Chapter 118: Chapter 118: Reforming the Police Force

Mirai returned home and looked at the neatly made bed, nodding in satisfaction.

Having someone to keep him company every night was a condition he'd set for Mikoto.

After all, having a woman take care of the house was a luxury he thoroughly enjoyed. Life alone hadn't felt unbearable before, but now that he'd experienced this kind of comfort, Mirai was unwilling to go back to his solitary days.

"Mirai, soak your feet first," Mikoto said, kneeling gracefully as she brought a steaming basin of water to his feet.

Mirai didn't refuse and enjoyed her care as if it were only natural.

However, as the foot bath continued, the roles unexpectedly began to reverse.

"Mirai, your feet are dirty…"

"That's why I need to clean them properly."

"I-I already washed them myself earlier."

"Is that so? Then I'll have to check if you did a thorough job."

"Ugh… but this feels so strange…"

The next morning, when Mirai woke up, the room was once again empty save for himself.

Looking at the prepared breakfast on the table, he didn't dwell on it too much. Change took time, and he believed that eventually, Mikoto would belong to him—body and soul.

After a quick meal, he headed to the Konoha Police Force headquarters.

Summoning Inaho, Tetsuka, Hachida Mirai got straight to the point.

"Starting today, we're reforming the Konoha Police Force."

"Reform?"

The three Uchihas exchanged confused looks.

"Leader Mirai, the Police Force's reputation has already improved significantly. Our clan members are gradually gaining the villagers' acceptance," Inaho said. "Why the sudden need for reform?"

Meeting their puzzled gazes, Mirai explained calmly, "The current situation is only temporary."

"Recently, we won the goodwill of many civilians by arresting the Hokage Advisor's grandson. Plus, it's been less than a year since the Third Shinobi War ended, so the villagers are still grateful to us."

"But wars don't last forever, and the elites' children won't cause trouble every day. Over time, the main conflicts will be among ordinary villagers."

"Kindness and gratitude are the easiest emotions to forget. Meanwhile, petty grievances accumulate over time, leaving lasting impressions."

"In the end, the villagers' perception of the Uchiha will revert to what it once was."

Mirai's expression turned colder. "The Police Force itself is a trap laid by the Second Hokage. There's no need to cling to the current system."

Hearing this, the others exchanged understanding glances.

After a moment, Hachida asked, "Mirai-sama, what kind of reform do you have in mind? We'll support you fully."

"Starting today, we'll recruit members from outside the clan. All lower-level officers will be replaced by ninja from the village," Mirai said, placing a scroll on the table. "I've drafted an initial plan here—review it and make any necessary adjustments."

"Yes!"

After the meeting, Mirai left the Police Force building and headed directly to the Inuzuka clan grounds.

There, he met Inuzuka Tsume, the current head of the clan.

With her short, spiky brown hair, wild eyes, and red facial markings, Tsume had a fierce, imposing presence.

As Mirai studied her, Tsume was doing the same to him.

Though slender, Mirai's frame exuded strength. His deep black eyes were unreadable, and the pressure radiating from him was palpable.

After a moment of silence, Tsume broke the ice. "Mirai, to what do I owe the pleasure of this visit?"

"I'm here to discuss a potential partnership," Mirai replied bluntly.

"Partnership?" Tsume raised an eyebrow in confusion.

Mirai smiled faintly. "The era of Sarutobi Hiruzen and Shimura Danzo is over. The future belongs to the Uchiha."

Tsume's eyes narrowed, her voice cautious. "Mirai… are you planning a coup?"

She'd heard rumors about Mirai's recent actions—arresting the Hokage Advisor's grandsons, executing six Root members, and imprisoning Uchiha Fugaku. Coupled with the sudden disappearance of several Uchiha shinobi, it wasn't hard to piece together his intentions.

Mirai chuckled. "Tsume, 'coup' is the wrong word. If that were my goal, I wouldn't waste time seeking alliances with clans like yours."

"What do you mean?"

Patiently, Mirai repeated what he had shared with Aburame Shibi the night before.

When he finished, Tsume's jaw dropped. "Are you saying all of that is true?"

Mirai nodded. "Of course. And I'll ensure you see the truth for yourself."

Tsume took a deep breath, her expression resolute.

"If what you say proves true, the Inuzuka clan will stand behind you, just like Shibi said."

Satisfied, Mirai nodded. "In that case, I'll take my leave."

"Mom!"

A lively voice called from outside, and a cheerful, energetic girl burst into the room.

When her eyes landed on Mirai, she froze, staring at him in awe.

"You are…?"

"Uchiha Mirai, Leader of the Konoha Police Force," he introduced himself, extending a hand.

The girl stammered, "I-Inuzuka Hana. I'm… my mom's daughter."

Hana felt her heart racing. The man she'd idolized for so long was standing right in front of her, in her own home, on such an ordinary morning.

Damn it, Mom! Why didn't you warn me in advance?!

"Hana," Tsume teased, "you've always admired Mirai. Why so quiet now that he's here?"

"Mom!" Hana stomped her foot in embarrassment, her face turning red.
