Chapter 82: Marvel 82
The woman, who introduced herself as Im, looked at Max with an intensity that pierced through his defenses. "You're not from this world, are you?" she asked, her voice calm but laced with certainty.
Max froze for a moment, stunned by her words, though his expression quickly returned to its usual guarded demeanor. "What do you mean, not from this world?" he asked, narrowing his eyes as he studied her carefully.
She gave a small, knowing smile. "You know exactly what I mean," she replied. Her tone carried the weight of someone who understood far more than she let on. "I am not from this world either," she continued, stepping closer. "I arrived here by accident while working on a wormhole experiment."
Max's eyes briefly widened before narrowing again as he crossed his arms. "And then what? You just decided to take over?" he asked skeptically, though there was a trace of genuine curiosity in his voice.
"I didn't want this, but in order to return to my own world, it was necessary," she said, her voice calm yet resolute.
"This world has a powerful weapon," she continued. "But it only works on negative energy. It was designed by the Kingdom of D to aid people whenever they fell into despair. However, if I had left it as it was, it would have taken over 10,000 years to fully charge the energy required to activate it."
"So, I decided to reshape this world—to make it one teetering on the edge of despair and hopelessness so that the weapon could recharge faster," she admitted, her gaze meeting Max's.
Max frowned, his expression a mixture of disbelief and disgust. "So, just for your own selfish desire, you doomed this world?" he asked coldly.
She shrugged lightly. "Why should I care about this world?" she replied with indifference. "All I want is to return to my own. That's all that matters to me."
Max stared at her, his fists clenched as a storm of emotions surged within him. "You played with the lives of countless people for something as selfish as that?" His voice was low but carried a dangerous edge.
Im remained unfazed. "You and I aren't so different, Max. You would do the same if it meant achieving your own goals," she said, her tone matter-of-fact.
Max's eyes narrowed. "The difference is I don't destroy worlds to get what I want. I fix them—even if it means tearing down people like you."
Im glanced at Max, her expression unreadable as she spoke. "But now that you're here, there's no need to continue reshaping this world. I can use the world's alignment myself. In return, why don't you tell me what brought you to this world and how you came to oppose me?" she proposed with a calm yet dangerous tone.
Max scoffed, his disdain evident. "This world is better off without you," he replied coldly.
Im's eyes narrowed in anger. "What do you know?! I am the greatest mind there is! The best inventor! I created a world far superior to this one—a perfected utopia through advanced multiversal solar engineering."
She straightened with pride, her voice rising. "I sacrificed everything to ensure that my planet could harness enough energy to conquer entire solar systems. I've been responsible for the development of over 30 solar systems in my original world! How dare you suggest this place is better off without me?"
Max's gaze remained steady as she ranted. His voice cut through her tirade. "You're just a tyrant with a god complex. It doesn't matter how many systems you've conquered or how much power you wield—this world doesn't need you."
Her frustration bubbled over, her aura flaring as she exhaled sharply. "Mock me all you like, but I am the key to perfection! With the power of this world's resources, I can return to mine and achieve even greater things."
She turned toward him, her mask sliding slightly to reveal her face—a striking, ethereal beauty marred by an undercurrent of menace. Her pink eyes glowed with power as she stepped forward, her voice soft but laden with authority. "Join me, Max. Together, we can achieve perfection. Be my second, and you'll see a world beyond your wildest dreams."
Max chuckled darkly, his tone laced with mockery. "And if I refuse?"
Im's face twisted into a scowl as she raised her hand. An ornate gauntlet materialized, its intricate design radiating deadly energy. The weapon aimed directly at his chest. "Then I'll kill you here and now," she said with icy resolve. "You'll regret standing in my way."
Max didn't flinch. He sidestepped her aim effortlessly, a smirk tugging at his lips. "Your arrogance will be your downfall," he said. "You talk about creating worlds, but I'll make sure this one—and even the one you came from—are free from your influence."
Her eyes flared as she shot a beam of energy toward him, only for Max to counter with his own force, causing the ground to tremble under their clash. Im stepped back, recalculating her next move, her frustration barely contained.
"You're at the same level as me?," she asked astonished. "I'm working on a scale you couldn't even fathom. My weapons can destroy worlds if I choose. And these Devil Fruits—" she gestured toward a set of preserved fruits nearby—"are miracles beyond imagination. They have no limits. The more you develop them, the stronger you become. Although, since human lifespans are limited to hundred years they never fully develop this fruits, only I have perfected their use after gaining immortality."
Max smirked at her explanation. "Interesting," he said, his tone laced with sarcasm. "Too bad your 'miracles' are going to end with you."
"I have reached your level and for that I didn't need immortality or Eight centuries" Max said mocking her.
Im's glare intensified as she prepared for her next attack, the air between them thick with tension, ready to erupt into chaos.
"Humph, so what in the end you have gained power from a Devil fruit it is nothing but an legacy you have obtained not the real power unlike mine" She said looking at him.
