Chapter 67: Chapter 67: The Successful Capture of the Five-Tails
Kisame's hands formed seals with startling speed as he unleashed an immense jutsu.
"Water Style: Great Exploding Water Colliding Wave!"
A torrential surge of water gushed from Kisame's mouth, expanding rapidly until it flooded an area nearly five kilometers wide. Under his control, the colossal water sphere isolated the land below, creating an oceanic domain in the heart of the battlefield.
"If he excels at taijutsu," Kisame mused, "then I'll create a battleground where he can't use it. Let's see how he fights when he can't even breathe."
His sword, Samehada, seemed to pulse with life, merging seamlessly with Kisame's body. In moments, his already shark-like features transformed completely. His smooth, curved head now sported a dorsal fin, and his joints sprouted fins that gleamed under the water. A powerful tail emerged from his spine, completing his monstrous transformation into a humanoid shark.
This was why Kisame was called the Tailed Beast without a Tail. His immense chakra reserves were one reason, his ability to fuse with Samehada and become a terrifying hybrid was another. In this form, his speed and strength were enhanced exponentially, and he could breathe effortlessly underwater.
Han, the Jinchūriki of the Five-Tails, sank deeper into the water, his body weighed down by the overwhelming torrent. Despite the peril, his thoughts weren't on himself.
"What about Zilu? Can she escape this?"
The thought spurred him into action. A fierce fighting spirit ignited within him as the device on his back expelled massive amounts of steam, creating powerful currents in the water.
"I can't fight him here. I need to get back to the surface!"
But Kisame wasn't about to let that happen. His tail swished powerfully, propelling him through the water faster than Han could move, even in his steam-powered state.
"Water Prison Shark Dance Technique!"
As Kisame weaved signs, the once calm waters became a frenzy of activity.
"What the—?" Han turned to see sharks—real, living sharks—emerging from the depths of the flooded forest.
"Steam Fist!"
Han's chakra-coated fists struck out like spinning turbines, obliterating the sharks in bursts of blood and bone. But the swarm only grew more frenzied, driven wild by the scent of blood. Wave after wave surged toward him, their jaws snapping hungrily.
"Damn it, there are too many!" Han's breath grew labored. Prolonged underwater combat wasn't his forte, and the exertion was quickly depleting his oxygen reserves.
From the midst of the chaos, Kisame grinned.
"Now's my chance."
Lurking among the sharks, Kisame had been waiting for Han to show a moment of weakness. The swarm wasn't meant to kill—it was to create an opening.
With explosive speed, Kisame shot toward Han like a harpoon, his claws—fused with Samehada—gleaming with deadly intent.
Han barely had time to react before Kisame's claws pierced through his armor, drawing blood.
"Tch." Han winced, a muffled groan escaping his lips. His fist lashed out, clearing the sharks overhead and creating a brief escape route. With a final burst of steam, he rocketed upward.
"The Five-Tails Jinchūriki is mine!" Kisame declared, weaving another jutsu.
"Water Style: Giant Shark Bullet Technique!"
A massive shark made of water formed in Kisame's hands, its size and destructive energy dwarfing everything else. This was one of his signature moves—deadly and capable of absorbing chakra-based attacks to grow even stronger.
Inside Han, the Five-Tails, Kokuō, roared in alarm.
"Han! Use my power! There's no time!"
Han didn't hesitate. His steam chakra erupted at full force, and his body began to glow with a fiery red aura as he entered his Tailed Beast State. The crimson cloak of chakra encased him completely, and soon, his transformation deepened. Five tails sprouted from his back as Kokuō willingly lent him its strength.
Still in control, Han turned, his mouth filling with compressed chakra.
"Bijūdama!"
A black sphere of concentrated chakra formed and then shot out of his mouth, hurtling toward Kisame's Giant Shark Bullet.
The two techniques collided with cataclysmic force.
The resulting explosion vaporized the water around them, creating a blinding steam cloud that engulfed the battlefield. Kisame's shark technique faltered as it failed to absorb the overwhelming power of the Bijūdama, and the shockwave pushed him back violently.
When the light and steam cleared, the once-submerged forest was reduced to sodden earth, littered with debris.
"Kisame. You look like hell," Kakuzu remarked, his green eyes glinting as he approached. Kisame's Samehada had already begun to heal his injuries, but his tattered Akatsuki cloak and weary stance betrayed the intensity of the battle.
Kisame shot Kakuzu a glare before nodding toward the unconscious Jinchūriki slumped over his shoulder.
"Where the hell were you, old man? We were supposed to capture him together."
"I'm not a fan of water battles," Kakuzu replied flatly, though even he couldn't hide his respect for Kisame's prowess.
Kakuzu's gaze shifted to a small figure he held in his hand—a trembling girl.
"This one's a companion of the Jinchūriki. Should I kill her?"
Kisame glanced at the girl, shaking his head.
"She's not a ninja. Let her go."
Kakuzu raised a brow. "Didn't think someone from the Bloody Mist would show mercy."
Kisame's shark-like eyes softened for a moment. "I'm tired of this false world. Killing her won't change anything."
For a fleeting moment, he saw an image of the girl who once invited him to dinner—reflected in Zilu's frightened eyes.
Kisame hoisted Han over his shoulder and began to walk away.
"She might expose us," Kakuzu muttered, but he dropped the girl and followed Kisame without another word.
Zilu watched helplessly as Han was taken. She knew she couldn't fight these two, but she could still help. Turning on her heel, she sprinted toward Iwagakure to sound the alarm.
"Hold on, Han! I'll bring help!"
