Chapter 12: The Masking Knight
Chapter 12: The Masking Knight
"Princess, I don't understand you. Are you trying to say I treat my children badly?" General Wang asked, his brow furrowed in confusion.
"No, General, I was just asking. I'm sorry if my question sounded bad to you," Princess Hua replied, her voice steady despite the tension in the room.
"Sorry, General, I think I should take my leave now." She pretend, as she did as if a wave of nausea wash over her, as if she were about to vomit.
"Take Princess Hua back to her room," General Wang ordered, his tone brooking no argument.
"Yes, my Lord," the maids bowed in unison.
"She is so arrogant, just because she is the princess. She got married yesterday, and now she is behaving like the lord of the mansion," Madam Feng said angrily, her eyes narrowing.
"Feng, what did you think we should do.This is why I don't want my family to be related to the emperor," General Wang replied, his voice laced with frustration. "If not for that Wang Wei, that stubborn boy..."
"Father, since Princess Hua is married into the General's family, she has to abide by the General's rules. And isn't it true that she isn't the emperor's favorite daughter? So the emperor wouldn't be concerned about how she is treated here," Haoyu suggested, his tone thoughtful.
"Hmm, Haoyu, you are really my son," General Wang said, a hint of pride in his voice.
"Your Highness, why did you ask that? You know the General is hard to deal with. Please keep your head safe from him beheading you," Chen Xui warned, a teasing smile on her face.
Princess Hua smiled back, "I knew it; living under General Wang's roof is risky."
"Why didn't Young Master Wei come over?" Chen Xui asked, curiosity piqued.
"Humph. That brat," she said angrily, her frustration bubbling to the surface.
"Princess," Chen Xui said, trying to lighten the mood.
"Who knows where he is now?" Princess Hua replied, spotting a maid passing by. "Eh, have you seen Wang Wei?" she asked.
"Young Master is in the library," the maid answered.
"Library? Where is the library?" she inquired, eager to find her husband. The maid led her there.
Princess Hua entered the library with an air of arrogance. Wang Wei quickly hid what he was sketching and pretended to read a book.
"Wang Wei, is this how you behave toward your wife? I went to serve Madam Feng and General Wang tea. You didn't bother to come. What if my head was cut off by General Wang?" she said, her voice rising in indignation. But Wang Wei remained silent, his eyes glued to the page.
"Wang Wei, why do you have to keep mute on anything I say? Is this how you behave toward a woman who you have seen her nakedness?" Princess Hua pressed, her tone a mix of annoyance and playfulness.
"Princess!" Wang Wei finally exclaimed, his face turning a shade of crimson.
Bao and Chen Xui, who had been waiting outside, exchanged amused glances.
"Hmm, how dare your master see the princess's nakedness, and still avoiding her." Chen Xui teased. Bao remained silent, mirroring Wang Wei's earlier demeanor.
"Just like your young master," Chen Xui said, chuckling.
"Princess, I need an explanation on that. Why don't you explain how you got into my bed naked?" Wang Wei asked, his voice serious yet tinged with curiosity.
"I was just joking," Princess Hua replied, a mischievous smile playing on her lips.
"Princess," Wang Wei gestured for her to leave, but she seemed oblivious to his hint.
"Princess, please leave and tell Bao to come in," Wang Wei insisted.
"You mean I should leave?" Princess Hua asked, feigning surprise. "Okay, I will leave," she added, turning to exit.
"Your young master said you should come in," she told Bao as she walked out.
The princess strolled around the General's mansion with Chen Xui, their conversation flowing easily. They overheard some maids gossiping and decided to listen in.
"Did you hear the Masking Knight saved some homeless children last night?" one maid asked the other.
"Yes, I even heard he is trying to build a house for them and give them shelter and food," the other maid replied.
"He is doing better than those ministers," another chimed in.
"Just that no one knows who he is," the first maid added.
"Really?" Princess Hua interjected, her interest piqued.
"Princess," the maids bowed as they noticed her presence and quickly left.
"Wait," Princess Hua called after them, but they didn't respond.
"Princess, are they scared of you, or is that how everybody in General Wang mansion behaves?" Chen Xui asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Hmm," the princess sighed deeply, contemplating the dynamics of her new home. "Who is this Masking Knight?" she wondered aloud. "He must be a great person. I wish to meet him one day," Chen Xui said, a smile lighting up her face.
"Are you falling in love with someone you don't know?" Princess Hua teased, her eyes sparkling with mischief.
"Princess, I know you have been falling in love with this unknown man too," Chen Xui replied, a playful grin on her lips.
"When did you know that?" Princess Hua asked, feigning surprise.
"Since the first day the news got to the palace," Chen Xui said, his tone light. "I saw your facial expression."
"Hmm, isn't that Mei's personal maid?" Princess Hua pointed out, noticing a familiar figure in the distance.
