Chapter 117: Chapter 117: A Once-in-a-Lifetime Opportunity
As Mirai entered the room, Aburame Shibi felt cold sweat breaking out across his forehead.
A person's reputation precedes them.
For Uchiha Mirai to visit him so late at night, it could hardly mean anything good.
"Clan Head Shibi, you seem... rather tense," Mirai teased, a faint smile tugging at the corner of his lips.
Shibi forced out a stiff smile in response. "Given the power you displayed earlier, who wouldn't be on edge?"
Mirai chuckled lightly. "That was my Boil Release Kekkei Genkai."
"You've heard about it, haven't you?" Mirai casually settled into the seat across from Shibi. "My eyes can copy Kekkei Genkai."
Shibi's heart skipped a beat under the pressure of Mirai's intense gaze. The overwhelming presence emanating from those eyes was unlike anything he had ever experienced.
As the new head of the Aburame Clan, Shibi had always been confident in his abilities. He'd harbored quiet skepticism toward the legends surrounding Uchiha Mirai, even feeling a twinge of competitiveness.
But now, face-to-face with him, Shibi realized how insignificant he was.
It felt as though those piercing eyes could see through every thought, and their owner could claim his life at any moment.
Struggling to maintain his composure, Shibi spoke cautiously. "Mirai, perhaps it's best if you state your purpose directly."
Mirai smiled and got straight to the point. "I've heard that Danzo Shimura recently took a promising young talent from the Aburame Clan. Is that true?"
Shibi hesitated, unsure of Mirai's intentions, before nodding. "That's correct."
"What's the child's name?" Mirai asked.
"Torune," Shibi replied, his tone tinged with frustration. "Aburame Torune."
Torune, the son of Shibi Aburame, had demonstrated astonishing talent, mastering the control of nano-sized venomous insects at a very young age. Shibi had envisioned Torune as the future cornerstone of their clan.
But just a few days ago, Danzo Shimura had shown up unannounced and forcibly taken Torune away in the name of the Third Hokage.
As Shibi's hands unconsciously clenched into fists, Mirai tapped the table lightly.
"A clan prodigy condemned to fall into darkness. And you, as the clan head, bury your resentment and dare not show it. Do you think that's acceptable?"
"You're well aware of what Danzo's Root organization entails, aren't you?"
"This isn't the first time, and it won't be the last. Are you really willing to let the hopes of the Aburame Clan be extinguished, one by one, at the hands of people like Danzo Shimura?"
Though Aburame Torune had little presence in the original storyline, his strength left a lasting impression. His nano-venomous insects were incredibly dangerous, and he possessed the power of an elite Jōnin.
During the battle against Obito Uchiha, Torune had even deduced the nature of Obito's Kamui in just a single exchange—a level of battle intellect rivaling Namikaze Minato.
To have such a talent taken by Danzo was an injustice that Mirai couldn't imagine Shibi would accept without protest.
"Mirai, I understand your point," Shibi said after a long pause. "But I can't lead the Aburame Clan to openly oppose the Hokage. You should leave."
Mirai chuckled softly at his response. "Clan Head Shibi, you overestimate your importance."
"All I need is for your clan to stand with the Uchiha when the time comes. That's your only value to me," Mirai continued with a sharp edge in his tone. "After all, your power is insignificant to me."
"Konohagakure was founded by the Uchiha Clan. I'm simply reclaiming what rightfully belongs to us. That's all."
Shibi found himself speechless at Mirai's audacious words. His ambitions seemed far greater than Shibi had anticipated.
After a moment of silence, Shibi asked cautiously, "Even if I were to agree, what about the other clans? The Aburame alone wouldn't be enough to achieve what you're proposing."
"What about the likes of the Ino-Shika-Chō trio? They're staunch supporters of the Hokage. How do you intend to sway them?"
Mirai's lips curled into a confident smirk, as though he had anticipated the question.
"Orochimaru's human experiments are secretly supported by Danzo Shimura."
"The public believes the test subjects are death row criminals and orphans, but the truth... is far darker."
Shibi's expression shifted sharply, and he slammed his hand on the table.
"Are you saying—?!"
Mirai's voice remained calm, even as the implications of his words grew more chilling.
"Exactly. Your clan's shinobi have also been used as test subjects."
"I'll ask you again. What will you choose?"
After a long silence, Shibi replied solemnly, "If you can provide proof, the Aburame Clan will stand with you. That's a promise."
No shinobi clan would tolerate its members being used as experimental fodder—especially clans with unique Kekkei Genkai or secret techniques.
If Danzo had truly committed such atrocities, the other clans wouldn't continue supporting him, either.
"Good." Mirai stood and walked toward the door. "When the time comes, I'll present the evidence to everyone."
"And when that day arrives, Clan Head Shibi, I hope you won't forget today's promise."
As Mirai's figure disappeared into the shadows, Shibi called out, "Mirai, aren't you worried I might report this to the Hokage?"
Without turning back, Mirai waved dismissively. "Do as you like, but let me remind you of one thing..."
"One wrong step could spell the end for your entire clan. The choice is yours, Clan Head Shibi. Think carefully. This might be your only chance in this lifetime."
Watching Mirai vanish, Shibi let out a bitter laugh.
In just a few moments of conversation, he had already gotten a sense of Mirai's personality.
Dominant, forceful, and proud.
Every move he made carried an air of control, as if he already had everything in his grasp.
Though Mirai's plans were still in their early stages, Shibi had a strange intuition that Mirai would ultimately emerge victorious in this power struggle.
After quietly reflecting for some time, Shibi lay down fully clothed and drifted to sleep.
As for reporting this to the Hokage?
It was nothing more than an idle question. He would never do something so foolish.
The recent scandal involving Mirai's capture of Koharu Utatane and Homura Mitokado's grandchildren had stirred quite a commotion, yet the Hokage's camp had made no moves against him.
This could mean only one thing: in the face of Uchiha Mirai, the Third Hokage and his allies were already the weaker party.
Besides, swearing loyalty to Hiruzen Sarutobi and Danzo Shimura wouldn't bring any real benefits. In fact, it might even backfire.
There was no need to think too hard about the right choice.
