My New Eyes Can See Through Clothes

Chapter 29: Food Market

The sun hung high in the clear sky as Jack, Samantha, and Lena stepped out of their apartment building and into the bustling city streets. The air was crisp with the faint scent of street food wafting through the breeze, and the excitement in the air was palpable. Lena was practically bouncing with energy, her blonde hair tied up in a high ponytail, swinging with each step she took. Dressed in a pair of denim jeans and a loose graphic tee, she radiated enthusiasm.

Samantha, in contrast, moved with grace, her purple hair falling neatly around her shoulders. She wore a simple sundress, light and airy, perfectly suited for the day ahead. Jack, walking between the two.

"So," Lena said, practically skipping ahead of them, "what are you two planning to try first? I mean, there's so much! I want dumplings, waffles, and maybe even those fancy ice cream rolls! Oh, and don't forget the giant pretzels!"

Jack chuckled, his hands in his pockets. "You've already got your whole menu planned out, huh?"

Lena turned back, walking backward as she grinned at Jack. "Of course! You don't come to the food market without a strategy. It's all about timing and pacing, Jack. Trust me, stick with me and you'll get the best of everything."

Samantha smiled softly, shaking her head. "Lena's not wrong. She's been coming to these markets for months. But you might want to pace yourself, Jack. It's easy to get overwhelmed if you try too much too soon."

Jack nodded, appreciating the advice. "Noted. I'll follow your lead."

As they turned the corner, the food market came into view, and Jack's eyes widened in awe. Stalls stretched out as far as the eye could see, vibrant banners and colorful signs advertising all kinds of street food—dumplings, noodles, skewers, waffles, and an assortment of snacks Jack couldn't even name. The crowd was thick, a lively buzz of chatter and laughter filling the air. The smell of sizzling meat, sweet pastries, and fresh fruit hit him all at once, making his stomach growl in anticipation.

"Whoa," Jack breathed, taking in the scene. "This place is huge."

Lena grinned, practically vibrating with excitement. "I know, right? It's like food heaven! Come on, let's start with something simple—dumplings!"

She grabbed Jack by the wrist and pulled him toward one of the stalls. The vendor, a middle-aged man with a wide smile, greeted them warmly as they approached.

"Hello! Fresh dumplings! Pork, chicken, or veggie—what'll it be?"

Lena, without hesitation, ordered a mix of pork and chicken dumplings, bouncing on her toes as she waited. Jack and Samantha stood beside her, taking in the sights and sounds of the market.

"So, Jack," Samantha said, her voice calm but curious, "is this your first time at a food market?"

Jack nodded, glancing around. "Yeah, I've never been to one this big before. It's... kind of overwhelming, but in a good way."

Samantha smiled knowingly. "It's easy to get lost in the crowd. Just stick with us."

Before Jack could reply, Lena interrupted, holding out a steaming tray of dumplings. "Here we go! First stop: dumplings!"

She handed Jack and Samantha their portions before popping one into her mouth. Her eyes lit up immediately. "Mmm, these are so good. Try them!"

Jack took a cautious bite, the savory flavors of pork and ginger hitting his taste buds instantly. He couldn't help but smile. "Wow, this is really good."

Samantha, ever the composed one, took a small bite and nodded in approval. "They are. The ginger adds a nice touch."

Lena beamed, clearly pleased with their reactions. "Told you! And we're just getting started."

As they continued through the market, Lena's energy never waned. She darted from stall to stall, sampling everything from skewers of grilled meat to stuffed buns. Each time she handed something to Jack, her eyes sparkled with excitement, eager to share her love of the food market with him.

At one point, they found themselves in front of a stall selling enormous fried squid on sticks. Jack eyed the skewers skeptically, while Lena grabbed one without hesitation.

"Come on, Jack," Lena teased, waving the squid in front of him. "You've got to try this. It's an experience."

Jack raised an eyebrow. "That thing is massive. Are you sure I won't regret this?"

Lena laughed, taking a big bite out of her squid. "You'll love it! Trust me, it's a crowd favorite."

Samantha, who had chosen not to partake in the squid, watched with amusement as Jack took a tentative bite. His eyes widened in surprise.

"Okay, that's... actually pretty good," he admitted, much to Lena's delight.

"Told you!" Lena said triumphantly, waving the skewer like a trophy.

Samantha chuckled, her eyes crinkling at the corners. "I'm impressed, Jack. Most people hesitate when it comes to squid on a stick."

Jack grinned sheepishly. "Yeah, well, I'm trying to be adventurous today."

As they continued their journey through the market, they stopped by a dessert stall, where Lena insisted they try the ice cream rolls she had been talking about earlier. The vendor expertly spread out the ice cream mixture on a freezing cold slab, rolling it into perfect spirals and topping it with fresh fruit and chocolate drizzle.

Lena was practically bouncing in place as she watched. "This is the best part. Look how pretty it is!"

Jack had to admit, the ice cream did look impressive. When they finally got their bowls, he took a bite, savoring the creamy, sweet flavor. It was a perfect balance of rich and refreshing.

"I've got to hand it to you, Lena," Jack said, licking his spoon. "You've got great taste in food."

Lena puffed out her chest, clearly proud of herself. "Well, duh. I'm a food market pro. Stick with me, and you'll never go hungry."

Samantha, ever the calm one, smiled warmly. "You do have a knack for finding the best stalls, Lena."

Lena grinned, but then her eyes widened as she spotted something in the distance. "Oh my god, guys! Giant pretzels! We have to get one!"

Jack and Samantha exchanged amused glances as Lena practically dragged them toward the pretzel stall. The vendor, a burly man with a thick mustache, was rolling out dough the size of Jack's head.

"Giant pretzels, huh?" Jack said, eyeing the enormous coils of dough.

Lena nodded enthusiastically. "Trust me, Jack. This is the grand finale. We'll share it—it's too big for one person anyway."

They ordered a pretzel, which was so large it came on a wooden board. Lena carried it triumphantly to a nearby bench, where they sat down to eat. The pretzel was golden brown, sprinkled generously with salt, and served with a side of tangy mustard.

As they tore into the soft, chewy bread, Jack couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity of it all. "This thing is ridiculous. But it's really good."

Lena was grinning from ear to ear, a piece of pretzel in hand. "Ridiculously good, you mean."

Samantha, who had taken a more modest bite, nodded in agreement. "It's definitely worth the hype."

As they sat there, enjoying their meal and watching the crowds pass by, the conversation turned back to their plans for the rest of the weekend.

"So, what's next after this?" Jack asked, wiping his hands on a napkin.

Lena shrugged, leaning back against the bench. "We could go to the arcade, like I said earlier. Or maybe just walk around the park for a bit. I'm pretty full, though."

Samantha tilted her head thoughtfully. "A walk sounds nice. We could head to the gardens. It's nearby, and it's a good way to unwind after all this food."

Jack nodded, liking the idea. "I'm up for anything. It's been a great day so far."

Lena smiled, her eyes twinkling. "See, Jack? I told you we'd have fun. And we're not even done yet."
