Naruto: The Tale of an Otsutsuki

Chapter 85: Chapter 85: Back in Action

"Kirito, long time no see!"

"Are we finally going on missions together again?"

"Yep," Kirito replied with a small smile. "My training with Lady Tsunade is over, so I'm ready to rejoin the team."

The day after Kirito had begun experimenting with his new Kekkei Genkai, Rock Lee and Tenten arrived at the training ground fresh from completing their latest mission. Upon hearing Kirito could now resume missions, they were both overjoyed.

Especially Tenten, who immediately approached him with a dramatically exasperated expression. "Kirito, thank goodness you're back! I can't handle these two alone anymore!"

She went on to describe their last mission, which involved dealing with pirates at the Hodgepodge Strait. It had initially seemed like a simple task, but things took a bizarre turn when Guy, who had severe seasickness, decided with Lee to abandon the boat entirely. Instead, they opted to physically drag the boat across the strait as a form of "youthful training." Tenten had been dragged—both figuratively and literally—into their madness.

"I tried to stop them, but they wouldn't listen to me at all!" Tenten huffed, pretending to wipe away imaginary tears.

Kirito could vividly imagine the scene. He'd seen firsthand how both Guy and Lee's over-the-top passion for training could bulldoze any reasonable objections. They had a knack for coming up with outlandish goals, like running from Konoha to Sunagakure in a single day. These weren't challenges meant to be achieved, but rather to inspire their relentless drive to improve.

Of course, while Guy and Lee embraced these impossible tasks with enthusiasm, it was Tenten, as the sole voice of reason, who inevitably bore the brunt of their antics.

Lee, oblivious to Tenten's complaints, said confidently, "Tenten, as a ninja, you should constantly push your limits and surpass yourself!"

"And you two should think about other people!" Tenten snapped, glaring at him.

It wasn't that Tenten was against training. She knew the value of hard work, especially as a ninja from a non-clan background. But the absurdity of Guy and Lee's methods—like dragging a boat across the sea—was something she couldn't reconcile with.

Tenten vividly recalled the looks of confusion and disbelief from passengers on nearby tourist ships. She'd felt as though her ninja career was over.

Kirito fought to suppress a laugh, already understanding why Tenten wanted him back on the team. With Kirito there, she wouldn't be the sole victim of Guy and Lee's boundless enthusiasm.

Sensing her frustration, Kirito decided to change the subject. "So, do we have any missions lined up?"

"Not yet," Tenten replied. "Guy-sensei is reporting our last mission to Lady Tsunade. He should tell us if anything comes up."

"No matter the mission, I'll complete it perfectly!" Lee declared, punching the air energetically.

"If we don't have a mission, how about going to the movies?" Kirito suggested. "I heard they're showing The Great Adventure of Princess Gale. Princess Koyuki stars in it."

"Really? I've been wanting to see that!" Tenten's face lit up. "But we've been so busy with missions, I haven't had time."

"Me too!" Lee chimed in, raising his hand. "I want to see Princess Koyuki's movie too!"

Kirito and Tenten exchanged a look before shrugging. The Snow Country mission had been a shared experience for their team, so it felt fitting to include Lee—and by extension, Guy—in their plans.

As they discussed their movie outing, Naruto suddenly appeared on the training ground, panting and hauling three unconscious men over his shoulders. He trudged downstream, muttering complaints under his breath.

Not long after, Kirito, Tenten, Lee, and Naruto were called to the Hokage's office for a mission briefing.

Lady Tsunade explained the situation. "Your mission is to escort these three men back to the Sorrel Gold Mine and eliminate the Black Spade gang causing trouble there. It's a simple task—just deal with some small-time thugs."

Naruto's face twisted in displeasure. "Seriously? I'm busy looking for Sasuke and training! Why do I have to do this boring mission?"

"What did you just say?" Tsunade growled, pulling Naruto close by his collar. "You're complaining about a mission now? If you're so picky, do you want me to send you back to the Academy, huh?"

Kirito, Tenten, and Lee watched the exchange with wide eyes.

Tsunade, undeterred by Naruto's protests, threw him toward Kirito. "Kirito, I'm assigning you as the team leader for this mission. Take care of him."

"Understood," Kirito said, easily catching Naruto.

"Wait, Granny Tsunade!" Naruto struggled, but Kirito held him in place with one hand.

"You're coming whether you like it or not," Kirito said firmly, dragging Naruto out of the office.

Tenten followed quickly, calling back to Tsunade, "We'll take care of it, Lady Tsunade!"

Once they were gone, Shizune turned to Tsunade with concern. "Are you sure it's safe to let Naruto leave the Land of Fire? The Akatsuki are still out there."

"I've thought about it," Tsunade replied, watching Naruto's retreating back. "That's why I assigned Kirito as team leader. Plus, keeping Naruto cooped up in Konoha isn't helping anyone. Letting him get some fresh air and focus on something else might do him good."

Shizune sighed. "Or maybe you're just tired of him pestering you…"
