Chapter 127: Chapter 127: Mirai-kun, Did You Think You Had Me Cornered?

Led by a small white snake, Mirai quickly arrived at a dense forest just outside Kumogakure's borders.

The snake flicked its tongue before slithering into a nearby bush, disappearing from sight.

Moments later, a man with an androgynous air, dressed in a flowing kimono, stepped out from the shadows.

"Mirai-kun, it's been a while," Orochimaru greeted with a faint smile, his serpentine eyes narrowing slightly.

Mirai returned the smile. "Orochimaru, you brought what I asked for, didn't you?"

Orochimaru nodded but let out a soft chuckle. "Of course. However, Mirai-kun..."

The air around them grew tense. Orochimaru extended his long, serpentine tongue, licking his lips deliberately.

"We're only collaborators. Don't make the mistake of thinking you can treat me like a subordinate."

Mirai's expression didn't falter, his smile calm yet unyielding. "But you see, I don't enjoy standing on equal footing with anyone."

"So, Orochimaru," Mirai continued, his tone chilling, "it's best if you obediently become my subordinate."

Orochimaru's eyes darkened, his gaze sharp and calculating. "Mirai-kun, are you under the impression that you've cornered me?"

Mirai chuckled lightly. "Who knows?"

As he spoke, his Sharingan activated, spinning into the distinct pattern of the Mangekyō Sharingan.

"Kotoamatsukami!"

A surge of powerful ocular energy pierced into Orochimaru's mind, forcibly altering his will.

In an instant, Orochimaru's demeanor shifted completely.

"Mirai-kun, I was just joking earlier," Orochimaru said with an unsettling grin. "I've always been your most loyal subordinate. There was no need to use the Mangekyō Sharingan."

Watching the dramatic change in Orochimaru, Mirai smirked in satisfaction.

Turning Orochimaru into his puppet with such ease only reinforced the reputation of Kotoamatsukami as the ultimate genjutsu.

From the very beginning, Mirai had been wary of Orochimaru's rebellious nature. Using Kotoamatsukami to control him was a plan he had prepared well in advance.

Even if Orochimaru hadn't voiced his insubordinate thoughts, Mirai would have acted regardless. He had no intention of wasting time in a battle of wits with someone as cunning as Orochimaru.

"Do you have a facility nearby where we can perform a transplant procedure?" Mirai asked.

"Yes," Orochimaru replied smoothly.

"Good. Tomorrow, wait for me in the lab. I'll bring someone with me," Mirai instructed before turning to leave.

Back in the courtyard of his residence, Mirai found Mikoto sitting on the ground, her face smudged with soot and her expression one of utter defeat.

Walking over, Mirai crouched down and gently wiped the dirt from her cheek.

"Mikoto, what happened?"

Mikoto sighed. "I don't think I have a knack for cooking."

Mirai smiled softly. "The dishes I taught you are completely new to this world. It's no surprise that getting them right would be challenging."

In the shinobi world, women were often expected to excel at domestic skills, like cooking and cleaning. Failing in these areas could make them feel inadequate or ashamed.

Understanding this, Mirai decided to console her.

But despite his reassurances, Mikoto could only muster a forced smile, her spirits clearly still low.

Sighing internally, Mirai scooped her up in his arms without warning.

"What are you doing?!" Mikoto exclaimed, startled.

"Something to cheer you up," Mirai replied with a mischievous grin. "Once, twice, or even three times if needed."

"W-Wait...!"

The next morning, Mirai stretched lazily as Mikoto, now glowing with determination, helped him get dressed.

"Don't worry," Mikoto said confidently. "I'll master all the recipes you taught me!"

Mirai patted her head affectionately. "I believe in you. But today, I have some matters to attend to, so don't wait for me at mealtime."

"Understood!"

After much dawdling, Mirai finally left his residence and made his way to the Kurama Clan compound, where Kurama Murakumo greeted him warmly.

"Murakumo-sama," Mirai began, "I'll take Yakumo for her treatment today. Everything should go smoothly."

Murakumo bowed deeply. "Captain Mirai, thank you. No matter the outcome, the Kurama Clan will forever be in your debt."

"By the way," Murakumo added hesitantly, "some allied minor clans have expressed interest in working under your command."

Mirai chuckled. "Tell them to send one representative from each clan. I'll integrate them into the Police Force."

Murakumo's eyes gleamed with excitement. "Understood!"

Arriving at the Kurama Clan's villa, Mirai moved swiftly to Yakumo's room without alerting the guards.

Inside, paintings were scattered around the space, and Yakumo was engrossed in sketching on a large canvas by the window.

As Mirai approached, he noticed the nearly completed artwork. His eyes widened slightly.

The painting depicted a nude girl sitting on the ground while a man, resembling Mirai himself, meticulously inscribed seals onto her body.

"Ahem, ahem!" Mirai coughed awkwardly, his cheeks twitching.

Yakumo spun around, startled. "M-Mirai-sama?!"

She hastily threw a cloth over the painting, her pale face flushing a deep crimson.

Since their last meeting, Yakumo had heard countless tales of Mirai's exploits—his genius, his victory over the Seven Ninja Swordsmen, his duel with the Raikage, and his heroic deeds that saved Konoha.

The stories painted a larger-than-life image of Mirai, and Yakumo couldn't help but feel a growing admiration for him.

But this?

Yakumo wanted the ground to swallow her whole. "He won't think I'm a weird girl... right?"
