Chapter 233: The Hidden Currents of Konoha

Night in the Forest of Death. Beneath its ground lay the Root's hidden base.

Danzo paced back and forth in the vast underground facility, anxiously awaiting news.

Through a spy embedded within the Ino-Shika-Cho trio, he had already learned that Haneda was planning to hold a Jonin meeting the next morning, forcing Hiruzen to step down as Hokage.

There was no doubt that the inherently evil Uchiha brat would use this opportunity to announce his candidacy for Hokage.

With the alliance of the Uchiha, Hyuga, and several other clans, Haneda would face no competition!

Even the Shimura clan had betrayed him, being the first to question Hiruzen and demand a re-election for Hokage.

As he neared Danzo's office, his steps slowed.

"Lord Danzo, all the ninjas dispatched by Root have been captured and imprisoned by the Uchiha."

Danzo, having anticipated this outcome after waiting so long, gritted his teeth and said,

"Send more people. Spare no cost!"

The Root ninja hesitated.

"Lord Danzo, based on the intel they managed to leave behind, the Uchiha district has been on high alert since this afternoon."

"They've imposed a strict curfew at night, making it impossible for our men to infiltrate."

"Additionally, Uchiha Shisui appears to be under direct surveillance by Uchiha Haneda himself."

"What?!" Danzo was stunned at the mention of Haneda personally monitoring Shisui.

Could it be that Shisui's Mangekyo Sharingan ability had been exposed?!

Had that Uchiha brat figured out his plan?!

Was it inevitable that both he and Hiruzen would die? Was the Konoha left behind by their teacher destined to be destroyed by the inherently evil Uchiha?!

At this moment, the Root ninja reported further:

"Lord Danzo, I unexpectedly obtained some information from Uchiha Itachi."

a man with long black hair and golden snake-like eyes walked openly through the Uchiha clan's grounds.

The police force ninjas seemed to have received orders, ignoring his presence entirely and allowing him to move freely.

The visitor was none other than Orochimaru. He stopped in front of a cozy two-story house.

"Haneda-kun, I hope you don't mind my personal visit?"

The door opened on its own. Orochimaru smiled faintly and stepped inside.

Haneda was lounging on the living room sofa. Orochimaru's gaze briefly fell on Naruto, who was heading upstairs, and he licked his lips.

Orochimaru placed a scroll and a test tube on the table in front of the sofa, then sat across from Haneda.

"It seems you've mastered the Dragon Earth Cavern's Sage Mode; I can't sense your chakra at all."

"You've also gained some proficiency with natural energy, haven't you?" Haneda replied, his eyes falling on the scroll and test tube on the table.

His attention was immediately drawn to the test tube, which contained a Sharingan with three tomoe.

"Is this Uchiha Kagami's eye?" Haneda asked.

Orochimaru let out a sinister chuckle.

"Correct. The scroll details how Danzo abandoned Kagami and later seized his eyes."

"Years ago, Danzo had the idea of implanting First Hokage cells and Sharingan, and I assisted him with his research."

"During the experiments, I faked the destruction of Kagami's left eye, claiming it was accidentally ruined."

Haneda wasn't particularly surprised by Orochimaru embezzling Kagami's Sharingan.

He picked up the scroll and began to read.

The scroll recorded the details of a mission Danzo and Kagami had undertaken together.

They had infiltrated the Land of Lightning, only to be ambushed by Hidden Cloud ninjas.

Kagami chose to sacrifice himself to cover Danzo's retreat.

Danzo didn't hesitate to abandon Kagami, returning with reinforcements from Konoha to repel the Cloud ninjas' forces.

What Haneda hadn't expected was that Kagami had survived, albeit gravely injured.

And yet, Danzo had no qualms about killing Kagami in secret and taking his eyes.

It was absurd.

Haneda couldn't help but wonder if Orochimaru had deliberately delivered this information to expose Danzo's darkness.

But it didn't matter. Haneda only needed the crucial evidence—Kagami's Sharingan.

With this, no matter how Danzo tried to justify himself, he wouldn't be able to escape the blame. He would have no choice but to take the fall.

"I'm not someone who likes to owe favors. What do you want, Orochimaru?" Haneda asked.

Orochimaru chuckled.

"You've already paid in advance."

"The wind is blowing. The decayed windmill will soon turn again."

With that, Orochimaru left.

Watching Orochimaru's departing figure, Haneda thought to himself that the Snake Sage was truly a complicated person.

Even after leaving Konoha, he could never fully let go of it in his heart.

The next morning.

The Third Hokage convened the Jonin meeting.

This meeting wasn't on the schedule, but all the Jonin had received word in advance.

The Uchiha Jonin, dressed in their neatly pressed uniforms, were the first to arrive in the meeting room.

Under the oppressive aura of the Uchiha's formidable presence, every Jonin entering the room instinctively lowered their voices.

Even the Hyuga clan, upon entering, refrained from conversing and silently took their seats.

Kakashi, expecting Haneda to arrive early, brought his subordinates to the meeting room.

But after scanning the room, he couldn't spot Haneda.

He approached Fugaku and asked, "Clan Leader Fugaku, where's Haneda?"

"He's still making breakfast for Naruto and the others. He'll be here shortly," Fugaku replied, a bit helplessly.

"Making breakfast? And he didn't bring me any," Kakashi muttered under his breath before disappearing with the Flying Thunder God technique.

He had come early to show support for Haneda, skipping breakfast in the process.

But since Haneda wasn't here and was busy making breakfast, he might as well go grab some for himself.

Fugaku and Kakashi's subordinates were dumbfounded, staring at the spot where Kakashi had vanished.

Why did he leave so suddenly after arriving?

However, they quickly shifted their focus back to the meeting, waiting silently for Haneda and the Third Hokage to arrive.

Everyone in the room understood that this Jonin meeting would decide Konoha's new direction.

At the center of the storm stood Haneda and the current Hokage, Sarutobi Hiruzen.
