Chapter 8: Chapter 8: Bonds of Class 1-B

Chapter 8: Bonds of Class 1-B

The colossal sports festival arena trembled with the roaring cheers of the crowd, their enthusiasm palpable as the first event concluded. Above the vast expanse of the arena, a gigantic screen displayed the rankings of the obstacle race. At the very top, "1st Place: Izuku Midoriya" blinked brightly. The green-haired boy stood at the center of the finish line, his chest heaving from exertion. His freckled face glistened with sweat, and tears threatened to spill from his wide, green eyes.

Midoriya couldn't help but smile through his exhaustion. Seeing his name and image dominating the massive screen was overwhelming. Yamada Hizashi's excited commentary boomed over the speakers:

"YOOO! What an exhilarating finish, folks! Izuku Midoriya has claimed first place with a spectacular display of ingenuity and determination! A true underdog rising to the top!"

The screen shifted to show Todoroki Shoto, who claimed second place, his dual-colored hair plastered to his forehead, ice melting off his uniform. Behind him, Bakugo Katsuki, in third, gritted his teeth as he glared at the screen, his explosions barely restrained.

Meanwhile, in sixth place, Monoma Neito crossed the finish line, gasping for breath. His legs trembled as the engines from Iida Tenya's Quirk dissipated from his calves, leaving no trace of the power he had copied. The determination in his golden eyes flickered as he wiped a bead of sweat from his cheek. Looking back toward the entrance, he muttered with a smirk, "There are still more than thirty spots left. You can do it, everyone."

Though Monoma had secured his qualification, his focus was on his classmates. Class 1-B was far behind in numbers, with ten students from Class 1-A already qualified, compared to only two from Class 1-B, including himself.

A familiar voice broke through the noise. "Monoma, you were the first from our class, just as I expected."

Monoma turned to see Kendo Itsuka approaching him, her uniform stained with dirt and sweat. Despite her exhaustion, her fiery orange hair framed her face, her beauty untouched by the wear of the race. Monoma quickly looked away, suppressing the small, unspoken feelings in his chest.

"It's not over yet," he replied coolly. "I trust our classmates to pull through."

Kendo smiled warmly, wiping her forehead. "Of course. With someone like you leading us, how could we not?"

Before Monoma could respond, a loud, familiar voice echoed through the entrance.

"MAKE WAY! MAKE WAY!"

Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu burst into view, his body gleaming with metallic resilience, though it was covered in scratches and dents. Behind him, a horde of Class 1-B students surged forward, following his lead.

"Tetsutetsu!" Monoma exclaimed, a rare genuine grin breaking across his face.

One after another, over fifteen students from Class 1-B poured into the finish line, their faces flushed with triumph. The crowd erupted into cheers as the group collapsed onto the ground in a heap of camaraderie.

Tetsutetsu fell onto his back, staring at the sky, his chest rising and falling as he caught his breath. The sound of cheering and the sight of the arena blurred together in his mind.

Kendo, standing beside Monoma, turned to Ibara Shiozaki, whose long, forest-green hair swayed gently. "Why is Tetsutetsu so banged up?"

Ibara smiled softly. "He cleared the minefield by charging through every explosion. Thanks to him, the rest of us made it through unscathed."

Monoma chuckled. "That's exactly what I'd expect from him. A true juggernaut."

Tetsutetsu raised his metallic thumb in the air as his body reverted to normal. "Anything for Class 1-B!"

As the group celebrated, Kendo and Ibara exchanged amused glances, both smiling at Monoma. Soon, other Class 1-B students gathered around, voices overlapping in joy:

"That was insane, Tetsutetsu!"

"I thought we were done for!"

"Monoma, you really set the bar high!"

Amid the lively chatter, Yamada's voice resonated again, "Attention, students who have qualified! Please proceed to the center of the arena for the next stage preparations!"

The crowd's cheers grew softer as the participants began gathering. Monoma turned to his classmates, his tone calm yet commanding.

"We can't continue as one big class after this point," he said. "But we can form smaller groups. I watched last year's festival closely. The next round will likely split us into teams. All I want you to focus on is one thing: eliminate competitors from other classes. Avoid fighting each other unless absolutely necessary."

Tetsutetsu groaned as he sat up, rubbing his head. "But I want to compete against you, Monoma, and everyone else here! Sure, I want to crush Class 1-A, but you guys are important to me too. I want to face you all!"

The sincerity in his voice brought a collective smile to the group.

"You can challenge me in the final stage if you qualify," Monoma said, his smirk returning. "The best way to ensure a Class 1-B victory is for all of us to make it through this round. Focus on eliminating outsiders, not each other."

Kendo stepped forward, her green eyes sparkling with determination. "That's the spirit we need! Let's stick to Monoma's plan, everyone. Understood?"

A resounding "Yes!" echoed as the students raised their hands in agreement, their enthusiasm infectious.

From a distance, Midoriya watched the scene unfold, his emerald eyes thoughtful. Class 1-B seems so united, he mused. Their bond is incredible.

Suddenly, Midnight's voice rang out from the stage. "Ladies and gentlemen!" Her sultry tone carried over the noise as she stood proudly on the platform, her blue eyes glinting and her jet-black hair flowing. "It's time to announce and explain the second event!"

The crowd hushed in anticipation, their excitement palpable. Monoma stood tall, his confidence unwavering as he glanced at his classmates. The second stage was about to begin, and for Class 1-B, the real challenge was just starting.
