Chapter 3: Chapter 3: Introducing
"Let me introduce myself," Thor began, his voice carrying the weight of authority. "I am Thor, the son of Odin, hailing from Asgard, the God of Thunder, and the rightful future king. Perhaps you've heard of me in your myths and legends. What you call Norse mythology stems from Asgardians who once walked your Earth, passing their tales to mortals."
In a dimly lit bar in California, Thor addressed Nick Fury, who, at this point, still had a full head of hair. Thor's tone was laced with the inherent arrogance of a prince, a trait he felt increasingly influenced by the original Thor's personality.
"System," Thor asked internally, "how long have I been in this world?"
"Fifteen hundred years," the system replied.
Thor nodded subtly, confirming his suspicions. This wasn't mere possession of another body. His more than two decades of memories from his previous life were the real anomaly—this was his true existence.
"Huh?" Nick Fury's expression betrayed his inner turmoil. His world had been turned upside down within a single day. First, aliens. Now, gods? And not just any god—Thor, the God of Thunder, stood before him. However, having already encountered Carol Danvers, Fury found himself surprisingly resilient to these paradigm shifts.
"Well," Fury said with a shrug, attempting to mask his bewilderment, "it's an honor to meet you, then."
Their conversation soon shifted focus, and the trio—Thor, Fury, and Carol—headed to the Air Force base in pursuit of clues about Project Pegasus.
---
As they infiltrated the base, Nick Fury's sharp instincts were on full display. Even in his younger days, his cunning rivaled that of a seasoned fox. He discreetly contacted his superior, only to uncover unsettling truths about their supposed allies.
While retreating, Thor swung Mjolnir into the ceiling, unleashing a surge of electricity that plunged the entire base into darkness. Amidst the chaos, Fury found himself distracted by a small, seemingly innocent creature—a cat.
"This cat is dangerous," Thor warned, watching Fury pet the feline with a delighted grin. "I suggest you keep your distance."
Fury, despite everything he'd witnessed that day—Carol firing energy blasts, Thor short-circuiting an entire military base, and Skrulls thicker than bears—seemed unfazed. The cat, nicknamed Goose, appeared too harmless to heed Thor's caution. Fury was determined to embrace his role as Goose's new "caretaker."
Thor sighed. If Fury insisted on ignoring the dangers of this Flerken, who was he to interfere? But he couldn't help but wonder: was Fury with two functioning eyes still the Nick Fury he knew?
Meanwhile, Carol, who was piloting a plane, glanced back at Thor and asked, "Why are you helping us? This doesn't seem to be your fight. Whether it's the Kree or the Skrulls, what does it have to do with Asgard?"
Thor leaned back, his expression thoughtful. "It's true this conflict doesn't directly concern me. However, Earth belongs to Asgard, at least in name. If outsiders are meddling here, we must make our presence known."
Carol frowned, her skepticism evident. Thor's involvement seemed far too proactive for a royal heir. Even Fury, now scratching Goose's chin, noticed the underlying message in Thor's words.
"In name?" Fury asked sharply, narrowing his eyes. "Are you saying Earth doesn't truly belong to Asgard?"
Thor chuckled lightly at Fury's sudden seriousness. "Relax, Earth is independent. Humans have their own protectors—some even stronger than my father. However, those beings typically remain uninvolved unless a crisis threatens the planet itself."
Carol raised an eyebrow, unconvinced. "Stronger than Odin? You mean to tell me there's someone on Earth who could rival the gods?"
Thor nodded. "Yes. For instance, Kamar-Taj. If Ronan dared to breach Earth's boundaries without permission, I assure you they would end him before he could blink."
Fury visibly relaxed, reassured that Earth wasn't entirely defenseless against extraterrestrial threats. However, Thor's cryptic reference to Kamar-Taj left him with more questions than answers.
---
The conversation turned lighter as they continued their mission. Thor, still adapting to his role on Earth, couldn't shake the feeling that his involvement in this timeline was crucial.
"So, what's your angle, Thor?" Carol asked, breaking the brief silence. "You're not just here to wave your hammer around and call it a day, are you?"
Thor smirked. "Building alliances, Carol. The future of both Asgard and Earth may depend on it. You, for instance—your potential is extraordinary. When the time comes, I believe you'll be pivotal in keeping this realm safe."
Carol arched an eyebrow, not entirely convinced by the flattery. "You talk a lot about the future. Can you see it?"
"Not exactly," Thor admitted. "But I know the signs. Midgard—Earth—is destined to become the focal point of events that will shape the cosmos. It's better to have allies than to stand alone."
As Goose purred contentedly in Fury's lap, Thor couldn't help but smirk. Perhaps this peculiar cat had its role to play in shaping Earth's destiny after all.
