Odyssey To Dominion

Chapter 49: 49. Paxius’ Curiosity

Nytri has conquered the Abyssal Sanctum, Paxius as her friend and now not needing to worry about anyone coming to eat her for breakfast. Nytri was with Paxius after the battle as she looks around, "This is the final floor? Not what I was expecting with the previous themes." She teleports to the edge of the platform as she looks at the bottom below.

Paxius looks at Nytri, "This isn't the final floor."

Nytri was surprised, "It isn't?" she turns to Paxius.

Paxius gestures to Nytri, "Follow me." Paxius starts to walk to the next floor with Nytri tagging along. They walked for while a Paxius breaks the silence, "It's a lot farther than I remember."

Nytri chuckles, "You were very big and shrunk, so distance will be different." It dawns on his, he reverts back to his 15-meter form as he puts his hands before Nytri and she jumps on. He walks to the last floor of the dungeon as it's a big room though not as big as the previous ones.

Paxius' height is barely reaching the roof as he walks deeper into the room. At the center of the room is a shrine, it has a flat base, a circle then another flat base on top. There are runes around it and it is painted white, it has a simple design. Paxius brings his hands to the ground as Nytri lands and he shrinks back to human size.

Paxius points forward, "This is the final floor, and this is the only thing here."

Nytri is curious, "What is this?"

Paxius stares at it and replies, "This is a shrine that acts as a teleportal. It was put here by the god who made this dungeon for whoever that reached the last floor to come to the divine realm and become a god."

Nytri is surprised, "Why haven't you taken it yet? You're pretty strong, what's keeping you?"

Paxius sighs, "Belief, to become a god, you need people to believe in you as one. The people must be worshipers, this dungeon has people but not worshipers. That's why I haven't been able to advance to become a god."

"Oh, I think that's a good thing." Nytri smiles.

Paxius is surprised, "Why is it that?"

Nytri chuckles, "Because if you left, we wouldn't have met." She walks to the shrine as she begins to read the runes.

Paxius watches as her words touched him, "You are a strange human."

Nytri, "Yeah, I noticed that. I think I'm a superhuman!" She strikes a pose, Paxius chuckles. He leaves Nytri as she enters a trance with her studies on the runes.

Paxius arrives at the previous floor and noticed something odd, Nytri's army has started changing the place. They are healing his guards as some started to plant the crystals they mined from the 7th floor, light starts to shine in the place with each crystal planted. They even figure out how to make the crystals, they also managed to get Paxius' guards to help with the redecoration. Paxius walks towards his throne and sits down in his giant form, "Truly, a strange human."

After a while, Paxius noticed Nytri hasn't left the room. He gets up to check on her and sees her resting at a corner of the 129th floor. Energy seems to be concentrated at that corner as they moved in and out of her body. When energy enters her body, a dimmer version of the energy leaves her body. She suddenly opened her eyes in excitement, "Yes! Level up!"

Paxius is curious, "What are you going on about."

Nytri smiles and jumps up, "I leveled up." With a pose.

Paxius looks around Nytri, there's no corpse or traces of a battle. Paxius, "How?"

Nytri giggles, "I got experience. And I did it without killing anything, the first successful level up of many more to come."

Paxius is shocked, "Without killing?! You have to kill to level up. It's been like that for as long as I can remember."

Nytri smiles, "That's where you're mistaken. You don't need to kill to level up. All you have to do is improve, grow and crystalize energy. The more you fight, the more your body learns and grows. And when it grows, spaces are made in the body that absorbs energy particles."

Paxius looks at Nytri in confusion, prompting her to explain as she continues, "When you start leveling up, your body absorbs energy particles which nourish the body, making you stronger. That's why every level up increases your strength and other stats."

Paxius exclaims, "Woah, I never thought of it like that. Then why does everyone kill to level up?"

Nytri lifts her finger and gathers energy, which crystalizes. She then explains, "This is energy particles, crystalized raw energy, and it is found in almost everything. The crystals are attracted to energy, although crystallized. If you hit a body with energy from skills or runes, it tries to pull the crystallized energy in the body but not with a noticeable force. It just makes the crystals active, so when the body dies, it pours out to the source of the energy that hit the body. And by then, the one who hit the body has undergone growth and in need of crystallized energy. So, the body's crystallized energy goes into his body, and if it makes a noticeable change, then that change is a level up. If no change is seen, then they get experience."

Paxius rubs his hair and asks, "Wait, since you can crystalize energy, does that mean you only need to grow, and then you get the crystallized energy from the environment?"

Nytri answers while beaming with a smile, "Bingo. When I grow, I absorb the crystallized energy, so I can even level up mid-fight."

Paxius speaks, "But that's cheating." It is unfair.

Nytri speaks, "There is no law that states you have to kill to level up. Violence is not always the answer."

Paxius speaks, "But scaring others out of their mind is?"

Nytri flinches and gives a wry laugh, "Ehehehehe". She then speaks, "so that's the concept of level up."

Paxius asks, "How did you come across crystallized energy?"

Nytri tilts her head and answers bluntly, "Information magic."

Paxius is surprised and asks, "Information magic can do that?"

Nytri speaks, "Information can even show you the basic construction of spells and their weak point. So, there is no need to stop the caster, but I can rewrite the spell or outright break it, and the caster suffers a backlash."

Paxius shivers and thinks to himself, "I'm glad she didn't use it on me." He then asks, "How did your information magic reach this level? For all I know, it only has appraisal."

Nytri laughs, "You are too narrow-minded. Information is only known to have appraisal because none of the monsters ever tried experimenting with it. I observed a corpse closely, and Analysis came out of it. I later analyzed air, and what I saw shocked me. I had never seen the world like that. I studied more until I reached a limit of my analysis and tried again and gained more abilities, which is just me tinkering with raw energy. And sometimes, it blew up in my face, but I gained more."

Paxius is amazed and asks, "Truly fascinating. What about evolution?"

Nytri asks, "What's evolution?" She's never heard of this concept.

Paxius explains with pride since there's something he can brag- explain also, "Evolution is when you change and become a better version of yourself. I have seen humans go through it once, so why have you not?"

Nytri speaks softly, "Maybe I am no longer human." She pauses for a moment before adding, "Or maybe it's because I eat monsters. Definitely that."

Paxius looks at Nytri with surprise, "Eat monsters? But humans don't do that!"

Nytri shrugs, "I'm not really sure what I am anymore, to be honest. But I do know that eating monsters has allowed me to absorb their abilities and become stronger."
