Chapter 40: Reincarnation
Michael's awareness returned gradually, like a fog lifting from his mind. At first, he couldn't comprehend anything—there was no light, no sound, just an overwhelming sense of confinement. It was soft and warm, yet restrictive. He couldn't stretch his limbs fully, and every movement felt sluggish, as though surrounded by a thick, viscous liquid.
"What... where am I?" he thought, his mind sluggish but increasingly alert.
Then it hit him: he wasn't floating in some ethereal void anymore. He was contained. His body—or whatever form it had taken—was curled up, almost like he was trapped. The realization sent a wave of confusion and frustration through him, but before panic could take hold, a strange calm settled over him.
The environment was oddly comforting, the warmth surrounding him soothing in a way that felt primal. His every sense seemed dulled, as if wrapped in layers of soft cushioning. Faintly, he could hear something—a rhythmic, steady sound. A heartbeat.
"Am I... in a womb?" he wondered, his thoughts thick with disbelief.
The realization sent a jolt of mixed emotions through him. There was a surreal peace in the situation, but also a deep, creeping unease. The concept of being reborn, of starting over, was daunting.
He tried to move, just to confirm his theory, and felt resistance all around him. His limbs were small and uncoordinated, barely responding to his will.
"This is insane... I can't believe I'm actually experiencing this."
Time passed strangely. It could have been minutes, hours, or days—there was no way to tell. The soft sounds of the heartbeat and muffled vibrations around him became his entire world.
And then one day...
[ System is back online ]
[ Host, you are now a few minutes away from arriving in the new world. Would Host like to use the random gacha? ]
"Let me get born, will you?" Michael said as the system paused.
[ Host, this is the world of Supreme Magus. Aren't you forgetting something? ] the system replied.
Michael frowned. "Yes, that awakening thing where one unlocks their static mana core , and the best time is when ones get born in this world, it is not only the safest but also the best way to maximize the benefit of it," he said, settling back down.
[ So Host is now ready to use the gacha? ] the system asked.
Michael was confused for a moment. "What's the use of the gacha now?"
[ Host, the random gacha is meant to match the protagonist cheat of this world. It's like a cheat that levels up the field. ]
[ You could gain a magical skill related to this world's mana, including things like breathing arts, which will allow you to awaken a powerful mana skill, better than the one you developed yourself. ] the system explained.
Michael nodded slowly. "So this gacha will work every time like this? It'll match the protagonist's abilities?"
[ Correct, Host. ]
"Okay, do it," Michael said, his tone resolute as the system responded with a hum.
[ Congratulations, Host, you've obtained the Grimoire of Twilight Magus! ]
[ Twilight Magus: Taeris, master of both light and darkness magic, with high attainments in dimensional magic and magiccraft as well. His grip increases with his knowledge, establishing his place in the universe. ]
[ With this, given Host's circumstances, System will now transfer the powerful Mana Breathing skill, called Twilight's Blessing, directly to your head. ]
Michael nodded as soon he got the information on how to use and at the same time, The warmth and comfort gave way to pressure. An overwhelming force seemed to squeeze him from all sides. He could feel his body being pushed, the liquid around him draining. A rush of sensations flooded his tiny form—cold air, harsh sounds, the first sharp pain of light hitting his eyes.
He gasped instinctively, a tiny cry escaping him—the cry of a newborn.
"This baby is good." Suddenly, he heard a voice. His vision cleared, and he found an old lady looking at him. "But he also stopped crying?"
She checked him fully waving he hand as magic appear on her finger tips as he drawing circle on him as he felt mana inspecting in and out of him.
"Your son is all good," she said, as she handed him to someone nearby. Michael noticed the woman was beautiful and seemed to belong to a wealthy household.
[ Host, you have just a few minutes left. You should awaken yourself now. ] the system alerted him.
He took a deep breath and began to focus on using his newly acquired Twilight's Blessing. He breathed in slowly, following the instructions from the system. As he exhaled, the mana flowed through him, enveloping him in its energy. His body felt invigorated, and he could sense his magic awakening.
The old lady looked at him with a soft, knowing gaze. "This child... He will grow up to be something special," she muttered, as she felt a surge of magic power.
He continued to work hard, and then he felt the mana reaching his core. When it finally reached him, it was as if a bomb was set to fire. The mana surged through him, and as it did, an enormous amount of energy burst forth. If this had happened at any other time, he would have exploded into blood and gore, but now, he was just born—connected to the world, letting the mana move through his being, purifying his tiny body. As the mana left him, it was as though it was purging all the impurities from his tiny body.
As she gently rocked him, Michael felt the new power settle in his chest, and he instinctively calmed himself. There was a new sense of control, as if he could now move anything based on his will.
'I guess this is the Spirit Magic,' he thought as he fell asleep, the toll of awakening causing him to drift off into a peaceful slumber.
In the world of Supreme Magus, the seven main elements—Fire, Water, Earth, Air, Light, Darkness, and Spirit—define the very essence of magic. Each element is unique, granting distinct abilities and powers to those who can tap into them.
Among these, Spirit Magic is the most elusive and powerful, reserved only for those known as "Awakeners." These individuals can harness the raw power of Spirit, a magic tied directly to their will. Unlike the other elements, which follow a more traditional path of study and elemental affinity, Spirit Magic allows its users to manipulate their surroundings, control the mana in surroundings by their will alone.
