Chapter 31: Chapter 31: Preparing Ahead—Who Can Resist This Kind of Sasuke?
Seeing Naruto staying silent, his right middle finger twitching up and down, Sasuke—no matter how clueless—could now understand why Naruto often did this.
"Are you practicing your hand seal speed in advance?"
"Not entirely," Naruto replied, turning his head with a grin. "I'm training my finger dexterity to lay a foundation for practicing ninjutsu."
"Oh? How long have you been practicing?"
Seeing Sasuke's persistence in getting to the bottom of it, Naruto answered casually, "Oh, about ten years... No, wait, three years."
[Ding! Received 100 Shock Points from Sasuke.]
"Three years... You've been preparing for ninjutsu practice for three years in advance?" Sasuke looked at Naruto in astonishment.
"Yep."
Naruto, almost slipping up, wiped an invisible bead of sweat. In his previous life, he had worked multiple summer jobs on assembly lines. Due to the nature of the work, his ten fingers had to maintain high-frequency, high-speed movements for extended periods. Over time, his hand speed became remarkably impressive.
"Do you know the seals for the Fireball Jutsu?"
Naruto's question instantly piqued Sasuke's curiosity.
Having watched Naruto twice in his previous life, he may not know other jutsu techniques well, but he was indeed familiar with the seals for Fireball Jutsu.
"Well, I know a bit."
It wasn't that Naruto wanted to show off, but Sasuke was simply too... irresistible.
Ordinary villagers in Konoha only provided Naruto with 1 point of negative emotion at a time. Ordinary classmates gave him just 10 Shock Points at most.
But Sasuke? Never stingy—always starting at three digits. Who could resist that?
"I want to compete with you in seal speed," Sasuke said, his fighting spirit igniting.
"Huh?" Naruto responded, feigning disinterest. He played hard to get. "I'm not interested in competitions with no stakes."
"Hmph, what do you want as stakes then?" Sasuke pouted.
Seeing Sasuke put on such an adorably irritated expression, Naruto couldn't help but tease, "Alright then, if I win, you have to kiss me."
Hearing this wager, Sasuke's face immediately turned red as she glared at Naruto. "You're just like the others, hmph!"
Naruto shrugged. "Tch, who cares? Forget I said anything."
Initially thinking Naruto was like Ino, Sakura, and the other boys who chased after her, Sasuke didn't expect him to lose interest the moment she refused.
"You..."
As Naruto walked ahead, ignoring her without pestering, Sasuke began to suspect—was Naruto uninterested because he lacked confidence in winning?
After only two days of interaction, Sasuke had already lost to Naruto multiple times. This only fueled her fighting spirit.
"Hmph, I agree. Let's compete!"
Stopping in her tracks, Sasuke fixed Naruto with a determined gaze.
"Heh, are you sure? No regrets?" Naruto stopped and turned to face her.
"The Uchiha clan never regrets our decisions."
Seeing Sasuke's stubbornness, Naruto grew serious. "Alright!"
The two stood facing each other, their gazes locked.
Naruto pulled a coin from his pocket and tossed it into the air. Both focused intently on the spinning coin.
Ding!
The coin landed with a crisp sound.
Almost at the instant the coin touched the ground, both began weaving hand seals at lightning speed.
Fireball Jutsu, a basic fire-style ninjutsu, required only six seals: Snake → Ram → Monkey → Boar → Horse → Tiger.
Sasuke's hands moved like a blur, rapidly forming the seals. Completing all six took her about two seconds.
"Fire Style: Fireball Jut—"
Before she could finish her incantation, another voice interrupted, "Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu!"
Sasuke stared in disbelief at Naruto, who had already completed his seals and mimicked the technique's activation.
"My seals take about two seconds. Accumulating chakra and expelling it as a fireball would add up to at least three seconds total. Yet he managed to compress everything into two seconds?"
Sasuke murmured to herself, momentarily dazed.
"Looks like I've got a slight edge, Sasuke," Naruto said with a faint smile.
Truthfully, he could've been even faster, but it wasn't necessary. Winning against Sasuke was enough.
With his full capabilities, Naruto could finish the seals, gather chakra, and unleash the jutsu within 1.5 seconds. But this wasn't a life-or-death battle, just a bet with Sasuke. So, he held back.
Seeing Sasuke's downcast expression, Naruto chuckled. "I only beat you by a tiny margin. Don't tell me this will crush your spirit?"
Not taking it seriously, Naruto turned away, slinging his canvas bag over his shoulder.
Watching Naruto walk off without holding her to the wager or gloating, Sasuke couldn't help but feel conflicted.
"He only beat me by a little. I still have a chance... a chance..."
Blushing furiously, Sasuke quickened her steps to catch up with Naruto. Accepting her loss, she tugged on his hand from behind.
To Naruto, the wager had been a joke. He never intended to take advantage of Sasuke. If he had, he would've demanded it after winning.
Feeling Sasuke grab his arm, Naruto turned to see her flushed face.
"There's no need," he said, his tone soft. "I was just joking. You don't have to."
But boys and girls often think differently.
Naruto's words only made Sasuke believe he was subtly implying she couldn't afford to lose, something her pride couldn't accept.
"Hmph, the Uchiha clan can handle defeat," she declared.
Before Naruto could react, Sasuke wrapped her arms around his neck and planted a quick kiss on his cheek.
The icy softness of her lips barely lingered before she pulled away. Naruto, feeling the warmth on his face, instinctively took a step back.
"Uh... I meant on the lips. Isn't this cutting corners, just kissing my cheek?"
Sasuke had been so embarrassed she wanted to flee, but Naruto's cheeky remark made her glare at him.
"Hmph, that's your fault for not clarifying earlier!" she retorted, pouting.
"Fair point," Naruto admitted with a laugh. "How about we go again? If you lose this time, it's a kiss on the lips."
Naruto's teasing tone made Sasuke's face flush an even deeper red.
"Hmph, I'll challenge you again in a few days!" Sasuke declared before storming off.
Sasuke finished speaking and walked ahead, seemingly not wanting Naruto to notice her blushing cheeks.
Naruto, sensing the moment, decided to let things be and followed at a leisurely pace.
About ten minutes later, Sasuke arrived at Naruto's home.
Looking around the sparse, quiet room that bore such a resemblance to her own, she couldn't help but feel a newfound sense of recognition and understanding toward Naruto.
While Naruto went to take a bath, Sasuke stood alone on the second-floor balcony, gazing at the scenery of Konoha. Her eyes lingered on the Hokage Rock at the edge of her vision, lost in thought.
Though young and not entirely familiar with the achievements of the previous Hokage, she understood one thing clearly: if she could reach their level of strength, she would be able to avenge her family and clan, killing that heartless woman.
As she stared at the Hokage Rock, she replayed her 1,030th mental simulation of killing Itachi.
Suddenly, a startled cry from downstairs shattered her train of thought.
"Sasuke... Why... why are you at Naruto's house?"
