Chapter 71: Chapter 71: Zetsu’s Plan
"Sealing Technique: Phantom Dragons Nine Consuming Seals"
In the darkness of a cavernous space, nine figures stood positioned on the massive fingers of the Gedo Statue. They unleashed a powerful sealing jutsu around the colossal form. (Note: This fanfic version introduces a different order for sealing tailed beasts.)
Nine immense, blue chakra dragons surged from the mouth of the Gedo Statue, wrapping around Han, who was already unconscious. His body convulsed violently as the tailed beast chakra was forcibly extracted at a rapid pace.
Despite the speed, the process was painstakingly slow, given the immense volume of chakra within the tailed beast.
Time dragged on, the minutes blurring into hours. Just as fatigue began to weigh on the group, a dull thud echoed. Han's body twitched one final time before going completely still—his life extinguished.
The Five-Tails had been completely sealed into the Gedo Statue. With a rumbling groan, the statue sank into the ground, disappearing beneath the surface.
When the ritual was finally complete, the figure of Pain (Deva Path) shifted slightly. A sudden, overwhelming pull emanated from his hand as he coldly commanded:
"Banshō Ten'in!"
Three agonized cries followed as Pain's black chakra rods pierced through the hearts of three shinobi.
"Why…? You said you'd let us go after the sealing…"
Moments later, three lifeless bodies fell to the ground at Pain's feet.
Due to the absence of Uchiha Itachi and Hidan, and with Konan still recovering, the sealing jutsu required nine participants. To make up for the shortage, Nagato, controlling Pain, had abducted three rogue Jonin from different villages. Once their usefulness had ended, they couldn't be allowed to live.
"Ugh, I'm beat! Leader, this kind of work is brutal!" Deidara groaned, flopping onto his back and staring up at the cavern ceiling.
"This is just the first tailed beast," Sasori remarked with a sidelong glance.
"Speaking of which," Deidara added with a laugh, "that old fossil Onoki actually thought it was Tobirama Senju who hired us to capture the Jinchuriki! Can you believe it? The nerve of that guy!"
His laughter echoed as he recalled the absurdity of Onoki's miscalculation.
"Perhaps we can use that misconception," Zetsu's voice interjected suddenly.
All eyes turned to the half-black, half-white figure.
"The rumors I've been spreading across the shinobi world are already causing unrest. If we claim that it was indeed Tobirama Senju who issued the orders, the other villages will undoubtedly turn their attention to Konoha. Even if Konoha denies it, no one will believe them."
Nagato's mind stirred at the suggestion. If Konoha became the target of the other villages, Akatsuki could exploit the chaos to capture all the Jinchuriki in one decisive move.
Zetsu's plant-like face grinned as he continued, "We'll remain in the shadows, sowing discord and triggering a war between Konoha and the other great villages. When they're weakened, we'll strike and claim all the Jinchuriki, including the Nine-Tails and One-Tail!"
"Hey, hey! Zetsu, you're one sneaky bastard," Deidara muttered, rolling his eyes.
"It's a necessary tactic to ensure the success of our plan," Zetsu replied evenly. "Even Konoha won't stand a chance against the combined might of the three Great Shinobi Villages."
"And if Tobirama's immortal body somehow drags them into a stalemate, we can enlist Orochimaru to deal with him. Once he's sealed, the Nine-Tails and One-Tail will be ours for the taking."
Hearing this, the Rinnegan in Pain's eyes gleamed faintly.
Nagato's real body felt a flicker of excitement. Though he viewed himself as a god, the setbacks—Itachi's betrayal, Konan's injuries, and his own failing health—had shaken him. If this plan could expedite their goals, it was worth pursuing.
"Very well, Zetsu. Proceed with your plan."
Pain's voice was resolute, and Zetsu obeyed, sinking into the earth with a satisfied smirk.
"Leader, should we continue capturing the other Jinchuriki?" Sasori asked.
"Wait until the war begins. We'll act when the time is right," Pain replied before vanishing.
In a secluded area, Zetsu emerged from the ground, addressing a masked figure seated nearby.
"Tobi, Nagato agreed."
Tobi's Sharingan gleamed beneath his mask.
"Of course he did. Losing to Tobirama has made him doubt whether he's truly a god. He'll jump at any chance to shift the balance in his favor."
Zetsu nodded.
"And once he seals all the tailed beasts, we'll reclaim his Rinnegan."
"Indeed," Tobi said coldly. "Once the beasts are gathered and Tobirama is sealed, we can revive the Ten-Tails. Until then, stir up the flames of war. Let the villages' anger toward Konoha burn brighter."
"As you wish," Zetsu murmured before disappearing into the ground.
When silence returned, Tobi clutched his mask, his voice barely a whisper.
"Soon, Rin. Just wait a little longer. I'll create a world where you exist again—a perfect, peaceful world where everyone we've lost will return."
