father or personal instructor.
Subconsciously, he answered her question.
"Richard Scarlet"
He said, still in a daze.
"The Scarlet kid huh? I really expected more, take a sit. I'm not punishing you, but the next time you pull something like this off, it won't end so easily."
She stated and Richard could feel that she meant every word she said.
Taking an empty sit in the middle of the class, his face held down, red from embarrassment. What he didn't know was how many more moments like this he was going to encounter.
After taking care of the slight disturbance, instructor Selena commenced the class. Meanwhile, at the corner of the class, a dark cloud could be seen hovering over Kieran's head as he stared intently at Richard, his gaze filled with intense hate, the anger he had managed to put under control slowly slipping.
'What the f*ck is that bastard doing here?'
Kieran thought, his vision going red, his anger slowly turning into bloodlust without him noticing.
Feeling interrupted for the second time in one class was getting her in a sour mood as Selena looked towards the place she felt the bloodlust that made her pause.
Sending a cold glare to the student who immediately got the warning, she resumed her class.
The cold glare from the instructor hit him like cold water, bringing him back from the edge.
'I almost lost it there. I can worry about that bastard later, if he manages to survive long enough'
Kieran thought, returning his focus back to his class.
"I'll start with the history you all know and have been fed since the moment you were born"
She started, telling the history with some modifications they had never heard of.
"A century ago, humankind was involved in a global scale war with each and every country fighting against each other."
" The UN which was put into place after the previous wars which had almost escalated to a global scale had broken apart and the world powerhouses of then; America, China, Russia and Germany were at the forefront of this conflict."
"The cause of this conflict? No one knew. Declarations of war were suddenly announced in countries along with the countries being put in an emergency of war. Not only that, humanity was suspected to be fighting against not only themselves, but also against an extra-terrestrial race."
"The validity of this suspicions remains unknown, known only to those at the highest power ranking of the major countries."
"Amidst the century long war which had put earth into an apocalyptic state rose 5 exceptional individuals who managed to bring the war to a stalemate."
"They managed the impossible and brought the war to a stop with their exceptional, outstanding and unknown prowess. The major powers ceased the war and for a moment it seemed like there was an external power that had intervened."
"The threat to humanity was not over though. The pervious speculation of an alien race with hostile intention against mankind was proved though with the appearance of the huge shadow of what was later known as a star ship was cast over the earth."
"With no one knowing how they did it and another void in history, humanity managed to survive obtaining technology lightyears ahead of what they currently possessed along with the rise of 4 other individuals, ushering humanity into a new age of extreme technological advancement and extra-terrestrial exploration."
"The 9 individuals of unknown names who rose up when humanity needed help the most settled down and established 9 families and formed a council of ten chairs to take control and govern humanity, preventing them from falling into another war like the one just ended."
"The military which had survived the onslaught of the war occupied the tenth seat completing the council which was later known to the citizens of earth simply as the WORLD GOVERNMENT which governed the whole of humanity."
