Marvel : Strongest Siblings

Chapter 83: marvel 83

"Humph," she scoffed, looking at Max with disdain. "So, in the end, your power comes from a Devil Fruit—a mere legacy you've obtained, not real power like mine."

Max frowned, her words piquing his curiosity. "What do you mean?" he asked.

She smirked, her eyes glinting with malice. "Well, since you're going to die anyway, I might as well let you perish in despair knowing the truth," she said. "Nine hundred years ago, there were no Devil Fruits. These so-called fruits are nothing but Haki—transformed Haki."

Max's confusion deepened, but he listened as she continued, her voice growing more intense. "Masters of Haki back then elevated it to unimaginable levels. After reaching the peak, their Haki transformed. Some used it to mimic animals, others manipulated elements, and so on."

"You probably think the peak of Haki is 'internal destruction,' don't you?" she asked, noticing the confused expression on his face. "But you're wrong. The 'internal destruction' is just the beginning of the transformation realm—a realm I deliberately erased from history."

Max's brows furrowed. "Transformation realm? What do you mean?"

She grinned, enjoying his growing confusion. "Using my technology, I created Devil Fruits by isolating and capturing the essence of these powers. Over the years, I transformed Haki into concentrated legacies that would bond to those who consumed them. That's how Devil Fruits came to be."

She paused, giving him a pointed look. "And do you know where I got the name 'Devil Fruit' from?" she asked. Max shook his head, remaining silent.

"In my world, there's a famous phrase: 'Empty mind, home of the devil.' It means that when people become lazy and stop improving themselves, they invite ruin. That's what I saw happening here. Instead of training hard to reach the transformation realm, people relied on the legacies I created."

She laughed bitterly. "Back then, mastering Haki and transforming it was a sacred journey. Internal destruction was only the beginning. Transformation would let users turn their neutral Haki into unique abilities—ice, thunder, animals, and more. I even created new ones by combining animal and elemental traits."

She tilted her head mockingly. "But here's the catch: once someone uses a legacy, their path to the transformation realm is severed. They inherit someone else's hard work. That's why you'll never be able to truly master that black dragon power. It's not your own—it's just someone else's imprint."

Max's mind raced as her words sank in. "I see," he muttered to himself. "So, that's why some Devil Fruits resonate with specific users while others don't—it's a matter of compatibility and personality."

He paused, focusing on his thoughts. 'System, is she right?' he asked inwardly.

[No, Host. The System's products are optimized. The Black Dragon power carries no imprint. When you reach the internal destruction stage in Haki, you'll be able to fully integrate it with your own Haki, unlocking its true potential. You'll reach even greater heights,] the System reassured him.

Max smirked, reassured by the System's response. He looked at her with renewed confidence. "So what? I'll surpass you anyway," he declared.

Im glared at him, her patience wearing thin. "Let's see you try!" she shouted, summoning a massive weapon—a gleaming gauntlet of intricate design. Energy pulsed from it as she lunged at him, her speed blurring as she aimed a crushing blow at his chest.

Max braced himself, his expression unwavering. The clash was imminent.

The punch barely affected Max, as a black barrier materialized in front of him, absorbing the brunt of the attack. Im's gauntlet slammed against the barrier with a deafening clang, but Max didn't flinch. Instead, his eyes darkened, and an ominous aura began to emanate from him.

"Impressive," he muttered, his tone laced with mockery. "But I think it's time I stop holding back."

Activating his Night Lord abilities, the air around Max grew colder, his presence oppressive. Shadows writhed and danced at his feet as if alive, and his power surged. However, he noticed something odd—his Black Dragon Power wasn't responding as it usually did. It was being suppressed.

At first, he assumed it was due to the incomplete progress of his Devil Fruit abilities, but after hearing Im's explanation of the transformation realm, it all clicked.

"It's not just the Devil Fruit's rank," Max thought, his gaze sharpening. "It's the gap in mastery—her Haki is on an entirely different level, refined through that transformation realm. My Black Dragon power, as strong as it is, still carries limitations when faced with someone who has mastered their abilities to this extent."

Max clenched his fists, his mind racing as he adjusted his strategy. "So this is what it means to face a master from the transformation realm. Fine then, I'll show her that I don't need to rely on just the Black Dragon."

With a flick of his wrist, shadowy tendrils lashed out from his barrier, striking toward Im. They moved with terrifying speed, cutting through the air like blades. Max's eyes glowed faintly as he tapped deeper into his Night Lord powers, determined to bridge the gap between their mastery.

Im, unfazed, smirked and raised her gauntlet, its intricate designs glowing with an ethereal light. "You will loose why work hard" she taunted, swiping at the tendrils with ease. They dissipated on contact, unable to pierce her Haki-coated defenses.

But Max smiled in return. "Oh, I'm not done yet."

The ground beneath them darkened as an enormous shadow began to rise, taking the form of a monstrous figure. It towered above them both, its glowing eyes fixed on Im. Max's voice echoed, layered with the essence of his Night Lord power.

"Let's see if your so-called mastery can handle this."

"Night Necromancy " Nights' Golem" Max mumbled as that golem arose and then rushed at Im, Im frowned seeing this as she looked at the Golem, 'Which power is this? Why don't I remember?' she thought as he created a dark orangeblade and cleaved the golem in two.

Max frowned seeing this, though he wasn't worried but more like he was interested in her power, 'System can I take her power too?' he asked knowing it's not devil fruit.

[ Host can] System replied as Max relaxed, 'Now, just have to kill her' he thought as he began to prepare a grand magic while she is busy with golems.
