My Last Breath: A Dying Man's Love And Wish

Chapter 5: § Was It fate §

Like a good girl, Evee reluctantly decided to attend the ball. She opened her wardrobe and slowly browsed through her dresses. She pulled out the hanger with a red dress.

"This still looks good. Since it brings back good memories, maybe I should try it." She said moving her hamd along it's smooth fabric. The dress wasn't too expensive, but it definitely was fashionable. The material it was made of was also rather beautiful.

Evee took the dress and went to change into it. Unlike any other girl, she didn't use makeup. Just bare fine face. Taking the heels and handbag out. She found Marianne sitting on the table comfortably with a cup of yogurt filled to the brim. She silently and calm savored every scoop of the spoon.

Evee halted in her tracks and stared at her confused.

"You know I've been waiting for you. Are you finally ready to leave little sis?" Marianne asked without lifting her gaze from the cup of yogurt.

"Just so you know too, I really hope I won't regret doing this with you. Get up. Let's go?" Evee said walking to Marianne.

She picked up the car keys and dragged her sister out. She didn't even care to mind that she was forcing her to leave behind her snack. They two siblings then went on to the prestigious ball.

Stopping at the hotel entrance that had a red carpet rolled for guests, a hotel assistant came and drove their car to the parking space for them. As expected, the hotel was bustling with reporters and beautiful cars of the rich. People appeared to have been showcasing their most priced possessions.

From expensive cars, tuxedos, dresses amd even jewellery. Those in high positions also had their guards accompanying them. No one in the city was willing to miss the chance to be part of the ball. Maybe this was the reason why it was called the Prestigious Ball.

Evee and Marianne walked into the large hall of the hotel and the sight was just incredible. The setting of tables, the expensive wines and champagnes, the decorations on the ceilings including the glass chandlers and the carpet on the floor. This place had gone all out on this event.

Evee almost found herself gaping at the sight of the interior alone. When she came to her senses, she couldn't believe her eyes. Her sister friendly, yes. But this time, she really surprised her. She was waving and smiling with everyone to the point that she had caught the attention of almost every stranger they had come past from the second they entered.

"She's my sister but this girl is so going to get me into trouble one of this days." Evee though to herself silently. She could only sigh to herself and avert her gaze somewhere else.

At that moment, she saw a man standing alone. He seemed to have his mind drifting far beyond this room. Slowly and smoothly, he twirled the wine with only half the alorted wine.

His face was comforting and and looked mesmerising handsome. The fine cheekbone and smooth skin. His smooth skin and moist looking lips. His manly physique even under his clothing was evidently strong. This man must be a true work of art. No, work of art is something made in his image.

Evee found herself staring at him. She unconsciously licked her lips looking at him. Just as the man took a sip, her eyes snapped.

"Marianne, can you hold my purse for me. Find me before you leave. I'll just take a look around and meet you before you leave. Okay?" She said walking away from Marianne.

Passing by a table of wine stack, she took one and walked around the hall. Her central point was the man who captured her attention. She just had to see more of him.

What drew her to this stranger was his behaviour. He appeared to have no care for all this. The display of riches and pretense of friend making for businesses. He was a solo man.

After some time of observing him, her glass was empty. Evee turned to look for a waiter to fill up. One came past her and she switched her glass. When she returned her gaze, the man had put down his glass and headed towards the exit.

She decided to let him be and look for her sister. Just then, Marianne was leaving the dance floor with a man holding her hand. They also headed towards the exit, walking hand in hand like a couple. Evee put down her glass and followed after them.

Coming to the elevator which closed and the indicator going to the roof, she decided to go up by stairs. She might have stayed home a lot, but she was still athletic. That's one thing she was confident in.

Evee then ran the stairs like a madwoman. Surprisingly, she didn't even trip on her way up. Taking just about two minutes to the top.

"Marianne... Marianne... Marianne. You're so going to pay for this. You are so going to pay for having me run up these stairs. And you know just how much I hate highta. Yet you went all the way up there." She murmured to herself as she gasped for air know her way up.

In just a few steps, she reached the top. She took a deep breath and composed herself. Then she opened the door and walked out.

The cool city air hit her bare skin, cooling it from the marathon she just took.

She looked around, scanning for a trace of Marianne and her 'Partener'. To her disappointment, she was nowhere in sight.

But thanks to any Gods that looked over this, her running was awarded. Right in front her, at the edge of the building he stood.

He stretched out his hands and stood right on the edge. His foot... raised.

Wait. His foot was raised and he stood at the edge. Her eyes snapped.

'Stooooop...!" Evee shouted as loud as she could.

Slowly, she could feel her own heartbeat rate increase.
