Chapter 2: Chapter 2 Meeting Carol Danvers
Beside him, Loki watched Thor's expressions shift wildly, as if his face had become a live emoji reel. He opened his mouth to tease but stopped when a soldier entered the hall, bowing deeply before speaking.
"Your Majesty, Lord Heimdall has detected an unidentified presence on Midgard. It seems related to the Kree and Skrulls. He instructed me to report immediately."
Odin leaned back, unperturbed. "Neither the Kree nor the Skrulls are significant threats. Their war has no bearing on Asgard."
As the All-Father, Odin understood secrets others couldn't fathom. Midgard, nominally under Asgard's protection, was no ordinary realm. With Kamar-Taj standing guard, even a figure as imposing as Ronan the Accuser posed no real danger. Still, Odin's calm demeanor belied his vigilance. Asgard's legacy was at stake, and any intrusion into Midgard deserved at least a semblance of attention.
Thor's heart raced. The plot had begun. However, he knew this specific event offered little to gain.
The Tesseract would eventually come to Asgard, and the Kree's "advanced" technology paled compared to Asgard's medieval aesthetic concealing cosmic-level advancements. But Thor saw an opportunity, one rooted in strategy and foresight.
Still, Thor wanted to intervene. The reasons were twofold: Earth would soon be the epicenter of countless monumental events, and this was the perfect chance to befriend Carol Danvers before her transformation into Captain Marvel. Building that bond early could be invaluable—strategically and personally.
He straightened, his expression serious. "Father, allow me to go to Midgard. As one of the Nine Realms, it is Asgard's duty to address incursions. Our presence alone will demonstrate our vigilance."
Odin regarded Thor for a moment before nodding. "Very well. Do not tarry long."
Earth. A winding mountain road in the western United States.
A leather-clad woman stood by a broken motorcycle, her frustration evident as she assessed the situation. She kicked the bike lightly, muttering under her breath.
"Need a hand, gorgeous?" A sleek sports car pulled up beside her. The driver, a confident young man, whistled playfully while giving her a once-over.
Carol Danvers squinted at him, her annoyance tempered by curiosity. While she was used to dismissing unwanted attention, this man's demeanor was… odd. Still, he seemed harmless enough.
Thor's heart pounded as he observed her reaction. Carol Danvers' natural beauty was undeniable, and her rebellious appearance—a stark contrast to her Kree uniform—only enhanced her charm. She looked far more approachable now than she ever did in those rigid green-and-black battle suits.
Carol sighed and climbed into the car. "Not bad wheels," she admitted as the car roared to life. The wind tousled her hair, her earlier irritation dissipating slightly.
"Glad you think so," Thor replied, grinning. But before he could say more, a sudden jolt of unease washed over him. He swerved the car off the road just as a blazing energy blast struck the vehicle's door.
"What the hell?!" Carol demanded, instantly on alert. Her fists began to glow with energy as she assessed the situation.
Thor summoned Mjolnir with a flick of his wrist, the hammer flying into his grip. He turned to Carol, his expression calm but serious. "Easy now. I'm not your enemy."
Carol's eyes narrowed. "You're not from Earth. Care to explain yourself?" Her hands remained lit with energy, ready to strike.
Thor sighed. "Was it that obvious?" He shook his head. "Listen, I've been watching over you. It's complicated, but I'm here to help."
Carol raised an eyebrow. "Watching me? Seriously? That's your opening line?"
Before Thor could respond, another volley of energy blasts rained down on them. Carol retaliated with a flurry of her own, while Thor blocked incoming shots with Mjolnir. Their battlefield coordination, though unspoken, was seamless.
"Stop! I'm trying to explain!" Thor shouted, deflecting another attack.
"Explain while standing still? Sure. Let me know how that works out for you!" Carol retorted, unleashing another energy burst.
The fight raged for what felt like an eternity. Though evenly matched, Thor grew weary of the endless exchange. His respect for Carol's strength grew with every blow.
Finally, he shouted, "Do you want to know about Dr. Lawson? About your lost memories?"
Carol froze mid-strike. "What did you say?" she demanded, lowering her hands slightly.
Thor seized the opportunity. "I know pieces of your past. Not everything, but enough. If you want answers, you'll have to trust me."
Carol hesitated, her eyes scanning his face for any sign of deception. "Fine," she said cautiously. "But no funny business."
Thor nodded. "Agreed. Let's start with finding someone who can help."
"Where are we going?"
"Pancho's Bar," Thor replied, a small smile tugging at his lips.
As they drove toward their destination, the tension eased slightly. Carol couldn't help but notice Thor's genuine demeanor. He wasn't like the manipulative Kree or the shapeshifting Skrulls. There was something almost disarming about his earnestness.
Thor, on the other hand, was already strategizing. Every step mattered. Gaining Carol's trust was crucial, not just for the present but for the chaos that lay ahead in the timelines he remembered.
"You seem oddly calm about all this," Carol said, breaking the silence.
Thor chuckled. "Trust me, calm isn't my usual state. I just have a good feeling about this partnership."
Carol gave him a sideways glance. "Partnership? Let's not get ahead of ourselves. You still have a lot to explain."
Thor nodded. "Fair enough. Once we get to Pancho's, all will become clearer."
Unbeknownst to them, shadowy figures watched their progress from a distance. The stakes were about to rise, and Thor knew that forging alliances now would determine the battles to come.
