Chapter 17: Chapter 17

"I'm awake, Aunt Pepper!"

"Good, you're up. I have some good news to tell you."

On the other end of the phone, Pepper sounded unusually cheerful. Even over the call, Eren could clearly hear the excitement in her voice.

"Good news? Could it be about my issue being resolved?"

"Hahaha, clever Eren, you guessed it right." After a brief pause, Pepper continued, "The culprit behind your kidnapping and that of your classmate was a gang entrenched in the docklands."

"Over the past couple of days, I've leveraged Stark Industries' connections to contact a city councilman. Through his influence in the city government, we've been pressuring that gang. On top of that, Director George has been consistently causing them trouble, giving them enough of a deterrent. Just this morning, they sent someone to assure us they won't bother you two anymore."

Although Eren had speculated something along these lines after leaving the Morning Star Bar last night, he hadn't expected the resolution to come this quickly.

After all, the Morning Star Bar was the Water Ghost Gang's stronghold.

Most of the Water Ghost Gang members usually gathered there. When the contamination from the forbidden object "Moonlight DJ" erupted, a significant number of the gang members were caught in the bar at the time.

As a result, many of them perished due to the effects of "Moonlight DJ," greatly weakening the gang's power. This sudden vulnerability exposed them to the opportunistic gaze of surrounding rival gangs.

With wolves circling, the Water Ghost Gang now struggled to retain their turf, let alone make trouble for Eren.

"This really is good news!"

On the other end, Pepper breathed a sigh of relief and chuckled, "Yes, now you can rest easy. The school also called me earlier, so you should return to classes tomorrow. There's only half a semester left before you graduate high school. If you want to get into a good university, you don't have much time to waste."

Eren was taken aback.

Seriously? The Water Ghost Gang situation had just been resolved, and now he was being rushed back to school?

That was… something.

Shaking his head helplessly, Eren replied, "Alright, Aunt Pepper. I'll go back to school tomorrow."

Before last night, Eren had been considering giving up on school entirely to focus on quickly growing stronger. After all, this was the perilous Marvel Universe, where survival depended on power.

But after flipping through The Nutritionist's Compendium last night, Eren realized that he needed a more systematic understanding of botany and biology.

Creating the serums detailed in the book required a strong foundation of theoretical knowledge, particularly to navigate the differences in nomenclature and classifications of plants and animals between this world and his original one.

He needed to spend time and effort identifying cross-world equivalents before he could start producing those miraculous formulas.

On the phone, Pepper seemed to pick up on Eren's reluctant tone and let out a soft laugh.

After giving Eren a few final reminders, Pepper quickly hung up.

As Tony Stark's personal assistant, her workload was far from light. She always had a mountain of tasks waiting for her, especially given the recent chaos surrounding Stark Industries. The fact that she had taken time out to resolve Eren's troubles showed how much effort she had put in.

On the other end, Eren stared at the phone in thought.

For the Water Ghost Gang to fold so quickly, the incident at the Morning Star Bar must have hit them hard. They were likely struggling just to stay afloat. Otherwise, they wouldn't have rushed to reassure Pepper so early in the morning.

With the gang weakened and on the defensive, would this be the perfect opportunity to wipe them out for good?

Following S.H.I.E.L.D.'s lead during the Morning Star Bar incident, Eren had managed to glimpse several key pieces of information about the Water Ghost Gang.

The gang's leader, Onik, nicknamed "The Giant Ghost," had built the gang with his own hands. Known for his brawn, cunning, and fearless personality, Onik had carved out a foothold for the gang in the docks.

Onik had been absent from the Morning Star Bar that night, narrowly escaping the disaster. But three of the gang's four top lieutenants had been present and were killed.

With most of their leaders and rank-and-file members gone, the gang was now left with only Onik and his brother-in-law, nicknamed "Seaweed."

If Eren could take out these two, the gang would collapse into chaos.

The surrounding gangs, smelling blood in the water, would swoop in like sharks, tearing the Water Ghost Gang apart. That would eliminate the threat entirely.

The thought sent a dangerous glint through Eren's eyes.

Now that their power was diminished, Onik would have no choice but to send his remaining lackeys to guard their territory, leaving himself relatively unprotected.

This was the perfect time to strike.

And with the Seeker Origami Crane in his possession, Eren could find Onik no matter where he tried to hide.

With determination in his gaze, Eren muttered to himself, "If that's the case, let's put an end to this once and for all."

As nightfall approached, Eren roamed the alleys of Chinatown, carefully purchasing the items he thought he might need for the night's mission.

By the time darkness fully descended, Eren, now in disguise, silently slipped out of his three-story home.

Avoiding the street cameras at intersections, he followed the guidance of the Seeker Origami Crane in his hand.

Step by step, he moved closer to Onik's location.
