MHA: Mewtwo

Chapter 11: XI: first practice

The first of the unknown classmates walked to the front, his hands buried in his pockets, his gaze flickering downward with a hint of shyness.

"Uh, hey. I'm Ren Akiyama," he began, his voice quiet but clear. The boy had messy green hair streaked with subtle tints of blonde, and his height—towering at about 2 meters—made him stand out despite his timid ambiguous demeanor.

"My Quirk is Ripple Touch. I can make vibrations with my hands that mess with stuff—like loosening screws, breaking glass, or, if I push too much, bending metal. It's not flashy or anything, but it gets the job done... sometimes. I'm hoping to get better control of it here, so, yeah… nice to meet you all." He gave a brief nod and raised his hand making it vibrate. Right after, he went back to his seat, his steps quick and his shoulders slightly slouched.

Raiden's first impression was that Ren seemed a lot like Tamaki—reserved and introverted. His Quirk was an emitter type, similar to Nejire's. For now, emitters were a minority in the group, as most of the others had transformation-based Quirks.

Next, a confident red-haired girl stepped up, her presence brimming with energy. Her playful smile lit up the room as she stood before the class. "Hi, everyone! I'm Yuyu Haya, and my Quirk is called Electric Shot. I can create arrows made of electricity and shoot them forward. It's pretty dangerous, so, uh, be careful around me, haha!" Her light laugh resonated through the classroom, breaking the tension.

"Anyways, I'm here to become a hero, so I'm looking forward to working with all of you!" She gave a quick wave before heading back to her seat, her lively aura leaving a lasting impression on everyone present.

The third student approached the front with hesitant, deliberate steps. She held a single petal in her hand, gently spinning it between her fingers. Her small frame, combined with her snow-white hair that seemed to shimmer under the classroom lights, gave her the appearance of a fragile porcelain doll.

"Um… hi," she began, her voice soft but steady. "I'm Hana Takami. My Quirk is Petal Cloak. I can create petals from my body and control them. They're sharp, but kind of fragile, so I have to be careful." She paused for a moment, her gaze dropping to the floor. "I'm not the strongest, but I want to use my Quirk to protect people. I think petals can be strong, too, in their own way." With a small bow, she quickly retreated to her seat, her presence understated yet heartfelt.

Finally, the last student rose from his chair. His demeanor was formal, confident and composed, contrasting starkly with his long, flowing hair that reached down to his hips and his piercing red eyes. He walked to the front with measured precision, exuding an air of quiet confidence.

"Hello, I'm Taro Fujimoto. My Quirk is String Weave. I can produce threads from my fingers—kind of like a spider. They're strong and sticky but have their limits. My goal is to find innovative ways to use them in hero work, like creating traps or helping save people in dangerous situations." He paused briefly, adjusting his glasses with a calm motion. "I look forward to working with all of you and learning together. Thank you." With a polite nod, he returned to his seat, his movements deliberate and steady, leaving an impression of meticulousness and poise.

With the introductions complete, the classroom seemed to settle into a rhythm. Each student's unique personality and abilities painted vibrant strokes onto the collective canvas of Class 1-A. They were few, but each was undeniably unique, from the weird hair styles, the naked Mirio, the shy group.

"Good. Now we're going to test your physical prowess, so head to the lockers and change into your tracksuits. I'll wait for you in the first field behind the building, we had a lot do," Snipe exclaimed before strolling out of the classroom with his usual confident stride.

Immediately, the students rose from their seats and headed to the lockers, quickly changing into their tracksuits. No one wasted time as they hurried toward Training Field Number One behind the main building. As they arrived, they caught glimpses of the sprawling school grounds and other students bustling in the distance.

Once gathered on the field, anticipation buzzed in the air.

"Good, no one wasted time. Now, generally speaking, we usually conduct standard school tests, but with Quirks in the equation, I believe that's not the right approach. Everyone's Quirk is different—different strengths, different weaknesses. A standard test would only hinder the evaluation. So, I've decided to do this my way," Snipe declared, calm and confident.

"For this test, you'll form two groups of four and one group of three to fight me. This will allow me to assess your overall strength, speed, combat capabilities, and how well you use your Quirks. You have three minutes to choose your groups," he announced.

Immediately, the students began looking around, rushing to form alliances. However, three of them—Tamaki, Ren, and Hana—remained still. Spotting the trio, and noting their quieter demeanor compared to the rest, Raiden approached. Before he could say a word, Mirio swooped in, pulling Tamaki away.

Raiden hesitated for a moment, considering whether to follow and ask them to team up. However, as he looked at the rest, he found Nejire looking around lost, but without approaching anyone.

"want to team up with me?" Raiden asked with a smile as he approached and signaled, Hana and Ren, and the two of them nodded.

Without much time to decide, Nejire shrugged and accepted the situation. With this, his group of four was set. Initially, he'd sought out Tamaki since they had experience fighting together, but perhaps this would be a good opportunity to work with new faces.

When the groups were ready, Snipe surveyed them and nodded. "Good. Now, who wants to go first?" he asked.

The Naoka brothers were the first to step forward.

They walked toward Snipe with determination, and the teacher nodded in approval. "Good. Don't hold back. The rules are simple, Use your Quirks to their fullest and if three of you are incapacitated the test is over, and don't worry about me—I'll be fine. And don't worry, I won't shoot."

Despite Snipe's reassurance, the brothers hesitated briefly, exchanging uncertain glances. Seeing this, Snipe added firmly, "If you don't attack, I'll fail you."

That lit a fire under them. Without another word, the three brothers sprang into action. Their arms transformed—one into spears, another into massive blades resembling oversized knives, and the third into hammers.

Sanri, the brother with spear-like arms, thrust forward first. Snipe casually tilted his head to dodge the attack, grabbing Sanri by the arm and effortlessly throwing him backward. Without missing a beat, Snipe shifted his focus to Ichiri and Nichiri, who were charging at him from opposite sides.

Ichiri, with hammer-like arms, leaped over his brother and aimed a crushing blow at Snipe. The teacher sidestepped with ease, grabbing Ichiri by the shirt and sending him flying. Nichiri, wielding bladed arms, lunged next, but Snipe countered with a smooth rotation of his body, grabbing Nichiri's arm mid-swing and hurling him aside.

The entire exchange lasted no more than seven seconds.

"Good. Now, round two. Keep going," Snipe instructed.

The brothers regrouped, panting but resolute, and launched another series of attacks. Snipe, however, remained unbothered. With minimal movement, he dodged every strike, stepping just out of reach or deflecting their momentum. He didn't land a single hit on them—his counters consisted only of tossing them aside, forcing them to regroup and try again.

After five minutes of relentless attempts, the brothers were sprawled on the ground, gasping for air.

Snipe hummed thoughtfully and addressed them. "That's enough. I've seen what I need to. The three of you have excellent coordination, but you lack real combat experience and individual strength. We'll focus on building your individual strengths and refining your fighting skills. Once that's solid, we'll work on polishing your teamwork."

The brothers nodded weakly, their determination still flickering despite their exhaustion.

"Next group," exclaimed Snipe, his eyes scanning the two remaining teams.

This time, Raiden didn't hesitate. He stepped forward decisively, his body beginning to transform into combat mode. A glow started from his arm, spreading gradually across his form as ripples of energy radiated outward, revealing his imposing stature. Nejire, standing nearby, couldn't contain her curiosity.

"Oh, you're the one from the test! I didn't know that! You were pretty strong—that's so good!" she exclaimed with more enthusiasm, her voice brimming a little more than before.

Meanwhile, Hana and Ren approached timidly, their steps hesitant as they gathered before the teacher. Sensing their uncertainty, Raiden decided to break the silence.

"We don't have teamwork as polished as the other group," he began, his tone calm but firm. "From what I know, we have three long-range attackers—me, Nejire, and Hana. To avoid accidentally hitting Ren, I think he should stay back, observe the situation, and attack when he sees an opening or when one of us creates it for him."

Before Raiden could finish, Ren spoke up, his voice tinged with nervousness. "E-eh, I can also attack from a distance. I can send a vibration wave through the ground. It might not be as strong, but it could destabilize the teacher—I think."

The others exchanged quick glances before nodding in agreement.

As they finalized their plan, Raiden added something unexpected. "Also, we can communicate mentally. It's easier for me in this form—it feels more natural."

Hearing Raiden's voice inside their heads momentarily startled the team, but they quickly adapted to the revelation. Their initial surprise melted into determination as they recomposed themselves and charged forward.

Raiden soared above Snipe, launching two consecutive confusion attacks. To his surprise, the teacher dodged each one effortlessly, moving with such precision it seemed as though he barely shifted, the only result of the attack was a little of destruction behind in the ground.

Meanwhile, Nejire propelled herself forward with a burst of energy. "Nejire Wave!" she shouted, her spiral attack hurtling toward Snipe's face. The teacher, with a swift crouch, evaded it wiouth problem.

Noticing Snipe's grounded position, Ren clapped his hands together, projecting his Quirk into the earth. The ground beneath the teacher began to tremble violently, forcing Snipe to leap sideways—his first major movement of the encounter. This brief lapse in his defensive flow was enough for Raiden and Hana to launch a coordinated assault.

Hana unleashed a flurry of twenty flower petals, each darting toward Snipe with uncanny precision. The teacher, realizing the petals were under her control, countered by deftly swiping and breaking each one mid-air with fluid, calculated motions.

Before Snipe could destroy the final petal, nine radiant yellow stars hurtled toward him. His eyes narrowed; he knew these stars well. They homed in on their target and detonated upon contact—a tricky and relentless technique.

Snipe performed a series of agile backflips, simultaneously snatching eight pebbles from the ground. With pinpoint accuracy, he hurled the stones at the stars, detonating them mid-flight. The explosions lit the battlefield briefly, masking Snipe's movements.

Yet, the teacher's keen awareness detected the kids' strategy. They were driving him back, coordinating their attacks to exploit their ranged advantages. Their teamwork was improving with every volley, a fact Snipe noted with quiet approval.

As Raiden mentally coordinated the next wave of attacks, Nejire unleashed a barrage of spiraling energy waves, their shimmering trails converging on Snipe. The teacher braced himself, recognizing how quickly the students were adapting.

With a low hum of approval, Snipe decided it was time to shift tactics. He needed to push them further, to test not just their powers but their ability to handle pressure.

In an instant, Snipe sprinted forward, closing the gap between himself and Ren in less than two seconds. With a swift palm strike to the chest, he sent the boy flying backward. The sheer speed of the move made Raiden's eyes widen in alarm, he was faster than he anticipated, Snipe was supposed to only a quirk that only let him alter the direction of the bullets, why he was this fast?. Tryng to anticipate Snipe's next move, Raiden prepared to launch a counterattack from above. However, his view was abruptly obstructed by a red cape flung into his line of sight.

A startled yell broke his focus. As Raiden used his telekinetic powers to clear the cape, and attack but he was shocked to see Nejire hurtling toward him. The force of her collision knocked him off balance, sending him plummeting to the ground. tryng to not let Nejire fall head on the ground, distracted, he barely registered the shadow that loomed over him until he looked up to find Snipe's leg poised in front of him, out of instinct he reacted with a confusion attack rejecting Snipe, who flew away, but it looked liked he used Raiden attack to get an impulse and jump away from him.

"The test is over. Good job, though," Snipe said with a grin, his tone surprisingly encouraging. "I can see you've had to adapt quickly to work as a team, and that's impressive."

As Raiden turned his head, he caught sight of Hana kneeling beside Ren, her eyes spinning around. Ren, sprawled on the ground, gave a weak thumbs-up, somehow Snipe defeated his classmates in the instant his vision was covered by the cape.
