Naruto: Tobirama Reborn, Invincible in the Ninja World

Chapter 68: Chapter 68: Onoki Unmasks the Truth

The battle between the Five-Tails' Jinchūriki and Kisame Hoshigaki was nothing short of earth-shaking. The explosion from the Tailed Beast Bomb echoed for miles, its rumble reaching even the farthest edges of the Land of Earth.

Nearby Iwagakure shinobi, drawn by the commotion, rushed to investigate. Upon arriving, they discovered the remnants of a fierce battle. Not far from the epicenter, they found a young girl unconscious amidst the chaos.

One of the leading Iwa jōnin, who had been out on a mission, felt a chill of foreboding. His experienced eyes took in the battlefield and the residual chakra traces. There was no mistaking it—one of the combatants had been Han.

But who was the other?

An unknown Kage-level shinobi fighting the Jinchūriki of the Five-Tails, and right here in the Land of Earth?

Unable to make a firm decision, the jōnin abandoned his mission and carried the unconscious girl back to Iwagakure for answers.

"Tsuchikage-sama! Jōnin Ishizhi requests an audience. He says it's urgent."

The Iwagakure Anbu directly under Ōnoki's command knocked on the Tsuchikage's office door.

"Ishizhi? Didn't he just leave for a mission outside the village? Why is he back so soon?"

Seated in his chair, Ōnoki rubbed his aching lower back, his expression one of confusion as he looked up at the Anbu.

"Let him in."

The Anbu swiftly left, returning shortly with Ishizhi in tow. What surprised Ōnoki even more was the fact that Ishizhi had a young girl slung over his shoulder, and she was anything but quiet.

"I need to see the Tsuchikage! It's important!" the girl shouted, her small fists pounding on Ishizhi's back.

"Quiet down, brat! You're in the presence of the Tsuchikage. Show some respect!"

The Anbu beside them sent a small pulse of chakra her way, silencing her immediately.

"Ishizhi, what's the meaning of this?"

Ōnoki straightened his back with some effort, wincing as his old injuries protested.

Without delay, Ishizhi set the now-silent girl down and began his report.

"Tsuchikage-sama, around noon today, my team and I were in a village in the southeastern region of the Land of Earth, carrying out our mission. Suddenly, we heard a massive explosion. I took my team to investigate and found signs of a battle.

"From the chakra residues and the damage to the surroundings, I am certain that Han was one of the combatants. As for his opponent... they were Kage-level, without a doubt. And... they were a stranger to us."

Ishizhi's words came out in one breath, and he paused only to take a deep breath.

"What?!"

Ōnoki's reaction was immediate. He shot to his feet, the motion causing an audible crack from his lower back. His face contorted in pain.

"Are you alright, Tsuchikage-sama?"

The Anbu moved quickly to steady him as he eased back into his chair.

"And her? Who is she?"

Ōnoki glanced at the girl, his sharp eyes narrowing.

Before Ishizhi could respond, the girl spoke up, her voice trembling but resolute.

"Tsuchikage-sama, Han was taken! Two strange men captured him. Please, you have to save him!"

"Han was captured?"

Ōnoki's eyes widened in shock.

"Who were they? Did you see their faces?"

"I... I don't know who they were, but they were wearing black cloaks with red clouds on them. Please, Tsuchikage-sama, help Han-ojisan!"

At her words, Ōnoki's expression darkened. He knew exactly who she was describing.

The Akatsuki.

An underground organization of rogue shinobi from various villages. They operated as mercenaries, often taking on dangerous and morally ambiguous missions for smaller nations. Even Ōnoki had used them in the past to discreetly intervene in minor conflicts.

But for them to target one of Iwagakure's Jinchūriki?

It didn't add up.

"No... this isn't their style..."

Something clicked in Ōnoki's mind. He recalled the recent rumors about Tobirama Senju and his supposed plans to collect the Tailed Beasts. Could this be his doing?

Tobirama was undoubtedly strong enough to take on a Jinchūriki, but there was no way he'd risk entering the Land of Earth and igniting another war. Using the Akatsuki as a proxy? That would make sense.

It was a cunning plan. If the Akatsuki succeeded, Tobirama would get what he wanted without exposing himself. If they failed, the blame would fall solely on the Akatsuki.

"Clever... but not clever enough."

Ōnoki's lips curled into a humorless smile.

"The Akatsuki dare to lay hands on Iwagakure's Jinchūriki?" he growled. "We'll see about that."

He slammed his hand on the desk, his voice booming through the office.

"Dispatch search teams immediately! Track down Han's location! Place the Akatsuki on our most-wanted list—capture or kill on sight. And destroy any black market outposts within the Land of Earth that dared to issue such contracts!"

"Yes, Tsuchikage-sama!"

The Anbu hurried out, their urgency reflecting the gravity of the situation.

When the room was finally empty, Ōnoki stood, his movements slow and deliberate.

"Damn you, Tobirama..." he muttered, his fists clenched tightly. "If this is your game, don't think I'll play by your rules."

His sharp eyes gleamed with determination as he began plotting his next move.

The news of the Five-Tails' Jinchūriki being captured by the Akatsuki spread like wildfire. Alongside it came another rumor: that Tobirama Senju had hired the Akatsuki to hunt down Jinchūriki for his own purposes.

Whether true or not, the rumors ignited fear and suspicion across the shinobi world.

For those villages with Jinchūriki, the idea of Konoha systematically targeting them was enough to prompt immediate action. If Tobirama truly was behind this, they couldn't afford to sit idly by.

And thus, the seeds of discord began to sprout, threatening to plunge the world into yet another war.
