Chapter 127: Chapter 125: Lying in Wait

Chapter 125: Lying in Wait

The chaos unfolding in the Uchiha compound made Minato Namikaze's expression grow darker. He couldn't understand why Danzo would act so recklessly.

Was it solely to weaken the Uchiha clan's power?

But such blatant actions would only drive the Uchiha further away, ultimately harming the interests of Konoha as a whole.

Did Danzo not see this?

Of course, Danzo was aware, but he cared more about his own agenda than Konoha's well-being.

This time, inciting the Uchiha to fight among themselves wasn't just about reducing their strength—it was also an opportunity for him to obtain something he coveted: Obito's Mangekyo Sharingan.

Yes, it was as simple as that.

Ever since Danzo implanted Sharingan into himself, he had been enthralled by their power, and the allure of a Mangekyo Sharingan was too tempting to ignore.

Although the odds of obtaining it were slim, the potential reward far outweighed the cost.

So, as soon as he received the intel, he wasted no time bringing his men to the scene.

As for who tipped him off...

In the distance, Baishi stood concealed among the branches, suppressing his presence to the point of blending perfectly into the surroundings.

Indeed, the informant was Baishi himself.

After deducing Obito's plan, Baishi had followed the Uchiha's movements and watched as they organized their defection plans.

Though he couldn't fully discern Obito's motives, it didn't matter. Baishi's goal was simple: disrupt Obito's strategy.

And who better to stir up chaos than Danzo, the "King of Pot-Stirring"?

As expected, Danzo's arrival and a single inflammatory remark had thrown the situation into turmoil.

In this chaos, Baishi simply needed to wait for the right moment to strike.

He knew neither Fugaku nor Minato—and certainly not Danzo—would allow Obito to escape.

At the same time, Obito wasn't one to retreat quietly.

Baishi's observations had already revealed a carefully chosen timing for Obito's actions: both Jiraiya and Orochimaru were currently absent from the village. This was no coincidence.

Sure enough, after the battle commenced, Obito suddenly lunged toward Minato.

If Minato were to die here, regardless of who landed the fatal blow, the Uchiha would undoubtedly be blamed. The result? Civil war within Konoha.

But Minato wasn't so easily defeated. The battle between the two quickly escalated into a heated exchange of blows.

"Obito," Minato called out mid-fight, "come back. I know you're not a bad person. Whatever is troubling you, we can face it together, just like we always have."

Obito ignored him entirely, attacking with relentless ferocity, as though trying to vent years of pent-up anger.

"Do you know what Kakashi has been through these past two years?" Minato pressed on. "He lost you, and then he lost Rin. Can you imagine his pain?"

Hearing Rin's name pushed Obito over the edge. With a furious roar, he unleashed a massive surge of chakra.

Bones formed first, followed by muscles, veins, and armor, until finally, an enormous humanoid figure clad in blue armor stood tall and imposing.

Seeing the intimidating figure, Uchiha Setsuna murmured in awe, "Susanoo… it's been so long since I've seen it."

Indeed, Obito had unleashed the legendary power of the Mangekyo Sharingan: Susanoo.

The sheer presence of the giant figure froze everyone in place. Even Baishi, observing from a distance, was momentarily stunned.

"Susanoo in its third stage already?" Baishi muttered, clicking his tongue in surprise. "Good thing I didn't act rashly. Let's see how Minato handles this."

In the battlefield below, Obito manipulated Susanoo to stomp down at Minato with massive force.

The size difference was overwhelming, forcing Minato to rely on his Flying Thunder God technique to evade each attack.

But Obito's relentless assault continued unabated, sending shockwaves through the compound.

Baishi shook his head as he observed the scene.

"To most shinobi, this kind of area attack would be devastating. But to someone as agile as Minato, it's little more than an inconvenience."

Though Obito's attacks were powerful, they were also uncoordinated and wasteful. Minato's speed made it nearly impossible for any of the strikes to connect.

Likewise, Minato found himself unable to counterattack effectively.

"Maybe it's time I gave him a little help…" Baishi murmured to himself. But then he hesitated.

What if Minato hesitated to strike a fatal blow?

Minato's earlier pleas and his usual conduct strongly suggested that he wouldn't deliver a killing blow, even if the opportunity arose.

This was problematic. If Obito survived and realized he was being targeted, he would become even more cautious. Taking him down would become significantly harder.

No, the opportunity for a decisive strike could only come once.

Just then, Baishi noticed several Root operatives circling Obito. They seemed to be preparing some sort of sealing jutsu.

And then there was Danzo, watching Obito like a hawk, his eyes burning with greed.

In that moment, Baishi realized the real reason for Danzo's presence.

"So that's why he's so eager… He's after the Mangekyo Sharingan."

Unlike Minato, Danzo had no qualms about striking to kill. If an opportunity presented itself, Danzo would undoubtedly go for the kill to claim the Mangekyo for himself.

"Maybe I can use this…"

With that thought, Baishi quietly slipped away, locking onto a Flying Thunder God marker outside the village.

In an instant, his figure disappeared.
