My Last Breath: A Dying Man's Love And Wish

Chapter 6: § It Was Fate §

What a woman looks for truthfully, is the fulfillment of her heart's desires.

..... .... ..... ...

Evee's body tensed as she looked at the man who stood at the edge of the building. Her body almost trembling. In her eyes, the man stood without as if frozen.

She could notice his head looking straight. He was looking at the far dark city nigh covered in street loght. He turned his ro look behind with a blank and expressionless face to her, the one called out.

"What are you, a coward? Do you think life is that easy to give up? Do you think killing yourself is the best answer? Well it's not..! What you're doing is just a stupid display of cowardice....." Evee shouted at him in a senseless monologue.

Sure she wanted hi.away from the edge. But even she didn't know what to say to get him down. She was a doctor and not a rescuer. The man didn't say anything but just looked at her blankly.

One might think she would mind the blank expression and be affected, but she continued speaking. The longer she spoke, the more worry came over her.

The man cleared his throat and took a deep breath as if about to speak. That was when she stopped speaking and prepared to listen attentively with pleading eyes. But she was surprised by his next action.

He just turned around and sat at the edge with his feet dangling over the edge. He took out his phone and focused his attention on it. She could almost curse from the inside but she held back. She didn't know what he was thinking as it was.

"Hey. Hey are you listening to me?!" She called out, walking closer to the man.

"Do you want to join me?" Evee was halted in her tracks. The man's response caught her off guard. It was unexpected amd would cause a person to have a lot of scary thoughts at times like this.

"Why don't you come down from there so we can talk? Okay?" Evee tried to negotiate. It was probably best they stood back from the edge.

The man turned his head to her and smiled. His smile was still charming, that's a fact. But it wasn't time to be mesmerisedby it.

"If you don't join me. I really might just jump. So, are you coming or not?" The man threatened her. This time Evee felt the urge to really walk closer. A sense of guilt also gripped it's way beneath her skin.

Without a choice, Evee slowly walked over to me. Her worried face shifted from him to the edge. She didn't know if she could trust him enough to really walk close to him. After all, this man was suicidal, who knew what else he was capable of. Walking closer to the man, she could notice him scanning every little movement she made. It wasn't in a bad way, just a way curious person would look at something with interest - or maybe that was her own wishful thinking.

A look of suspicion slowly became over the man's face. Did she do something? Did someone do something to him? Eitherway, he certainly wasn't a free spirit.

Evee finally reached the edge and held tightly. Shècould feel her strength vanish from her knees. It was as if her entire body's weight had increasedten fold in an instant. Looking over the edge made her head feel dizzy, so she avoided looking over. Her breath became heavy and her body began to tremble. Regardless, she tried to hide it. Evee didn't want the person she was helping to think she was scared of him.

He still looked at her trying to figure her out. Trust was definitelynot being formed here. That only made her uncomfortable and even more so... she felt sad for him. Clearly he had what many wanted, but why would he look so sad and devoid of trust?

She composed herself and looked him in the eye. Her gaze warm, and she was unconsciously drawn to him. The man's face seemed to calm down a but, but she couldn't be sure about it.

"Uhm... will you get off now?" She spoke with a calm voice. Clear without the heavy breaths of fear.

"My name is Lucien Quinzel. May I know who you are?" The man introduced himself to her. Yet another unexpected action from him. But courtesy should be repaid with courtesy.

"I am Evee. Evee Eloine Evergarden." She introduced herself, still maintaining the eye contact. She couldn't break away from his gaze.

A cold breeze of wind blew, pulling them out each other's gazes. Lucien turned away and cleared his throat before getting down from the edge.

Eve also turned away, covered her face and stood up with her back to the me. She could tell she was blushing from his words alone.

He took off his suit and put it on her. She didn't even notice her she was having chicken skin. Maybe her body was just too hot - or maybe her feelings.

"I think we should get going now. It's starting to get chilli out here." Lucien said without even thanking her. Somehow she suspected he wasn't even going to jump. How can someone who almost killed himself walk away from the place they almost died so nonchalantly.

She nodded to his words and they headed inside. As they walked down the stairs, Lucien's phone rang. She saw the word 'DOCTOR' on the screen of the call. Instead of a normal expression, Lucien was not too pleased by the call.

Even with sign of hesitation, he still took the call.

"Hey doctor.. it's been a while. How may I help you?" He faked excitement.

'...'

"I understand your concern doctor. Really, I do. However, as far as I have thought about this. It would be best I die the soonest possible. Goodbye." Lucien said as he cut the call and put his phone in his pocket.

It was wrong to listen to his conversation, but it couldn't be helped. But Evee was surprised, saddened amd disappointed. Hiw cam someone speak so nonchalantly about ending one's life?

"Do you really want to die?" She asked, covering her mouth.
