Chapter 29: Chapter 29: Completely Stunned the Nine-Tails
The Nine-Tails' slit pupils fixed on Naruto, its voice low and gruff:
"You truly want to release me?"
"That's right. Too bad I'm just a kid—I don't have the strength to open this gate right now."
Naruto's senses were on high alert, allowing him to catch the subtle shift in the Nine-Tails' tone.
Sure enough, as soon as Naruto said this, a flicker of longing appeared in the beast's crimson eyes.
"Brat, slip through the crack in the gate. Don't resist, and I'll lend you the power to open it easily."
The yearning for freedom grew in the Nine-Tails' gaze. Its voice softened, almost coaxing, a stark contrast to its usual ferocity.
"Oh," Naruto said, nodding innocently as he took two steps forward.
The Nine-Tails' eyes glimmered with unrestrained killing intent and uncontainable yearning for freedom.
"Closer… that's it. Step inside, and don't resist. Let me take control of your body."
Just as Naruto was about to step through the gate, he suddenly stopped.
"What's the matter, brat? Come in, and I'll grant you unmatched power. With my strength, you can take revenge on those villagers who despise and loathe you."
The Nine-Tails, unused to the notion of hope, felt an uncharacteristic surge of anxiety when Naruto halted.
"Oh, right—can you tell me who put this gate here?" Naruto asked curiously.
"Hmph, don't bother with that. Just follow my instructions and step inside," the beast growled, a hint of displeasure and command in its tone.
Naruto suppressed a laugh and feigned a look of difficulty.
"That won't do. Grandpa Fourth told me to always be a polite and well-mannered child," Naruto said with mock seriousness. "He specifically warned me never to trust a fox trapped behind a gate. You may be a dog, but I still can't let you out without the owner's permission."
His words hung in the air, plunging the chamber into an eerie silence.
"If you won't say, I guess I'll just leave. Maybe I'll visit you next time if I have some free time," Naruto added, turning as if to leave.
"It was Namikaze Minato who sealed me here," the Nine-Tails finally admitted.
In their first battle of wits, Naruto claimed total victory.
Hearing the beast reluctantly confess under his verbal pressure, Naruto felt a surge of satisfaction.
"Namikaze Minato… I've never heard of him before. What kind of person is he?"
"A detestable man—the one I want to kill the most!"
The Nine-Tails' voice seethed with hatred. Being the embodiment of malice, it seldom masked its emotions. The earlier restraint it displayed toward Naruto was the result of decades of grudging introspection.
As Naruto refused to take another step closer to the sealed gate, the beast's bottled-up resentment erupted like a volcano.
The massive fox pressed its enormous snout against the iron gate, its monstrous head fully visible as its scarlet, slit pupils bore into the boy.
A deep, guttural growl reverberated through the chamber, causing Naruto's face to pale. Unable to suppress his fear, he stumbled back three steps and fell into the shallow water.
Unlike his calculated remarks earlier, this was a genuine reaction to terror.
The original Naruto may have been animated, but here, the Nine-Tails was undeniably real. The chasm between two-dimensional visuals and three-dimensional presence was staggering.
"Naruto… help me tear down this seal, and I'll grant your every wish," the beast said, suppressing its fury upon noticing the boy's frightened expression.
"Wow, you're so majestic! I really like you," Naruto exclaimed, his fear instantly replaced with admiration as his eyes sparkled with awe.
"…What did you just say?"
For the first time in its long existence, the Nine-Tails was utterly dumbfounded.
Since its creation, only the Sage of Six Paths had ever recognized and praised it. After his death, the tailed beasts had wandered freely for a few decades before being enslaved or sealed, treated as tools of war.
Never did the Nine-Tails imagine being complimented—let alone called beautiful—by a child.
"Ridiculous! I'm male. What beauty?" it barked, its embarrassment masked by a gruff retort.
Naruto noted the beast's reaction and felt a burst of glee. His knowledge of the characters' personalities gave him an edge, allowing him to exploit their weaknesses effortlessly.
"Male? So you're a manly fox?" Naruto tilted his head curiously. "Oh, I haven't introduced myself yet. My name is Uzumaki Naruto, the future Hokage. What about you? Do you have a name?"
The Nine-Tails hesitated, reluctant to answer. But the boy's apparent ignorance of its identity made it believe that humility might increase its chances of escape.
Hiding its tails in the shadows, the Nine-Tails suppressed its pride.
"Woof… woof," it barked, imitating a dog's sound with awkward unfamiliarity.
"You may address me as Lord Hu!" it declared, its pride taking a hit. Fortunately, its orange fur concealed any sign of embarrassment.
"Lord… Hu?" Naruto echoed, momentarily stunned.
"Brat, I've told you my name. Now tear down that seal for me," the Nine-Tails said, its blood-red eyes locked on the boy with desperation.
Naruto hesitated. Entering the gate was out of the question. Handing over control of his body was even less likely. As for breaking the seal? That would be suicidal.
Just as he prepared to reply, a piercing alarm jolted him awake.
Naruto's consciousness shattered, dissolving into fragments as his physical body was roused by the incessant sound.
The Nine-Tails roared furiously as Naruto vanished before its eyes.
"Damn you, Hiruzen Sarutobi! Damn you, Namikaze Minato! You're all going to pay!"
Dark red chakra flared within the chamber, raging for an extended period before subsiding.
Finally, the beast's scarlet eyes closed, consumed by darkness.
"Uzumaki Naruto… you're treated like this by Konoha. My opportunity will come eventually…"
At 4:30 a.m., Naruto awoke to the maddening blare of his alarm.
"Well, that's a night of sleep wasted," he muttered, sighing as he stretched in bed.
Yet his mind lingered on the encounter with the Nine-Tails.
"How interesting. Despite being sealed for generations, it's grown more cunning. It even tried to manipulate me," he mused, smirking.
"Lord Hu?" Naruto chuckled as he leapt out of bed, energized.
He opened the balcony door and gazed at the pre-dawn village. Stretching his arms wide, he shouted into the distance:
"I'm going to be Hokage!"
The declaration echoed, reverberating across Konoha.
Meanwhile, a familiar notification chimed:
[Ding! You've received 1 point of negative emotion from a Konoha villager!]
[Ding! You've received 1 point of negative emotion from a Konoha villager!]
[Ding! You've received 1 point of negative emotion from a Konoha villager!]
...
Awoken by Naruto's loud shout, the villagers began their day with warm and heartfelt curses directed at his ancestors going back eighteen generations.
Starting the morning with a haul of 100 negative emotion points, Naruto's face broke into a sunny smile as he turned and headed back into his room.
"Ah, another day bursting with potential," he remarked cheerfully.
After a quick wash and some light grooming, he slung his canvas bag, loaded with ninja tools, over his shoulder and dashed off toward the training grounds at full speed.
