Chapter 42: Chapter 42: The Mind Stone's Warning
On December 16, 2022, Han Yu carefully explained the finer details of GTA to Ultron. For Ultron, this was a conceptual game that had yet to exist, but for Han Yu, it was a game he had played extensively. He knew its strengths and weaknesses like the back of his hand.
Money was no longer a concern for him. As long as the game was well-made, it was only a matter of time before it turned a profit, potentially bringing even greater financial rewards.
A successful game could generate astronomical revenue, especially in a Marvel universe devoid of AAA titles. The launch of GTA was bound to be wildly successful.
Countless teenagers would likely become addicted, and undoubtedly, some wealthy players would spend extravagantly on in-game items.
The game development discussion with Ultron had started in the morning and lasted until noon. Ultron posed questions every five minutes, and Han Yu patiently answered each one.
Having played the game himself, Han Yu was deeply familiar with the game mechanics and concepts. His explanations were clear and easy to understand.
Quicksilver assisted from the side. Thanks to his super speed, he had crammed several days' worth of computer knowledge into just a few hours. While he wasn't capable of building a AAA game yet, he could handle simple tasks like creating basic in-game props.
Ultron assigned him a few tasks, and with Han Yu as the planner and the two as technical support, their discussion carried on until Wanda called them for lunch. If not for her interruption, the trio might have worked straight into the next day. The joy they felt while immersed in their work made time fly by.
At the dining table, Quicksilver continued asking about game mechanics and items, seeking Han Yu's guidance on areas that could be improved. Han Yu patiently answered every question.
However, in the middle of their conversation, Han Yu's expression suddenly became serious. His brows furrowed, and he stood up abruptly.
Quicksilver flinched, thinking he had annoyed Han Yu with too many questions.
"Boss, what's wrong? Is something happening?"
Ultron, ever perceptive, noticed the grave look on Han Yu's face. It wasn't irritation—it was something else entirely.
Han Yu nodded, raising his left hand and gently rotating his fingers. The Mind Stone, which had been left behind after the Battle of Sokovia, began to emit a faint yellow glow.
"What's happening?"
Wanda was equally intrigued by the Mind Stone's reaction. She had never observed it up close before. Back when she and Quicksilver were test subjects, the stone had been embedded in Loki's scepter. This was the first time they had seen it in its raw form.
"The stone is issuing a warning," Han Yu said, his eyes narrowing. "There are usually only two possible reasons for this. Either an immensely powerful entity has arrived on Earth, or another Infinity Stone has appeared here."
Han Yu's mind raced. Of all the Infinity Stones, he knew where most of them were.
The Time Stone was safeguarded by the Ancient One and kept within the Eye of Agamotto, protected by powerful enchantments. It wasn't an offensive stone, and it shouldn't trigger the Mind Stone's warning.
The Space Stone, previously held by S.H.I.E.L.D., had been taken to Asgard by Thor after the Battle of New York and was now secured in Odin's treasure vault.
The Power Stone was likely still within the Orb. Whether the Guardians of the Galaxy had found it yet remained uncertain.
The Soul Stone required a significant sacrifice—the life of a loved one—to be obtained. Its nature made it both simple and unimaginably difficult to acquire.
After analyzing these facts, Han Yu stroked his chin thoughtfully before arriving at a conclusion.
"If time has shifted because of my actions, then the most likely stone to have surfaced on Earth right now is..."
"The Reality Stone!"
The name escaped his lips almost instinctively. His eyes gleamed slightly. Among the Infinity Stones, the Reality Stone was one of the most versatile.
Its power allowed it to alter reality itself. If the wielder was strong enough, they could reshape the world to match their imagination.
No matter how powerful or complex an attack was, the Reality Stone could instantly change its form. A chaotic storm of energy beams and explosions could be reduced to harmless bubbles with a mere thought.
"The Reality Stone? What's that?"
The other three looked at each other in confusion. None of them had ever heard of such a stone before. It had never appeared in Earth's history.
"This is also one of the Infinity Stones. Its power allows it to alter reality, shaping the world into whatever the wielder desires. In truth, it isn't exactly a stone but rather a form of particle. Long ago, it was known as the 'Aether.'"
"The Reality Stone was once in the possession of a race called the Dark Elves. They sought to use it to dominate the universe, but Asgard intervened in their plans. Odin's father, the previous King of Asgard, led the charge to seize the Reality Stone and sealed it deep beneath the Earth's surface, where it remains to this day."
Wanda and Quicksilver were awestruck by this story, but Ultron broke the moment with a sarcastic remark.
"What is it about this tiny planet that makes it so appealing? Why does every alien artifact end up on Earth?"
This comment made Han Yu burst into laughter. Ultron was absolutely right—Earth, a mid-tier planet in terms of cosmic power and technology, seemed to attract an unreasonable amount of intergalactic attention.
Han Yu said, "In any case, the Mind Stone's warning must be about this. I'm going to England."
The three looked puzzled. "Why England?"
"The Mind Stone is pointing me to the Royal Observatory in Greenwich. I need to retrieve it. An object of such immense power needs proper safeguarding. Even if someone else resolves the situation, improper storage could still lead to catastrophe. In my hands, it will be safest."
Of course, Han Yu couldn't tell them that, in his previous life, he had seen this exact event play out in a movie. With the Mind Stone in hand, it made for a perfect excuse.
The trio believed him without question. After all, the mysteries of the Infinity Stones were beyond even Ultron's computational capacity.
Wanda asked, "Do you need us to come with you?"
"No, I'll handle this myself. You three finish your meal and continue your work."
After tidying himself up, Han Yu walked to a narrow alley behind the general store. With a pinch of his fingers, a Green Lantern ring appeared on his hand. Sliding it onto his finger, he summoned a surge of emerald energy, which enveloped him before propelling him skyward.
Under Han Yu's control, the green energy gradually adjusted its hue to blend with the surrounding sky, rendering him invisible as he soared through the air.
"Commander, the target was spotted outside the general store. They used some kind of green energy to fly away and have now entered stealth mode. Our tracking systems can't follow them!"
"Stay put and keep monitoring the general store. Maintain your position."
