Chapter 118: Chapter 116: Accurate… and lazy
"We need to name this new improved seal," Dan said as he examined the intricate lines of the seal Ryu had crafted.
He turned to his grandson, a small smile playing on his lips. "Why don't you name it? It's your seal, after all."
Ryu scratched his chin, his eyes narrowing in concentration.
"There's not much freedom to name this one," he said after a moment. "How about just [OSS] short for [Optimised Storage Seal]? Pretty self-explanatory, right?"
Dan smiled, shaking his head. "That's very accurate... and lazy. But I like it."
Ryu grinned, pleased with his grandfather's approval. But then a thought crossed his mind.
He asked, "Do we need to share the training scroll with the Fuinjutsu Council as well? You know, the one I made to break down the seal into steps?"
Dan's expression turned serious. "No. Just the seal itself will suffice. The insight and inner workings are our secret to keep. We can share it, or we may choose not to. If we choose to sell it, in the short term, the insight will bring in more money than the seal's commercial rights. But more important than the seal itself is its insight and knowledge of its inner workings, which can help a grandmaster create new seals or understand ancient ones."
Ryu nodded, relieved. "Ok, we can keep the insight to ourselves then. But I was thinking... we could share it with the Hokage at least. He's been a great help with the Leaf Medical Council, and I think it would be a good way to repay the favour."
Dan's eyes softened as he looked at Ryu. He understood his grandson's intentions—Ryu wasn't just thinking about himself. He was already considering how to give back to those who had supported him.
"That's a good idea," Dan agreed. "We'll share it with the Hokage."
Then, with an inquisitive look, Dan turned to face Ryu and asked, "But tell me, after registering it with the Fuinjutsu Council, why do you want to sell the seal's commercial rights?"
He continued, "If you want to keep it a secret, you can do that. We have plenty of money, and it would save you from attracting too much attention."
Ryu smiled and replied, "It's not about the money, Grandpa. It's about the recognition. If we sell the seal's rights, it'll spread across the villages. People will know our work, and it'll open doors for us. Plus, it could help fund future projects. I have plans, Grandpa. Big plans. I need as much money as I can get for my future ventures."
Dan raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Oh? And what are those plans, if I may ask?"
Ryu leaned back, his voice steady but filled with excitement. "I plan to start my own company and become the richest man in the world. My goal is to start my own business, specialising in consumer electronics, construction, and medicine. In addition, I would like to fund research in all fields—including agriculture and other fields—instead of just medicine. There's so much potential in research, and I want to be at the forefront of it."
Dan blinked, taken aback by the ambition in Ryu's words. "I thought you wanted to become a combat medic. Don't tell me you're planning to give up on being a ninja."
Ryu shook his head, a small smile playing on his lips. "Yes and no. I do plan to become a ninja, but after I attain the Chunin rank, I'll only take missions occasionally. I'll focus on the mandatory ones assigned by the hostage. The rest of my time will be spent building something bigger."
Dan crossed his arms; his curiosity piqued. "And what exactly are you planning to build?"
Ryu's eyes lit up as he explained. "A better world."
He continued, "To do that, I have to solve the issues that come in my way of achieving that. Hunger, famine, disease, and finally wars. I want to end it all. I will need three things to achieve that."
Curious, Dan asked, "And what are those three?"
Ryu continued, "Power, money, and people that will become pillars of my dream. If I lack even one of them, I won't be able to do what I dream. I am right now working on the first two. The company I form will eventually gather me all three at once."
Dan's eyes widened as he heard of his dreams. He couldn't help but smile.
"So that is your dream, huh? I thought it was just saving lives through medical ninjutsu," he said.
Ryu nodded enthusiastically. "Medical ninjutsu will also be my path, Grandpa. But I will not stop there. Exploring the unknown, pushing the boundaries of what's possible—that's what gives me a thrill."
Dan chuckled, shaking his head in amazement. "I don't doubt that, now that I've seen you invent a revolutionary medicine and this new seal, all at such a young age."
Dan's expression turned serious again as he considered Ryu's words. "Alright, I'll first train with this new seal. Once I've mastered it, I'll report it to the Fuinjutsu Council."
The next few days passed in a blur of training and preparation. Dan, an experienced Grandmaster in Fuinjutsu trained by the famed Mito Uzumaki, quickly grasped the intricacies of the new seal. The training scroll Ryu had provided was simple yet detailed, and by the end of the week, Dan had successfully created his first copy of this new improved seal.
Meanwhile, Ryu continued with his usual routine, focusing on his lightning affinity training. By the end of the week, he could generate strong sparks on his fingers, a sign of his growing mastery over the element.
One morning, as Ryu was finishing his training, Dan approached him, a satisfied smile on his face. "Alright, Ryu. I've mastered this new seal. I'm heading to the Fuinjutsu Council now to register it."
Dan handed Ryu a new scroll and said, "This contains a barrier seal. Now that you've completed your lightning affinity training up to step three, you only need to learn and associate the lightning with hand seals. I'll teach you those later. For now, focus on learning this barrier seal."
Ryu's eyes widened in excitement as he took the scroll. "A barrier seal?"
Dan chuckled but quickly turned serious again. "Be careful with this one, Ryu. If you trap yourself in a barrier without knowing how to remove it, you could suffocate. All kinds of flame barriers will eat into the oxygen levels of closed space slowly. That is one of the main drawbacks of the flame-type barriers."
Ryu nodded, his excitement tempered by the warning. "Got it. I'll be careful."
Dan continued, "For now, just study the seal. Don't practice it on fuinjutsu paper. And if you have any ideas, write them down so we can look into them together."
Ryu grinned. "Will do, Grandpa."
Dan gave Ryu a final nod before turning to leave. As he walked towards the Hokage's office, he couldn't help but feel a sense of pride. "This boy...… he is really going to change the world."
As soon as Dan left, Ryu dove into the barrier seal. Like before, he recoded the entire scroll into his [Mind Palace], breaking the seal down into its individual components. His mind raced as he analysed each part, understanding the flow of chakra and the intricate patterns that made up the barrier.
He began deconstructing the seal part by part to get insight into it. but this time without overclocking it.
- [Parallel Thinking] enabled
Ryu's eyes narrowed as he focused on the seal's structure. [Parallel Thinking] kicked in, allowing him to break down multiple aspects of the seal simultaneously.
- [Single Blue-Flame Barrier-Seal] deconstructing and decoding
- Progress: 0%
Ryu's eyes flickered as he processed the information, his mind working faster than his hands could move. but still, the process was slow when compared to real time. It took him 5 minutes for just 1% of the seal without overclocking.
He was already aware of the ways in which the barrier seal might be modified, but he was wise enough to avoid jumping right in before fully comprehending the seal.
Meanwhile, at the Hokage's office, Dan arrived and requested a meeting with Hiruzen. After only a few minutes, he was allowed into his chamber.
"Dan," Hiruzen greeted warmly, a smile on his face. "It's been a while. Last we met was at your house. How's everything going? How's Ryu?"
Dan smiled, bowing slightly. "Everything's fine. Ryu's doing well. He's always running around the house, and he's taken a liking to cooking. We prepare meals together when he's not training. And training...… oh boy. Nothing can stop him while he is training. Additionally, he enjoys pestering me with too many questions."
Hiruzen smiled and shot back, "But I think you enjoy responding to those questions, even if they are annoying. Right? "
Dan grinned back, exclaiming, "Yeah! It is preferable to those lonely days."
Hiruzen laughed, clearly pleased. "That's good to hear. So, what brings you here today?"
Dan's expression turned serious as he pulled out the scroll containing the new seal. "I'm here to present the Fuinjutsu Council head—Lord Hokage—a newly crafted seal."
