Chapter 41: Auction House

Auction House

"You're saying that you, a human, is leading our Kin?" The dragon asked with a snarl to his voice. If before one wasn't sure if there was hostility between the two parties, it was very clear now that there was.

However, the instant his tone was made clear, all of Christopher's subordinates shifted slightly and their body language changed, all of them ready to pounce at a moment's notice.

Seeing this, the Vampires and Dragons were surprised.

"Why are you defending this human?" The female Vampire asked Belladonna who stared at her coldly from her mask.

"We have no reason to tell you anything. Just know that any attempt made to touch him will result in your deaths." She said coldly and the air became tense.

The Dragons narrowed their eyes, especially at the twins.

"Children, you will point your talons at your own kin?" The green dragon asked solemnly and the duo just shrugged.

"We don't know any of you. We'll protect the one that was there to provide and protect us rather than some people we just met." Umbra said casually, though the band around his wrist began to radiate Mana.

"Okay can we calm down for a second?" Christopher said with a sigh and stepped between his group and the other two and looked at them.

"Dragons, rest assured I have treated these two well and they are following me of their own free will. I have no interest in garnering your ire by kidnapping children." He said calmly but firmly before looking at the Vampires, and his tone became a bit less friendly.

"And Vampires, She is also following me of her free will. Now whether or not your culture says such a thing is allowed, I do not care. But she is my subordinate. Anyone who tries to suggest otherwise is getting stabbed." His last words caused the Vampires to turn solemn.

"Do you have any idea who you are speaking to with such a tone you dawned Primate?!" One of the Vampires said with rage, but Christopher shrugged.

"What are you gonna do? Bite me?" He said with a shrug, but just as things were about to get even more heated.

"Did you lot forget the rule here?" A deep, ancient voice echoed throughout the area. It seemed to come from every direction and reverberated through everyone's bones.

The faces of the Vampires turned dark and they gave Christopher a dirty look before turning to leave.

The Dragons also gave Christopher a look, but this time it was less hostile and more curious.

"... We will continue to watch you, Human." The leading dragon said before turning to leave with his group.

'Hm. I can't tell if that went better or worse than I expected.' He shrugged and looked at the others.

"You guys okay?" He asked and they all nodded.

"Hm, you just arrived and are already causing such a ruckus." A melodious voice filled his ears and Christopher turned his head to see the Elven Queen and her daughter walking towards him.

Christopher bowed slightly and asked.

"Your Majesty. It's an honour to speak to you again." He said politely and everyone besides the humans were quite shocked. This mysterious human and the Elven Queen know each other?

"Skip the formalities. I expected to see you here, but I had no idea you had such… capable subordinates?" She said and glanced at Christopher's group and he just shrugged.

Meanwhile Aisha just stared at Christopher with a complicated expression on her face. She looked like she wanted to ask something but held her tongue in the end.

They chatted for a while before a sound very similar to that of a bell chime rang in their ears.

Then the ground began to tremble, slightly at first, but gradually the intensity rose to that of a somewhat large earthquake. Still, no one here was weak so they stood without worry. Moreover they all knew what was happening. Maybe besides Christopher, but he simply followed suit with them.

Then something incredible started to happen.

From scratch, a structure began to be constructed.

Different materials were being pulled from Different parts of the island and everyone watched as the building, the Auction house, was being constructed in person. It was a sight to see.

From the path leading to the entrance to the building itself, everything was being created in real time.

Christopher watched, impressed by the display. As in a few short moments, not even up to a minute, the entire building had been constructed, and it was as extravagant as many would imagine.

The Auction House was shrouded in a thin, hazy mist, its facade shimmering with an ethereal glow. Towering spires of polished silverwood seem to defy gravity, while intricate, gemstone-encrusted carvings dance across the walls, pulsing with a soft, mystical light. Everything about it seemed both magical and extravagant, making one feel that it truly deserved to be a place capable of hosting some of the most powerful and wealthy beings in the world.

Christopher wanted to admire it more, but everyone began to walk in almost immediately after it appeared, as such, he followed suit, his group behind him.

When they passed through the main doors, it was clear that the inside was just as extravagant as the outside.

Upon entering, the guests were enveloped in an atmosphere of enchanted opulence. The foyer's crystal chandelier resonated with gentle, whispery incantations that upon hearing them, seemed to ease one's mind, as soft luminescent orbs infused with Mana drift lazily across the ceiling. Walls adorned with masterpieces from legendary artists and ancient, mystical artifacts served to tantalise the senses of any that looked upon them.

Christopher silently admired the works of art and was curious as to who made them. Each piece seemed to draw one in and their beauty was unmatched, causing someone with a weak soul to fall into a trance if they stared for too long.

As they walked Christopher noticed that their group kept on receiving glances with varying emotions, but the only ones that were outrightly hostile were the Vampires, which was understandable since he basically said he'd off any of them who tried to touch Belladonna.

Soon, the group arrived in the main Auction room.

The main auction room is a symphony of magical splendor. Plush, velvet-draped seating areas made from the fur of a powerful beast shimmer with subtle, spell-woven patterns which Christopher assumed made them extra comfortable. The auctioneer's podium, crafted from a rare, ancient wood, radiated gentle energy that seemed to draw one in, ensuring no one would be distracted during the Auction.

"It seems to be that time again eh?" Everyone was greeted by a man at the entrance to the main hall.

He was pretty tall, taller than Christopher by at least a head, and wore a very flashy golden suit. His hair was combed back and he had a mustache with curled tips and wore a monocle on his right eye. He looked quite Amiable, though the moment he appeared, everyone, even people like the Emperor and the Dragons, turned respectful.

"We greet Elder Sinestra." They all said in Unison. Christopher and his group knew to do this because the Queen had told them beforehand when they were about to enter.

The man who was the projection of the Island's will simply laughed cheerfully.

"It's nice to see you all too. Seems like everyone here is mostly the same as last time." Then he glanced at Christopher.

"But there do seem to be a few new faces here. Which is fine." Then he snapped his fingers and several servants wearing masks appeared from different parts of the hall.

"First and foremost, those of you who wish to place something that will be bid on during the Auction should follow those servants of mine. The remaining will be shown to their seats." Sinestra said with a bright smile and in no time, there were two groups.

Christopher obviously was among those who wanted to put up something to sell. And besides the humans and the Elvan Queen and her daughter, no one spared them a second glance.

Now that they were here, everyone got rid of all distractions as now was the time to plan and buy items of utmost importance. After all, this Auction happened once a decade, some of these powers were in need of special items that could help them greatly in their endeavors.

As such, they had planned out what they would buy and what they wouldn't and how they would manage their money. Obviously they couldn't know for sure everything that was going to be presented, but they had a good idea on the types of items that would appear so they were able to plan accordingly.

Little did they know that the new arrival was gonna sell some things that would make every one of them want to completely forego any plans they previously had and utterly destroy their pockets.
