Chapter 212: Arrival at Iwagakure's Main Camp!
Morning dawned the next day.
At the border of the Land of Earth, near the Land of Grass, a circle of houses made from rock and earth formed a fortified encampment.
This was the main base of Iwagakure's forces in the Grass Country battlefield, with the Third Tsuchikage, Onoki, personally stationed here.
Outside the encampment, atop the high stone walls, Iwagakure shinobi patrolled vigilantly. Around the camp, watchtowers made of earthen mounds acted as sentinels, guarding the perimeter for miles.
Even an ordinary ninja approaching would immediately be detected by the scouting shinobi. If a full-scale invasion occurred, Iwagakure could rely on its defensive structures to launch a counterattack.
In the heart of the camp, within a large tent, Onoki, as usual, was busy managing war affairs.
A shinobi from Iwagakure entered respectfully, reporting,
"Tsuchikage-sama, we've detected Uchiha Haneda near the border of the Land of Earth. He's heading in this direction."
"Uchiha Haneda?"
Onoki's expression shifted as he recalled the reputation Haneda had earned during the Third Great Ninja War. However, Onoki wasn't overly concerned; Haneda was still young and wouldn't pose a significant threat in his eyes.
"How many people is he bringing?" Onoki asked, placing his documents aside with a faint smile.
"He's alone."
"Alone?"
Onoki chuckled dismissively and waved the shinobi away.
But the shinobi added hesitantly, "Last night, Uchiha Haneda single-handedly fought the entire Grass Village, killed their leader, and left unscathed."
"Tsuchikage-sama…"
"War takes priority. Haneda has already severed ties with Konoha; he wouldn't dare cause trouble here," Onoki replied, brushing the matter aside. He then summoned Roshi and Han, the jinchuriki of Iwagakure, to strategize their next move against the Land of Grass.
Both Roshi and Han were incredibly powerful, capable of unleashing Tailed Beast Bombs that could shift the tide of war. Though Onoki had tensions with Roshi, he had to compromise during wartime to achieve a unified approach.
Suddenly, the tent's flap was sliced open, falling to the ground.
Onoki's brow furrowed as he grew alert. No one in the camp would dare to act so brazenly—not even Roshi, who disliked him.
Then, a cold, unfamiliar voice rang out:
"Long time no see, Onoki the Fence-Sitter."
Onoki looked up toward the ceiling of the tent.
There, Uchiha Haneda was hanging upside down, his crimson Sharingan eyes fixed on Onoki with an unyielding gaze.
"Uchiha Haneda?!"
Onoki was visibly shocked. A lone Konoha shinobi daring to infiltrate Iwagakure's main camp and confront the Tsuchikage directly?
Was he here to negotiate? Or was this sheer folly?
Onoki chuckled coldly. The timing couldn't have been worse for Haneda; with most of Iwagakure's forces mobilized, there was no way he could entertain discussions with Konoha.
"You're still as irritating as ever," Haneda remarked, his voice indifferent.
With a calm grip, he drew his blade. Lightning surged along the blade, blending with Wind Release chakra to form a radiant white energy.
As he swung, the blade unleashed a cross-shaped beam of lightning that surged toward Onoki. Floating mid-air, Onoki narrowly evaded the initial strike.
However, the beam split into two, curving around to attack Onoki from both flanks. Simultaneously, Haneda hurled a flurry of shuriken, forcing Onoki to activate Dust Release to shield himself while darting sideways to avoid the projectiles.
Just as Onoki evaded the last shuriken, Haneda's blade appeared directly in front of him, the gleaming silver edge reflecting in his widening eyes.
*Thud!*
The blade slashed through Onoki—only for his form to dissipate into smoke.
Haneda calmly retracted his sword and turned to face the real Onoki, who was mid-chant for another Dust Release technique.
"Who gave you the courage to come here alone?" Onoki growled.
"Dust Release: Detachment of the Primitive World Technique!"
A cube of white energy rapidly expanded in Onoki's palm. Haneda watched without flinching, a faint smirk on his face.
"With the power I wield now, I'm the strongest in the ninja world."
Haneda formed a hand seal as golden chakra surged around him, constructing the skeletal frame of his Susano'o. Within moments, it grew into a towering, fully-armored figure.
The glowing cube of Dust Release collided with the Susano'o's defenses, momentarily eroding parts of the construct. Yet, just as quickly, the damage was repaired.
Onoki's expression shifted as he recognized Haneda's Mangekyou Sharingan.
Standing atop the colossal Susano'o, Haneda's presence was impossible for the surrounding Iwagakure shinobi to ignore.
"I see you haven't improved much in all these years," Haneda taunted.
"I still remember your pathetic display four years ago. It's time we ended this grudge."
"Arrogant brat!" Onoki barked, signaling the surrounding shinobi to prepare for a coordinated assault.
Haneda didn't stop them. Instead, he allowed them to act, intending to crush them with overwhelming power.
The golden Susano'o brandished twin blades, swinging them down with earth-shaking force. The ground quaked as the strikes sent shockwaves through the camp, scattering shinobi like leaves.
The shinobi's attacks against the Susano'o were utterly ineffective, their weapons and jutsu glancing off its radiant armor.
Standing atop the Susano'o, Haneda crossed his arms, radiating confidence.
"Is that all you've got?" he asked, a trace of disappointment in his voice.
Suddenly, a massive stone pillar rose from beneath the Susano'o, attempting to grab Haneda.
Leaping off the construct, Haneda landed gracefully and dusted off his clothes, a faint smile playing on his lips.
"That old fool Onoki does have some tricks up his sleeve," he said mockingly.
"Don't underestimate us Iwagakure shinobi!" shouted Kitsuchi, Onoki's son, as he charged forward with a massive earthen fist.
Haneda sidestepped effortlessly, grabbing Kitsuchi's arm.
"Care to dance?" he sneered, activating his Mangekyou Sharingan.
Kitsuchi's eyes glazed over, and he suddenly began performing an awkward, flamboyant dance.
The sight of the burly ninja moving so ridiculously would have been comedic, but the Iwagakure shinobi were too enraged to laugh.
"Kitsuchi is a jonin! How could you humiliate him like this, Haneda?!" Onoki roared.
Furious, Onoki unleashed another Dust Release attack.
Haneda clasped his hands together, forming his own cube of glowing energy.
"Dust Release: Detachment of the Primitive World Technique!"
The two techniques collided mid-air, creating a blinding explosion that swept through the camp.
When the dust settled, a silver blade had pierced Kitsuchi's chest, directly through his heart.
Haneda smirked at the floating Onoki, his voice dripping with mockery.
"Now you'll understand what it feels like to lose someone important."
