In a narrow, pitch-dark cement room, Fox-Eyes was completely restrained and thrown onto the damp floor.
He couldn’t move or speak, only able to sense his existence in the world when he was fed nutrient solution, rather than being tossed into a black hole by the Zerg in a fit of rage.
Fox-Eyes didn’t know how long he had been locked up, but in this sensory-deprived state, with no one to talk to, an itchy back he couldn’t scratch, and only fixed times each day to drink water, he could only quietly await the Zerg’s interrogation. His nerves were on the brink of collapse.
With a ‘clang’, the tightly sealed iron door was opened.
Light—sunlight he hadn’t seen in a long time!
Fox-Eyes stretched his neck and struggled towards the incoming light, but his hands and feet were bound, making him squirm on the floor like a big bug.
Fox-Eyes thought he had been imprisoned by Zerg soldiers in some old dungeon on Earth.
But he was still on the advanced Zerg starship. The major general had ordered his subordinates to adjust the room to a ‘sensory deprivation’ mode, making him think he had been handed over to the humans on Earth.
The sound of firm leather boots echoed on the cement floor. The person walked unhurriedly around Fox-Eyes, finally stopping behind him.
“Take him to the interrogation room.” The man’s deep voice broke the silence, and Fox-Eyes realized it was the Zerg major general he had previously tried to assassinate.
This was bad. Just by the look of things, he knew this Zerg major general was not as easy to deal with as that male Zerg.
Fox-Eyes was released from his shackles by the Zerg soldiers and half-pushed, half-dragged into a room.
Inside was just a table and two chairs. There seemed to be a problem with the pipes in the wall, as he could faintly hear the ‘drip-drip’ of water.
A blinding light suddenly shone from the wall facing Fox-Eyes, directly hitting his eyes that hadn’t seen light for a long time.
Rhys sat on a chair opposite the man, saying nothing, just waiting as the light gradually invaded the man’s eyes.
Soon, those eyes were bloodshot and streaming with tears from the irritation.
“What do you want?” Fox-Eyes slurred, his tongue having been cut off by the male Zerg, and now it seemed his eyes wouldn’t survive either.
“Name?” Rhys took off his leather gloves and placed them on the table, dimming the light significantly.
“Mmf… Chi.” His severed tongue had become red and inflamed without treatment, making speaking extremely painful.
“Who hired you? 5 million star coins must come from a wealthy merchant.” Rhys disliked using techniques to entice during interrogation, preferring to get straight to the point.
Rhys’s direct question stunned Fox-Eyes, but he still hesitated to answer.
The funds of interstellar pirates came from robbing interstellar travel starships or taking on shady tasks.
On various planets, there were political and business figures who, in their gray worlds, encountered competitors they wanted to eliminate. For things they couldn’t handle themselves, they’d find drifting interstellar pirates, pay them a hefty sum, and the pirates would take care of their problems.
The gray industry of mutual benefit has existed for thousands of years.
One reason interstellar pirates can maintain long-term relationships with these clients is that, regardless of the mission’s success, the pirates never betray their employers or buyers.
Moreover, if a mission fails and a pirate faces capture, they choose to end their own life to protect their employer’s information.
“I… I can’t say.” Fox-Eyes cradled his head in his hands, his voice mingling with painful groans.
He couldn’t break the rules set by the pirates and was terrified of being confined in the ‘sensory deprivation’ cell again. He even started to envy his companions who were directly shot through the heart.
With a wave of Rhys’s hand, the light became blinding once more. Fox-Eyes tried to shield his eyes from the piercing light, but its intensity was too strong, easily penetrating his skin to torment his eyeballs.
“Think again.”
Rhys didn’t expect to get the answer he wanted with just one question. However, according to his usual methods, the suffering for this pirate was just beginning.
“I’ll ask one more time: who is the buyer behind this?” Rhys’s tone grew much harsher, causing the Zerg soldiers monitoring the interrogation to spring from their seats into a military stance.
They felt fortunate to be on the same side as the major general. It was unimaginable how painful it would be to be on the receiving end of his interrogation.
A Zerg soldier shivered. He vowed never to stand against the major general and kept his eyes glued to the monitor screen.
“I have all the time in the world, but it seems you don’t…” Rhys extended his index finger, directing Fox-Eyes’ gaze to follow.
Damn, when did this happen?
A needle was inserted into his femoral artery, and his arterial blood was dripping through the tube onto the floor, forming a small pool of blood.
The sound he heard after sitting down wasn’t water from a broken pipe but his own blood dripping onto the ground.
The major general’s interrogation had lasted at least half an hour, and the blood had formed a small puddle. If this continued, he would bleed to death.
In the silent room, knowing he was going to die but not knowing exactly when, all he could do was helplessly await death.
It felt like walking on a straight path where a large pit cut off the road ahead. A force pushed him forward, making him take steps toward death, knowing the abyss lay ahead.
Fear swept over him.
At that moment, Rhys stood up, seemingly ready to end the interrogation.
This move was the final straw.
Fox-Eyes, ignoring the pain in his tongue, cried out, “Please, don’t go! I’ll talk, I’ll talk.”
It worked. Rhys stopped. The pirate’s spirit was broken, and from that moment, he would answer any question Rhys asked.
“When I ask, you answer. Once I’m done asking questions, I’ll remove this tube for you. If you die from blood loss because you tried to stall, there’s nothing I can do.”
“Yes, yes.” Fox-Eyes nodded repeatedly, not daring to think about stalling. He just wished Rhys would quickly finish asking his questions.
“Who is the buyer?”
“The buyer always contacts the captain directly. We just follow the captain’s orders.” Fox-Eyes hurried to add, afraid Rhys might leave again. “However, once when the captain was drunk, he mentioned that the buyer who offered 5 million star coins is also a high-ranking Zerg male and definitely not short on money.”
A male zerg? In the Zerg society, Rhys rarely interacted with other males and certainly didn’t dare to offend the distinguished male zergs easily.
There was only one male, from the Qi family, that he and his master had jointly offended and who might want to cause trouble for them on Earth.
“How was the deposit paid?”
Such tasks of killing and looting aren’t just talked about; a deposit of more than half the amount needs to be paid for the pirates to act. Once the task is executed, they bring back the target’s “head” as proof before collecting the remaining amount.
“The male zerg and the captain had a transaction account, but it was a temporary account.”
“Do you remember the account number?”
“Yes, it should be xxxxxxxxx.”
Temporary accounts are difficult to trace back to the owner, but it doesn’t mean it’s impossible. One of Rhys’s tasks over the years was following the general to investigate Zerg residents using temporary accounts for transactions. He was confident in this area.
Rhys’s instincts told him that the male zerg who hired the hit was his own father—Qi Lun.
“Take him away.”
Rhys pulled the needle out of Fox-Eyes’ thigh and taped the wound with medical adhesive. Only then did the arterial bleeding stop.
“Send this account to Jack through a secure message, and also send him today’s interrogation footage.”
“Yes, Major General.”
Interrogating a prisoner is not only exhausting for the prisoner but also requires the interrogator to stay on edge. It often leaves them mentally and physically drained afterward.
Only after all the Zerg soldiers had left did Rhys dare to show his fatigue. He rubbed his temples and slumped in his chair.
“Where’s your Major General Rhys?” He Qin grabbed a somewhat familiar-looking Zerg soldier in the corridor.
The Zerg soldier blushed at the sight of the male zerg holding his hand and stammered, “The Major General is… is in the interrogation room.”
“Thanks, brother.”
Focused solely on Rhys, He Qin didn’t realize the person in front of him was “female.” He cheerfully patted the soldier on the shoulder and walked towards the interrogation room.
The interrogation room had one-way glass, and upon entering, He Qin saw Rhys’s exhausted state through it.
How could such a small interrogation tire him out like this?
He Qin walked into the room and replaced Rhys’s fingers, which had been pressing his temples until they turned red, with his own. He placed his four fingers together on the female Zerg’s temples, “What’s wrong?”
As Rhys’ closest lover, he could feel that what left Rhys feeling so powerless wasn’t the interrogation, but something more significant.
“I think the one who wants to kill you might be my male father,” Rhys said, pressing his head into the palm of He Qin’s hand.
He Qin’s hand stroked Rhys’s silver hair. “Are you sure?”
“There’s no concrete evidence yet. We’ll have to catch the pirate leader to be certain.” However, it was almost certain that the mastermind was Qi Lun.
He Qin comforted him, “Without evidence, nothing is certain. Don’t worry too much.”
Rhys had never been valued by the Qi family since he was a child. He earned his military merits and became a major general through his own efforts, but his male father still treated him as a bargaining chip.
He should have given up on any filial feelings for Qi Lun long ago, but upon learning that it might be Qi Lun who wanted to kill his master, he couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed.
“Male lord, if it really is Qi Lun…” In that moment, countless doubts filled Rhys’s mind.
If it really was Qi Lun, would his master blame him? Would his master despise the little egg with Qi family blood?
“What nonsense are you thinking now?” He Qin curled his fingers and tapped the major general’s head with his knuckles. “Qi Lun is Qi Lun, and you are you. You are an independent individual. I won’t think differently of you because of this.”
Sigh, it seemed he still hadn’t worked hard enough to rid Rhys of such terrible thoughts.
“Master… mm…”
Suddenly, He Qin lifted Rhys’s head and lowered his own, kissing Rhys on the lips.
The still-running surveillance cameras recorded their passionate kiss from multiple angles, capturing every detail.
Author’s Note: On this day!
Jack received an account number and a video sent through the major general’s private message.
He sneaked away from the other Zerg and went to his secret little room at home to open the video.
After watching the interrogation video attentively, he didn’t close the video in time.
Thus, he saw his major general being kissed until he was weak all over by the little male.
“No, Major General, you’ve all gone to Earth, and you still have to hurt me like this?”
