Lost Origins: SS Ranked Awakening

Chapter 17: Human History 2

The instructor's version of the events that turned humanity around had piqued Kieran's interest, especially the part about the alien ship. He had never heard about it in any of the previous history lessons.

All they talked about was about the nine founding fathers, as they called them, rose up and stopped the war, helping humanity attain peace and rapid technological advancement.

Although, there had been speculations and people asking questions as to how humans suddenly advanced so rapidly, no one payed them any heed.

'If something as huge as a star ship that cast a shadow above the earth appeared, then how come no one talks about it. It's like they don't even remember.'

Kieran thought in confusion.

"No one knows what really happened back then or what the founding fathers did to make anyone forget, but only the military, the founding fathers' lineage and some others know of this."

She commented and Kieran looked around only to notice that some recruits like the blue-haired girl, some others and even Richard didn't share the surprise of the rest.

'Didn't know his background was that special.'

Kieran wondered.

"Here, we let you know somethings as soldiers and if you want to know, you'd need more authority"

She stated.

She finished up the class with a lesson about the military system. Although they were now recruits, most of them had just finished high school and came here directly, skipping college.

Despite the fact that coming here, meant they wanted to become soldiers, the military still saw it fit to offer them something other than military education. They were allowed to take the courses they would have taken, had they gone to college.

This was put in place because of the commoners and other low levelled civilians who emend up leaving after the two-year mandatory service, to prevent them from being job less when they left.

According to the records, most of those who left the camp ended up becoming private security personnel while the rest turned out jobless, so, this was an effective countermeasure to prevent that from happening.

Kieran had never really thought about what he was going to do after he left the camp. To him, there was still a long way before that happens and he still had time to decide.

The class ended on a good note with everyone satisfied with her teaching. Stepping out of the class, Kieran was stopped by the instructor, Selena, leaving the two of them alone in the empty classroom.

"Earlier, you released a slight amount of murderous intent towards the Scarlet kid and you didn't seem to be aware."

She started, Kieran's face slightly lowered.

"If I hadn't made you snap out of it, you would have pounced on him. I looked into every single one of you before I came to the class, including the both of you."

"So, I understand the reason behind your hostility, but it will be impossible for him to act like he wishes here, so you shouldn't worry. I'm asking you to let big things become small."

She finally declared in a tone that didn't give room for negotiation.

'You're basically threatening me! What choice do I have?'

Kieran thought, accepting Instructor Selena's 'suggestion' before heading out to the venue of the next class which turned out to be the sports centre.

Displayed on their watches, the class was going to be a physical test to document information.

Rushing over, he managed to catch up with the end of the class. A few minutes later, they arrived at the sports centre. It was Kieran's first time of being there, despite hearing the recruits talking about it.

Arriving at the complex which looked huge from the outside, Kieran followed the crowd across its corridors making their way to what happened to be a massively spaced gym.

The gym was currently empty of people, all the equipment arranged at the to the side creating a large space in the middle where a soldier stood with his back facing them.

"You should always arrange yourselves as soldiers, weren't you taught that?"

He questioned in a lazy tone and the recruits fell into position in seconds, even Richard had no problem fitting in.

Turning around to face them, they could finally have a view of his face, not that there was much to see. He wore a black mask that covered the lower half of his face, while his eyes were hidden by his long hair.

The only thing Kieran could notice was the sharp glint in his eyes which was a contrast to the dark eyebags that were slightly visible and his lazy voice.

"74 huh? That's a lot, I hope they last longer than the previous ones."

He muttered to himself while inspecting them, taking his precious time.

"So…. I'm the one in charge of your physical and combat training…."

He started in a bored tone.

"So…. today, we'll be starting off with a basic physical test….so I can know what level you are and make a corresponding training plan for each of you."

He said, taking pauses in between.

"This is hard...Ahem! So, we'll be going through some…. I already said that. What I meant to say, is for you to go change your clothes, your uniforms aren't suitable for the exercises"

He explained, pointing in the direction of the locker rooms for males and females.

Walking inside, Kieran noticed that the lockers bore the names of the recruits on them. Locating the locker with his name on it, Kieran noticed the name on the locker next to him.

'Richard Scarlet'

'I really have shitty luck'

He thought with a dark look on his face.

Taking out the training suit, put it on as fast as he could. He wasn't really ready for a confrontation with Richard, he didn't think he could adhere to instructor Selena's advice and not act out.

Turning around, he came face to face with the person he had been hoping not to meet.

Richard stared at the face he that had been tormenting his dreams, the reason why he was in this hell. Every day, he had imagined how he would pummel the face in front of him and the thought that they would never cross paths again only fuelled his hate.

Staring at the source of the unfortunate condition he was currently in, a series of emotion passed through him, visible on his face.

Looking at Richard who was staring at him with an expression of shock, then confusion before settling on anger, Kieran felt helpless on how to resolve his current predicament.

Feeling the anger burning intensely, Richard rushed out, throwing the punch he had practised over and over again directly at Kieran's face. Dodging the punch headed towards his face, Kieran grabbed Richards collar and pulled him closer, trying to speak to him.

Before he could utter a single word, Richard landed a solid headbutt, a savage expression on his face.

Anger surfacing on Kieran's face, he loosened his grip on his collar and grabbed his neck, slamming him on the locker before throwing back a punch.

BAM!

Managing to control himself at the last moment, his fist landed on the locker a few centimetres away from Richard's face which still held a savage expression.

"Are you crazy? Where the fuck do you think you are? As much as I want to beat you to a pulp right now, I'm definitely not intent on breaking the camp's rules."

Kieran shouted into Richard's face with an equally savage expression. Looking into his eyes, Richard replied in a calm tone entirely different from his savage expression.

"Let go of me."

Letting go of his throat and removing his fist from the locker which revealed a deep dent, Richard walked away while dropping a few words in the empty locker room.

"Don't expect me to back off next time."

Although he was a bully and acted like a brute, Richard was a noble, an intelligent one at that and he knew how to act like one in cases like this.

Glancing at the dent he left on the locker, Kieran left to join the others in the gym. Back in the gym, the recruits had just gathered and were arranging themselves, so they didn't notice Richard and Kieran, but the instructor faintly glanced at the two students with red marks on their heads without them noticing.

"Alright. Now that you're all dressed up for the training, I'll proceed to telling you about the first test"

He said with a yawn.

"You'll be running a distance of 5 miles around the racing track. For better understanding, that means you'd be running a total of twenty laps and thirty-six metres."

Hearing of the distance, a deep frown appeared on the faces of Kieran and the others, it was extreme.

'Is he trying to kill us?'

Kieran had the same thought as the rest.

"Ohh, I forgot to mention. You will be running with weights attached to your wrists, legs and tyres attached to your backs."

He revealed with a wide smile shown through his mask, taking delight in their pale faces and expressions of worry.
