Naruto: Tobirama Reborn, Invincible in the Ninja World

Chapter 72: Chapter 72: Iwagakure’s Accusation

Ōnoki was at his wit's end.

The Five-Tails Jinchūriki had been captured by the Akatsuki, his fate unknown. Every search party sent out had returned empty-handed—there wasn't a trace of Han or the Akatsuki members who had taken him.

Even the underground black markets across the Land of Earth were combed through, but no leads surfaced.

Ōnoki had initially suspected that the Akatsuki had been hired by Senju Tobirama, but without evidence, it was only a theory.

That was until three days ago when a supposed member of the Akatsuki brazenly appeared in his office, openly claiming that Senju Tobirama had ordered the capture. The intruder disappeared without a trace right before Ōnoki's eyes.

Ōnoki considered the possibility of the Akatsuki trying to sow discord between Iwagakure and Konohagakure, but he couldn't fathom how that would benefit a mercenary group. Was it just to profit from the chaos of war?

His suspicions were solidified when a report came in from Iwagakure's border defenses: a team of Konoha spies had been captured.

Under interrogation, the spies revealed their mission—to track the movements of the Four-Tails Jinchūriki, Rōshi.

Ōnoki no longer had any doubts.

"Damn Konoha!"

With a roar of anger, he dispatched a delegation to Konohagakure to demand an explanation from Senju Tobirama.

"Perfect. The confessions from those White Zetsu impersonating Konoha shinobi were enough to fool Ōnoki completely."

Hidden underground, Zetsu cackled as he watched the Iwagakure delegation march toward Konohagakure.

"Hokage-sama! A group claiming to be an envoy from Iwagakure is waiting outside the village. They say they've come to accuse you of wrongdoing!"

The tense voice of an Anbu operative echoed as he knocked on the door to the Hokage's office.

"Accuse me?"

Seated at his desk, Senju Tobirama raised an eyebrow. What had Ōnoki, that old fool, gotten into his head now? Had he truly fallen for the rumors floating around the shinobi world?

"Bring the Iwagakure envoy to the conference room. Notify Uchiha Itachi, Hatake Kakashi, Might Guy, Nara Shikaku… hmm, and summon Jiraiya as well. Have them meet me there, prepared for combat."

Tobirama stood, his voice cold and decisive.

If the Iwagakure delegation had come with hostile intent, there was no reason to greet them with warmth.

If they thought they could make Konoha a scapegoat for their failure to deal with the Akatsuki, Ōnoki was sorely mistaken.

He grabbed the Hokage hat from his desk and placed it on his head with deliberate firmness, his presence radiating a chilling authority.

"Yes, Hokage-sama!" The Anbu operative hesitated momentarily before snapping to attention and hurrying off.

When Uchiha Itachi, Might Guy, Hatake Kakashi, Nara Shikaku, and Jiraiya arrived at the conference room, the tension in the air was palpable.

As the five entered, the four members of the Iwagakure delegation, led by Kitsuchi, Ōnoki's son, eyed them warily. Their gazes sharpened when they spotted Uchiha Itachi, fueling their belief that Konoha had ties with the Akatsuki.

The four Iwagakure shinobi, including three elite jonin seated beside Kitsuchi, exchanged grim looks.

The precedent set by Sunagakure weighed heavily on their minds. Chiyo's brother, Ebizō, had once led a delegation to Konoha to negotiate—negotiate, not accuse—and he had been detained by Tobirama until Sunagakure's defeat. What horrors had they endured while in Konoha's custody?

Though this mission was perilous, Kitsuchi had insisted on leading it himself. As a proud shinobi of Iwagakure, he could not stomach the humiliation of their Jinchūriki being abducted under their noses.

Regardless of the risks, he had come with a singular goal: to pressure Konoha into returning the Five-Tails Jinchūriki.

If Konoha dared to play the role of a warmonger, Iwagakure would not hesitate to declare war. Their village's strength was on par with Konoha's—why should they bow down?

With a grim expression, Kitsuchi broke the silence, his voice sharp and unyielding.

"Hokage, we demand the immediate return of Iwagakure's Five-Tails Jinchūriki!"

Hearing this, Tobirama almost laughed aloud.

"The Five-Tails was captured by the Akatsuki. Why demand its return from Konoha?"

Tobirama stroked his chin, his tone casual yet laced with sarcasm.

Kitsuchi's eye twitched at the Hokage's dismissive attitude. He clenched his fists, but one of his companions, unable to hold back, stepped forward and snapped,

"The Akatsuki was hired by you—by Konoha! One of their members admitted it to our Tsuchikage!"

The man's accusatory tone and sheer audacity left Tobirama momentarily stunned. Was this man truly this bold, or simply reckless?

"Oh? Then why don't you bring this Akatsuki member here to identify me directly?"

Though Tobirama's smile didn't waver, a faint surge of chakra pressure rippled through the room.

The Iwagakure jonin froze, beads of sweat forming on his brow as the oppressive aura pinned him in place.

Kitsuchi remained steadfast. With a signal, one of his comrades produced a scroll and unrolled it on the table.

From within the scroll, a severed head appeared—a man wearing a Konoha forehead protector.

"This man was captured at our border. He confessed that he was acting under your orders to investigate the whereabouts of our Four-Tails Jinchūriki. When he tried to escape, we eliminated him. He even used the Nara clan's shadow jutsu during the fight!"

Kitsuchi's tone was triumphant, convinced that this evidence was irrefutable.

Nara Shikaku stepped forward, his expression dark as he examined the head closely. After a moment, he whispered into Tobirama's ear,

"Hokage-sama, this is indeed Nara Dan, a chunin of our clan. But… he was confirmed dead during a mission months ago."

Tobirama's eyes narrowed. His sharp mind pieced together the puzzle swiftly.

"If Nara Dan is already dead… then this must be the work of…"

"White Zetsu."

The thought struck Tobirama like a lightning bolt. The ability of White Zetsu to mimic not just appearances but chakra and even techniques was infamous.

No wonder Ōnoki believed this to be Konoha's doing—someone was manipulating events from the shadows.

"Hokage, what is your explanation?! And what about the Akatsuki member standing behind you—Uchiha Itachi?!"

Kitsuchi's angry shout broke Tobirama's train of thought.
